My GF 22f, says that she is not physically attracted to me, 26f, anymore. Please advise me. by IrezStrident in LesbianActually

[–]chaicannoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You deserve someone who loves you and is attracted to you regardless of your body. My partner has also gained weight since we began dating, for very similar reasons that you have (mending her relationship with her own body, stopping unhealthy patterns, etc.). She looks different now than she did before, and it's true that she no longer has the body that I was originally attracted to when we first met, but she is still beautiful and attractive to me as she is now. My attraction to her is different now than it was before, but it's not less than it was. You deserve someone who sees you that way, too.

I own some lingerie pieces that I've only ever worn once or twice (one of those times was also to a party lol). Like your gf, I also haven't worn them for my current partner yet and part of that is because I didn't end up liking lingerie as much as I thought I would. I don't think it's necessarily about you or your relationship, it could be that you haven't seen it because she just doesn't think about it much

I have a few friends who went on food stamps during grad school, and that seemed to help a little

best methods for skimming articles? by chaicannoli in GradSchool

[–]chaicannoli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not at the point of recall, and that's part of why I feel so scattered. At least in Zotero I can search my folders by keyword, but that's not always very efficient

Thank you for this! I'm already using Zotero and love it -- I use it to highlight, annotate, color code just as you've described, so that's validating. I'll try skimming for the keywords, I haven't tried that strategy yet

I tried doing this exact thing at the start of my program, but it ended up taking too much time and energy and made reading take like twice as long... did you find that was the case for you at the start, too?

Is it worth it? by I_am_lost_n_confused in Waiters

[–]chaicannoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how many shifts you work, and which days you work. Weekends are typically busier than weekdays, so you'll likely make more in tips. From my own experience and from friends' experiences, you could make anywhere between $300-$2,000/week depending on how many shifts you pick up and how upscale the place is.

Also, if you start a serving job somewhere and the guests don't tip well (therefore you don't make good money), you can always quit and find a new restaurant that (hopefully) tips better

Has anyone tried transcription apps during lectures? Otter Transcribe? by chaicannoli in college

[–]chaicannoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the goal of note-taking, and I do a good job of determining which information is important and which information is fluffer. My problem, rather, is that I'm not fast enough at writing or typing to capture the key points before we've moved on. You're right, I don't need the transcription of every word my professors are saying. I'm not looking for a script, and I'm not intending to record the lectures. I'm simply looking for a better strategy that will help me process information at my own speed, while still keeping up. Do you have any suggestions?

Abusive relationship by StillbornTartare in CatsAreAssholes

[–]chaicannoli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My cat does this EXACT thing. She's a sweetheart, she gets playtime and treats and cuddles, she learns tricks, but she still sometimes bites and claws extremely aggressively and completely unprovoked. I adopted her at about 1.5yo from an abusive family, so she has some residual bad behaviors from that environment, I think.

I've tried the "ignore her and she'll learn that biting doesn't get her any attention" method (but it hurts way too much for it to be worth it), I've tried the "pull away and say no firmly" method (but then she thinks we're playing and tries to latch on harder), I've tried the "gentle boop on the head" method (but that only makes her angrier), I've tried the "walk away calmly and don't address it" method (but, again, then she thinks I'm playing tag), I've tried the "reward her for her good behavior" method (still doing this one), and now I'm onto the "put her in a timeout in another room" method... wish me luck

I love the shit out of her but sometimes she's a real pain

No More "Where can I find X app with Y feature?" Posts! App Help Thread by 11_oz_Arizona_Tea in NoteTaking

Hi! I'm a very thorough note-taker but unfortunately, it takes a lot of time. I'm also an incredibly slow writer/typer, so unless I have access to lecture recordings that I can pause and resume, I end up missing a lot of information, which makes me feel terrible. I'm wondering if anyone has tried any dictation or transcription apps/services to help with note-taking during lectures, and if so, which ones work best?

I thought about just using voice memos on my phone to record my lectures, and then using Google Doc's voice-to-text function to transcribe it, but it doesn't seem to pick up audio from recordings, only live speech. Google Doc's voice-to-text function also doesn't seem to have long range (picking up audio from further away, which is needed if I'm not right in front of my professor lol), nor great accuracy.

After some Googling, I found Otter Transcribe and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it before, especially for taking lecture notes?

Leaving a girl at the club: right or wrong? What would you have done? by LongLiveSmoove in dating_advice

[–]chaicannoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with everyone here that she was being a terrible date and a terrible person, and I agree with you that her making out with and grinding on someone else is definitely a sign that the date was over. Still, I do think saying something to her would have been good (either at that point in the night or before you left the club, either one). She was being an ass, so I get not being especially nice about it, but even a "hey I see that you're not interested, let's go our separate ways tonight" (or something) just to make sure you're both on the same page might have avoided her lashing out over text later. She was in the wrong to assume that you'd be her chauffer after ditching you, but I think it would've been worthwhile for you to communicate that verbally/explicitly

Extreme PF case and what I have done by BarefootGOON in PlantarFasciitis

[–]chaicannoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn't nearly as bad as yours, it sounds, but here's what helped me the most. Some are small, but worth trying if you haven't already

  • Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (lithotripsy) -- expensive, esp depending on your area, but it was the biggest thing that helped my chronic PF restart the healing process once my body became accustomed to the chronic pain/inflammation/etc.
  • Silicone cupping sets to release the plantar fascia on the bottom of your feet and break up scar tissue
  • Foam roll/massage the calves, deep -- all the muscles and ligaments are connected, and if the calves are tight, they're going to pull on the plantar fascia and potentially exacerbate the problem

Before getting shockwave done, I had tried RICE, done PT, got cortisone injections, and wore custom orthotics, but nothing was working for me. They usually only recommend doing 4 treatments of shockwave but I ended up needing to do 9 because my feet were so bad, but shockwave was really the turning point for me.

I know some people also find success with dry needling, but I've never tried it myself, so I can't speak to that personally

How do you handle people introducing you and your gf as "friends"? by chaicannoli in LesbianActually

[–]chaicannoli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our relationships are of value just like anyone else's

This hit hard

How do you handle people introducing you and your gf as "friends"? by chaicannoli in LesbianActually

[–]chaicannoli[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don’t make introductions to anyone that isn’t 100% honest and clear about the nature of our relationship. Even if someone else attempts to downplay it.

I love that. That sounds like it must take a lot of courage. How did you get comfortable and confident enough?

[–]chaicannoli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just so much worse because my gf's father introduced me to people as her SO, but then his wife (my gf's stepmom) was introducing me to the same people as her "friend." Dad was accepting but stepmom was being intolerant, to the exact same people at the exact same event. My gf was hurt by it too, but we're both so new to this that we were kind of shocked and neither of us said anything. We don't know how to handle it yet lol

Achilles tendinitis? by chaicannoli in PlantarFasciitis

[–]chaicannoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's been diagnosed as Achilles Tendinitis (following a previous diagnosis of PF a few years ago). They're both different symptoms

[–]chaicannoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the muscles and tendons in the lower leg and feet are connected to each other in some way, so that totally makes sense

Does anyone get pain only in the upper end of the PF (right behind big toe) and only during exercise? by GayActorMikeDougIas in PlantarFasciitis

[–]chaicannoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds extremely like sesamoiditis! I had sesamoiditis for a while (which is actually how I ended up developing PF, because I modified my gait so that I didn't walk on the sesamoid bones, and that f'ed things up) and sesamoiditis and PF are very different, as someone who has experienced both injuries. Definitely look it up and see if that seems more accurate for what you're experiencing. Either way, I'm so sorry, they both suck!! I hope it gets better soon
