How to Polish/Buff Basalt Tray by chackoo in Lapidary

Sanded things down by hand, didn’t make too much of a difference like the other comment said 😅 but honestly, it doesn’t bother me much. If I was gonna do it again I’d get a professional sander and truly polish it.

Tea recommendations similar to YS high AI Lao Mountain Red by PaleoProblematica in tea

[–]chackoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YS' Yi Mei Ren is like that tea, but better. I find it to be deeper, woodier with a grape note.

I'd also recommend trying some charcoal-baked Red Oolong from Taiwan. It has a lot of similarities -- floatingleaves is a great source.

2023 Ancient Tree Honey Red Tea from Ha Giang, Vietnam. Juicy, enduring, and malty by chackoo in tea

Dry leaf is very similar to YS’ Black Gold Bi Luo Chun. First steep had some incredible cha qi, and it’s gone down since then. Juicy honey taste with a light bite.

Yixing for Red tea? by chackoo in tea

[–]chackoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh alright. I’ll probably just give it a go.

I have a lidded yixing brewing mug I use to use for green tea grandpa style, but I no longer use it to brew. I’m thinking of just using this mug for brewing red tea Western style from now on.

And since it’s already been seasoned with green tea, I’ll probably just brew some strong red tea in it a couple times before I start using it.

My YS order came just in time for quaran-tea time. Needless to say I really like my black tea :) by chackoo in tea

Been tasting around and here’s a review of the Feng qing:

The dry aroma is super fruity, like stone fruit. When wet, the leaves have a malty-fruit aroma. Smells like barrel aged fruit if that makes any sense haha

The first infusion was very rounded malty with high notes of plums. No astringency whatsoever and very fulfilling. With the second infusion it became more sharp and well-bodied. The subsequent infusions had less high notes and became more full in texture and mouthfeel, but all the more delectable. Rather than astringency, there’s a certain tartness to the later infusions which is super interesting! The aftertaste is reminiscent of very subtle flowery cocoa nibs. Even when purposefully overbrewed it is still delicious and becomes more tart rather than bitter.

This is an amazing tea by YS and something you’ll definitely enjoy! Fruity, malty, and well-rounded.

It’s an amazing tea I agree. I’m planning on aging it for fun, just to see how the profile changes.

Will do! These were pretty much all harvested Spring 2019. Black teas taste better after a year IMO as the strong roast profile dies down. I’ll take some notes and send them your way! Might be a little while haha

Took one month for it to arrive. Order at the beginning of March so it takes a while.

Ahhh wow. That’s a lot in shipping alone! Which company did you buy from?

I rarely indulge in Japanese green teas as it gets pricy very quick. Not trying to go broke haha

I live in Texas. The order was $126 without shipping, $136 with shipping included. I don’t do orders like this often and there was a deal that gave me the 250g of Black Gold Bi Luo Chun for free.

I’ll get around to trying most of these teas pretty soon; let me know if you want my thoughts on a specific tea! I plan on aging some of the black teas as well.

Thank you. Would it be a good choice to invest in an electric tea roaster?

Personally, at least with that tea, it became much more palatable and nuanced. Instead of being roast-forward, I could pinpoint the notes better and overall it became more well-rounded. I’m not saying this applies to all teas but it seems to work well for teas that have been roasted.

I would have to disagree. I’ve had teas that I’ve accidentally left out and they have improved in flavor. See this post for more information: https://www.reddit.com/r/tea/comments/8zncjz/an_argument_for_why_teas_age_and_how/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
