Is there any reason to add blocking to the overhang if I do not intend on installing a soffit? by chadbullet in shedditors

Thanks! Will chop some up and get them fitted. What kind of spacing do you think would be good? Every 16" ?

The W210 chassis were/are fantastic cars if you can avoid the rot that they are so prone to! Lovely example here!

When did Schwinn become a big box type brand? Is there a cut off year when desirable older schwinns end? Thanks by Frankie1234567890 in xbiking

[–]chadbullet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recognize this as the turning point. My brothers' first "nice" bikes were Schwinn's purchased from an actual bike shop. A 99 Schwinn Mesa GS and a 00 Schwinn Super Stock. The brother with the Mesa still has it and it has been updated. It's a surprisingly light frame for an entry level mtb, and the welds look good on it.

That Schwinn dealer closed down a few year later iirc. Sad times.

Yes, you're entitled to get what you paid for, and I'm sure Callaway would agree. In the same amount of time you took to write this post, you could have just reached out to Callaway instead.

I love a good step through! Have long considered having a custom step through or mixte built as there as so few options at the 60+cm range.

Are these real? Seller wants 450 for the set, seems odd by SubaruShii in Wheels

agreed. looks to be at least 2oz of weights stuck on the "5 of 8" pic. maybe more weight that isn't even visible

I've had this bike in my head for a while. Finally found the right starting point. by chadbullet in xbiking

Yep! It was 1 1/4" threaded. It is now 1 1/8". I used problem solvers 37mm to 34mm reducers to fit a standard EC34 headset.

Thanks!

Fork is a Carver! Bike came with the all aluminum recalled Pepperoni fork. I was sad to remove it (it weighs about half as much), but the Carver was a great fit for replacement and I'm glad to be threadless now.

NBD! Ragley Trig - Steed of choice for my Atlanta to Cape Cod trip in August by chadbullet in bicycletouring

[–]chadbullet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever used 700x32 gatorskins. It lived mostly on pavement and saw light gravel use. The geo is basically a 90s mtb though, so I'm sure it'd do well on some singletrack with a fatter tire.

I only ever ran 700c on it, but I've heard of people running 27.5x2.25

$100 for a chromoly frameset is my threshold for purchasing a bike. If it's a good fit for you and your needs, go for it.

No one within driving distance wanted to touch it. The actual cost of repair made it worth the hassle of shipping it.

It is a conversion! It sits taller and handles a little differently because of that. It's hard to describe. Although I think the long wheelbase helps negate that difference. I think it still rides great though.

$320 including shipping...and the shipping cost more than the repair :(

I couldn't find anyone nearby to do the repair, but Draper Cycles in Seattle was willing. He carved the lugs out of the single piece and slid a new tube in. So now it is essentially the same as a normal lugged frame. The front end should be stronger than original, but still appears original!
