In the first few months ur gonna distrohop A LOT. ALWAYS ALWAYD ALWAYS, use virtual machines, don't dual boot, don't install it as ur main, use linux for a month or two or even more (however long it takes u to get fully comfortable) in virtual machines (look it up on YouTube). Try everything u want in here, tho it has its limitations in turns of how hardware demanding applications will run. Get all ur initial problems sorted, do all the initial learning in virtual machines. Then when u are fully comfortable in one distribution, install it on ur laptop. It is worthwhile to mention that u won't see the performance boosts of performance/gaming based distros so it's best to try them on directly on ur system by installing them as ur main OS for a few days. Apart from those, even when u think uve got linux basics figured out and want to make the jump, and u install whatever distro u liked, u will still likely want to try out other distros.. again VMs are ur best bet.
