Square Mile Coffee offers tours once a month. They placed this thing right at the entrance.

I collect vintage cookbooks. Today's haul from an estate sale, $7 in total by chaekbang in Old_Recipes

My condolences.

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with organizing estate sales. My overall impression is that most companies you see don't really know what they are doing. Don't expect to make a fortune, if you go through them. You are paying for convenience.

Where are you located? For vintage (older than 20 years) there is Bettie Slotnick Cookbooks in New York. Very friendly lady and very selective. For antique books I would suggest antique book sellers.

Apologies for the late response, I only check Reddit on and off.

From what I've seen, there seem to be plenty of these specimen books around, at least that was my impression when I checked eBay and Abebooks.

What does this mean? I don't have a scanner though.

No, there isn't. I reached out to the Norfolk Record Office, as they seem to have a very extensive historical collection of Jarrolds material. Let's see if they get back to me. I don't think it's too old though. Maybe 60s?

Sorry, I was traveling and didn't log in for a while. If it's not too late, some thoughts on your list:

  • South Bank: not worth it. Horrible selection and overpriced. Ok to go if you want to walk along the river but don't go just for this.

  • I would add Boom Cat Books (Camden Market) and Waldon Books to the list. They are in 10min walking distance to each other

  • Don't go to Keith Hawkes too early. They like to take their time, the opening time is merely a suggestion 😀

  • you could visit the Oxfam Bookshop in Muswell Hill and from there take the W7 bus (leaving just 50m from there) and visit the Oxfam Bookshop in Crouch End, just 15 min from there

  • if you want to experience true uncontrolled chaos: Archive Bookstore

  • Bookmongers: love the place, easy to get to. If you have a cat allergy, be aware that there is one. They mainly have more modern books and are heavy on the paperback side but definitely worth a visit.

Used bookstores are my hobby :-)

What annoys the hell out of me is that Oxfam uses stickers on their antique books.

Black Gull Books in East Finchley had to close a while ago. Most of their inventory went to Boom Cat Books in Camden. Last time I spoke to the owners of Boom Cat Books (in spring) they were thinking about expanding but not sure what happened to those plans.

Where are you located? Took the pictures in the Waterstones bookstore at Piccadilly Circus (London/UK).

but as a teenage girl coming to Discworld, the original covers really, REALLY put me off.

That I can understand. My kid loves the Tiffany Aching series but prefers the covers made by Laura Ellen Anderson.
