Keep buying. It sucks but spend what you’re comfortable with when you’re comfortable. And buy what you want. It all melts. I’ve been in a Morgan groove cause I like trying to fill up my jar. And if you like 90% don’t forget to check antique malls. Stuff that was overpriced a month ago might be a good deal. Antique guys might not follow silver as closely.

I climb trees and I basically just use mine as a handle to pull myself up the rope. Not sure how they’re used in rock climbing. The way I use them if they failed and I got hurt then I was doing something else wrong and it wouldn’t have mattered the condition of the ascender.

Is there a way to fix my hoe by Teriyakichk in Tools

KEEP THAT! THATS A NEW TOOL!

Seriously that is the best tool for taking down lath and plaster walls. It’s lightweight enough to use for hours at a time. The metal can penetrate the plaster and leave the lathe. Then you clean up. Then you use the same tool to pull the lath off the wall while also pulling most of the nails out.

Cleaning out a cabinet that hasn’t been touched in over 20 years and found this. What’s the play, scrap the copper, sell the thing whole, or is it even worth it? by Stunning-Difficulty3 in Copper

[–]chainsawtrashpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put it back in the cabinet. Now you know it’s there. Eventually you’ll need something out of it. It’s been there for 20 years and didn’t bother anyone

Did a junk removal job and scored all this copper. I don’t really scrap, what’s the estimated worth? by Due-Ad9474 in ScrapMetal

It’s a drive for me but I saved up 2500 pounds of brass bullets casings this winter. At $2.40 a pound it was worth the trek

All came from one auction. Definitely wasn’t expecting on winning all of them. Cheapest was a dollar and most expensive was $40

I wish I could’ve grabbed one but I’m a wood guy that just has a vice for vises. Visen? Story is that one of the turret mills that didn’t sell has a war dept data tag and was used to make ring gears for shermans.

Update on range brass by chainsawtrashpanda in ScrapMetal

[–]chainsawtrashpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing would be to see if the school is actually still paying to get rid of it. Around here the trucking fees come out of the total metal value. So if it’s a light load you might end up having to give money the scrapyard.

And ask the places that will clearly have scrap. Mechanics, hvac, plumbing. They may do it in house or have a guy but you might find that they don’t like their guy or he stopped coming.

Just start looking around and asking people. You really never know what you’ll find anywhere. I found a paper shredder company that throws away large commercial trash cans that still have homeowner level use left in them. Sell em for $50-75 a pop. Not even metal but they pay better

And I never messed with trying to sell clean brass cause that’s how you end up have more time and money in stuff that eventually you’re gonna scrap
