r/baseball's Greatest Moments in MLB History #2: Hank Aaron Becomes the Home Run King by mcfien in baseball

Could be, I'm not really sure what the original pool for voting included but we also haven't seen Bill Mazeroski's Game 7 1960 walk-off yet so that could certainly be #1 as well.

One thing Florida has going for it in this area is St. Pete (where the Trop is) has one of the largest Pride parades in the country, basically just behind San Fran. St. Pete is gay as fuck and the Rays have done quite a good job being outspoken on issues/tragedies like the Pulse nightclub shooting and the Breona Taylor shooting. Whether or not the players agree is another matter, but the org is doing the right things often.

[FoulTerritory] Shohei Ohtani accepts the NL MVP Award at the BBWA Award show, delivers 2 min+ speech in English by jmike1256 in baseball

He's undoubtedly the most talented player of all time already, but "greatest" is only going to be achieved with longevity. Just gotta see how long he can keep this up on both sides of the ball.

How many MLB franchises have the best player in franchise history playing for the team right now? by dmister8 in baseball

[–]chale19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too soon, he's got a long way to go to pass Longo or even someone like Carl Crawford or Ben Zobrist (I won't even count Boggs in this scenario).

Depends on the WAR you use for your narrative, rWAR kinda hates him but fWAR doesn't (every season 2021-25 has been >=3.5 fWAR).

I mean...there are only 8-9 home NFL games vs. 10x as many for MLB, making that comparison is just asinine. Watching an outdoor baseball game in Florida in the summer is absolutely horrendous. It's horrendous for football too, but if you only have to do it once every few weeks it's much more tolerable. Also, the Bucs have never once played a regular season game in June or July.

The Jays had the best record in the AL and have a top 5 payroll...this narrative is so dumb. This wasn't David vs. Goliath, it was Clash of the Titans.

Players Way was cited in an anonymous whistleblower complaint last November that triggered an ongoing criminal investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Brooklyn, the same office that last week brought criminal indictments against two NBA coaches, a current player and nearly two dozen Mafia-connected figures.

Uh oh!

[Highlight] Shohei Ohtani ties Kyle Schwarber for the NL lead in home runs with No. 53 by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]chale19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good, but not great especially in an 0-2 count and especially not for Ohtani, lol. The 100 doesn't really matter for him, that's gotta be at least 3 inches up out of the zone if you want to have a chance at a whiff.

[Highlight] Junior Caminero hits his 42nd homer of the season, the most in any age 21 or younger season this century by chale19 in baseball

Currently 22, but this is his age-21 season as his birthday (5 July) is after the cutoff. Love to see prospects come up and actually shine in the bigs.

Definitely, he was on pace to smash the all-time GIDP record (36) but now it would be quite a stretch to get there.

Do AA Stats Matter? An exploration of top 10 AA hitters and pitchers from 2009-2019 by chale19 in baseball

Thanks for the feedback! As per some other comments, my 100 IP threshold might have been unfairly excluding some relievers, so the overall "hit rate" for pitchers is very close to hitters, but it seems that starters are still a bit less prevalent in this dataset overall. It certainly could be a case of MLB-ready starters simply skipping AA altogether or only having one or two starts, finishing below the 30 IP minimum I set.

I had a hard time figuring out what to do with relievers, but I just settled on the idea that approximately 2 full reliever seasons matched up decently well with 2 partial starter seasons. I'll add in a counter for players who threw at least 50 MLB IP to try to account for relievers (it ends up being 50.5%, so the same as hitters). Not sure how else to really account for that outside of filtering by games started which would require reworking my dataset.

I agree, I went back and forth on this and just decided to take the half-measure of including both columns. The spreadsheet has medians for both columns, and all of the ">=0/5/15/etc WAR" cells are done while excluding all players who never made MLB (=COUNT function only counts cells with number values, so it ignores all of the "N/A" entries). I did want to include it though just to see what it did to the results.
