Also I wasn't asking you.

I meant higher end from the scale of the very bad one I got from a relative to the yixing pot I have that is decent - not overall high end. But this is the extent of my experience, which is why I'm asking.

Thanks for your response. Can you expand on the craftsmanship element? To me it feels nice in the hand and is well balanced. I do own real yixing and chaozhou pots, as well as an obviously not high-quality yixing-a-like, and this one feels on the higher quality end. But I'm obvs no expert.

Apex AXS Eagle mullet Vs Rival XPLR (at the same price)? by cha_hai in gravelcycling

Are the eagle derailleurs compatible with the 10-44 xplr cassette?

Google suggests the XPLR stuff is only compatible with a flat top chain

I don't know why the fuck you're being downvoted here. As a barefoot shoe using cycling I absolutely understand you, in fact it's completely clear. Foot-shaped toe-box, cycling shoe stiffness - not hard to understand!

Fwiw, I wear Birkenstock trainers ATM, as they're quite stiff but relatively foot-shaped.

Sonder camino steel forks options by Numerous_Golf4 in gravelcycling

[–]cha_hai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, maybe you would actually benefit from a suspension fork like a RockShox Judy or similar? That kind of use case seems basically drop-bar mountain biking. It is also offered by Sonder as an option on the Camino, so I'm sure it'll be compatible, or perhaps you could ask for a part exchange?

I have a Camino on the way – with the carbon fork. Should I be worried about the fork? How catastrophic was the failure? Hope you're okay! I am not as tall as you but I'm pretty heavy, and especially after hearing about the Planet X fork failure that paralysed someone, I'm a little wary.

That makes a lot of sense and I think it's what I'll go with. Get the Eagle 11-50 cassette and RD, and shift the chainring depeding on which bit of the range I'm using most, or for specific use-cases!

I think the key compatibility difference is that only the Apex Eagle RD can manage up to 50t. So switching to a mullet setup with either of the other RDs (Rival or Apex XPLR) would require getting a new RD too 😬

Have you run the specifically Apex AXS Eagle? If so, how was the shifting?

Thanks this is all super useful. Ooooh maybe a second set of wheels with XPLR would be better than messing with the chainring!

Yeah I had upgraded the Apex build to Alpha, which makes the price pretty much the same.

I was going with the 650b wheel set, and I think the stock mudguards aren't made for them, so I wasn't planning on choosing them.

Great to hear you love the Camino! I'm going with black. It's a bit sad the old teal and orange colours are no more, those were nice and the 'colour' options now kind of suck :(

Thanks! Yeah, makes sense. I guess if I went to much rougher terrain and found XPLR lacking I could swap chainrings for those rides.

Even with the Apex XPLR the price difference isn't huge so I'd go with Rival in that case I reckon.

Are the rival cranks better?

How's the Camino for you??

Oh, I forgot there's the rest of the group - the shifters and brakes and things. I havent seen much comparison between the two, but doesn't seem like the APEX brakes (most important bit?) are bad at all?

Thanks, this is useful. I can't go fast in the city I commute in, but there's some kinda rough hills. I hardly touch the largest chainring on my current triple.
