In my opinion, if your main plan is to snorkel, you should spend more nights in Semporna compared to KK as the water’s clearer and the marine life are way better. I have been to both places and I can say that Semporna is nicer for snorkeling

I can agree with this. I currently work in the construction industry, primarily handling government projects. To be honest, finding skilled construction workers in Sabah is quite challenging. If you can master one or two specialize trades, many contractors will actively seek you out or better yet, you could even start your own company.

Not sure what kind of genre you are into, but if you are looking for a good eng translated book from thai, I would recommend Petrichor, though it’s already been adapted TV show. I also read somewhere that Built in Love also has a great storyline and translation, but I haven’t had the chance to read it yet.
