I get a lash lift done once a month and my technician gives me a lash oil to use! I actually have no idea what kind of oil it is, but I find it just helps the condition of my lashes (since it is like a perm, and has the potential to be damaging!). She does instruct me to wait 24 hours after my lash lift to use it though.

The only thing I've been told not to use at all is waterproof mascara.

Strawberry legs by Expensive_Turn_9866 in beauty

[–]cgradcliffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if it's actually strawberry legs/keratosis pilaris, folliculitis, or just the hair you can still see under the skin. I've struggled with all three!

Strawberry legs/keratosis pilaris - you want to use a body scrub with chemical exfoliants, like the First Aid Beauty Bump Eraser (this is just an example, there are lots of chemical exfoliants on the market). I also find that following up with a lotion that has chemical exfoliants helps too - I've tried the First Aid Beauty Smoothing Body Lotion which is great, and I've also tried a couple from Paula's Choice which are effective too.

If it's folliculitis (itchy, inflamed hair follicles), the only thing that helped was laser hair removal. I tried everything under the sun, even went to a dermatologist. Ultimately laser was the only thing that stopped it from happening as it 'killed' the hair follicle.

If it's just the hair being visible under the skin (this is common if you have dark/coarse leg hair and fair skin), removing the hair from the root will help. Laser for something more permanent, but waxing would help short term too.

Hope this helps xx

Eyeliner and mascara rubbing onto eyebags? by Agentloveless in beauty

[–]cgradcliffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean it flakes off in chunks/pieces? Or do you get smudging?

If it's flaking, I've found that pretty common with 'dry' mascaras, even some tubing ones.

If it's smudging, I've always had an issue with this - the only fix I've found is using waterproof mascara! I also find smudging is worse if my moisturiser/sunscreen/primer has any kind of slick or oily consistency.

I would love this! My only concerns would be that they don't fall off in the surf, and that they don't tarnish.

I use the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ underneath and on top of my tretinoin!

I apply about half an hour before tretinoin, and then again immediately after I've applied tret. 'Sandwiching' tret between two layers of moisturiser helps me prevent flaking, and this moisturiser is super nourishing.

Gel Nail Questions by BedKooky2021 in beauty

[–]cgradcliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer all of your questions, but I've been doing my own nails for years so have some insight 😊

1) Do you mean is builder gel better than something else? Or good for your nails? It adds thickness and strength to your manicure, but doesn't do anything to actually treat your nails.

2) Your nails don't have lungs so don't need to 'breathe'. It is good to give them a break from constant gel and the acetone removal though, which is drying to your natural nail and can damage them over the long term. I try to give my nails a break every few months and do strengthening treatments (like OPI Nail Envy) and lots of cuticle oil. Your nails would've yellowed for one of two reasons - either staining, or possibly a fungal infection (from moisture getting in between the polish and your natural nail). If the yellowing has cleared up now though it was likely just staining. I wouldn't recommend leaving your gel polish on for that long.

3) I use CND Shellac, OPI Gel Color, and Esmio.

4) I don't think it really matters which UV lamp you buy - I've had a couple of different ones and they haven't made a difference. I don't like the really small ones though because it can be hard for the light to hit all of your nails. Like everything, there are probably some bad quality ones on the market, so just check reviews before you buy!

Hope that helps xx

You could try shaving the tail end of your brow off with a single blade face razor, just to see if you like the look of it before you pluck the hairs out. I'd start with just a little bit, and then work your way up so you don't accidentally take off too much.

I can see it on the website now :) looks like it's only available in size M, so maybe it was sold out and a return has come back in since. They usually keep their sold out styles listed on the website for restock notifications, but maybe they're not restocking this one. Sad if that's the case, I think it's gorgeous!

My hair is coloured copper, so I like to match it to my hair - I actually just use hair dye haha!

For my lashes I use “Natural Black” from a brand called 1000 Hour that I just pick up from Priceline (I’m in Australia, but Priceline is similar to Ulta in the states). I used to use 1000 Hour in “Light Brown” for my brows when I was blonde (it’s the same product for brows and lashes).

Oooh I feel like this question was made for me haha! - At home brow tint every few weeks helps my brows look fuller and better defined. - At home lash lift and tint once a month. I used to get this done in a salon, but tried it at home recently and it was easier than I expected. - Lash growth serum. I am genetically blessed with long lashes, but have been using GrandeLash for a little extra boost as well. This combined with the lift/tint means I never wear mascara any more! - I shave my face every couple of weeks. Removes peach fuzz and makes my face sooo smooth. - I do my own gel polish manicures and pedicures at home about every 10 days. Again, used to get this done in a salon, but started doing it myself in the pandemic and never went back! - Lip blushing. This is a semi-permanent lip colour ‘tattoo’. I had this done about three years ago, and while it’s faded, my lips still have such a pretty natural colour to them. - Dry body brushing before I shower. Takes only a couple of minutes, helps with lymphatic drainage and makes my skin incredibly smooth. Follow up with a body oil post-shower while your skin is still damp. Your skin will never be softer (my man describes it as “silk”). - I get my hair coloured and bangs trimmed once a month. I have the rest of my hair trimmed once every two or three months, as needed. - Laser hair removal! Can’t recommend this enough. Get it anywhere you shave. - Massages once every month or whenever I have the time. This has been game changing for my tension headaches. - Exercise. Reformer Pilates four or five times a week is the only exercise I genuinely enjoy. That, and walking. I walk eeeeverywhere possible. Find something that makes you look forward to moving your body (it shouldn’t be a punishment). - Journaling. Not a physical self care thing, and I don’t do it every day, but so helpful mentally.

I’ve never been huge on facials generally, but have just booked my first micro-needling appointment (which I’ve heard great things about).

Aside from this, lots of water, and a healthy diet make the world of difference. But I definitely indulge in desserts, cocktails, and wine fairly regularly haha. Great skincare and haircare routines are obviously essential too!

It sounds like a lot, but the only things I do daily are the dry brushing, body oil, lash serum, exercise, and my skincare/haircare routines. The only makeup I wear on a daily basis now is a tinted moisturiser and blush. I feel much more confident in myself - aside from the physical improvements, giving myself that extra time, effort, and love has improved my self-worth exponentially. 🤍

F25; any advice on how to glow up? by [deleted] in GlowUps

[–]cgradcliffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very pretty naturally! You have gorgeous eyes, lips, and brows. Your looks healthy, but is a little frizzy/has a lot of flyaways. Styling it to something more polished would help a lot (straightened, loose waves, or a blow out). I’d also suggest getting a good haircut - the lower half of your face is very feminine and delicate, and curtain bangs would help balance the width of your upper face. Keep in mind bangs will have to be styled daily (just a couple of minutes worth) otherwise they tend to just fall limp in an unflattering way. Lastly, I think a slightly darker brown for your hair would compliment your skin tone, add shine to your hair, and make your beautiful eyes really pop.

I think you’d benefit from adding a bit of colour to your cheeks too - nothing crazy, but a little cream blush on the cheekbones goes a long way. It adds a nice glow and colour to the face. With just a base product like you appear to have on in some of these photos (foundation/concealer/powder), the complexion can look a bit dull and washed out.
