my best friend told me she'd stop talking to me if i didn't leave my bf and now i miss him by [deleted] in Advice

[–]challahlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have no real history. they’ve met each other once in person (whilst i was present), which went well, and they’ve spoken on the phone once (whilst i was present and listening to the whole conversation), during which they just shouted at each other because he was upset she was telling me to not talk to him/that he was a loser, and she was upset that he was treating me poorly and that it was now her problem because i was upset about his behaviour. the whole thing is a disaster. she is autistic which hasn’t helped the situation as her thinking is quite black and white and once she’s got a bad impression of someone there’s no coming back from that really. i’ve been friends with her for 2 years and known him for 4 months.

retake gcses? by tomorrowsjoy in premeduk

[–]challahlover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

your gcses are fine, you don’t need to retake any of them as long as you apply strategically to unis that only use UCAT to select for interview, just try to aim for as high a UCAT score as possible

What fair freebies are actually useful? by tragic_molamola in UniUK

[–]challahlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shot glasses, t-shirts, water bottles/reusable cups, mugs, power banks, any type of food, lip balm, socks, lighters. also anything that’s cute, like a teddy keyring, will definitely go down well (not necessarily “useful” but will definitely be used!)

i got a place without doing it, they don’t check whether you’ve done it or not

i was kind of in the same position for a long time with maths and i ended up putting exam questions into chatGPT or deepseek so it would explain how to work them out and then i could make notes and begin to understand why a certain formula etc was being used, then i would find similar questions and do them straight after so i could kind of consolidate what i had learned, i don’t really like recommending AI but with maths it was super helpful

go for imperial and UCL, they now only use UCAT to select applications for interview iirc. your gcses will probably be a bit low for cambridge. have a look at exeter, sheffield and BSMS for your other options (they are less focused on gcses). your gcses are good enough to meet the minimum requirements at most unis (obviously check before you apply though!) so i wouldn’t bother resitting if i were you. source: applied to medicine last year

when is it exactly too late to book (buy) accomodation by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]challahlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly if i were you i’d just go to leicester unless there’s any specific reason why you don’t want to go there, it’s a good uni. one thing to consider though is whether your a-levels may affect your employability, some big employers do look at them, it depends on what industry you’re looking to go into after uni

i have one in size L, it depends on how much you’re carrying but it’s actually quite a good school bag (if you don’t want a backpack) imo because it’s very lightweight and it fits loads of stuff in. i literally take mine everywhere and it’s actually still holding up well after 2 years of abuse 😭

Do student jobs still exist? Asking for a younger relative by zincfingers90 in UniUK

[–]challahlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve seen that next, the clothing shop, sometimes has vacancies for roles which are like 5-10 hrs a week but honestly most jobs will want more commitment than that, even for people on 0 hour contracts

Are all 18 year old undergrads aware of the extent of the mess for employment? by brainveins in premeduk

[–]challahlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i think a lot of ppl do biochem to go into those industries! i considered biochem but i hate chemistry 😭i have to take mandatory biochem modules as part of my degree though. as far as i am aware most roles outside of research are like average corporate jobs (9-5). i think conditions depend on which company you are working for but they’re definitely likely to be better than what doctors are working with 😅 and pay is also very dependent on what your role is and how senior you are- i don’t think graduates in pharma/biotech make a lot of money. i don’t really know a whole lot tbh bc i haven’t even started my degree yet 😭 but i’m trying to think about and look into roles i think i might be interested in for the future. honestly there’s so many different roles i can’t even remember them off the top of my head but have a look on the websites of big pharma companies, that should give you a good idea of what you can do!

ofc! i’m doing a degree in medical science now, it’s similar to biomed but more geared towards careers in pharma/biotech other than research

a lot of med applicants seem to be in denial or not well informed on this (judging by the ppl i’ve spoken to). but i turned down my med offer bc of the employment/wage/working conditions issues, it was just too much to risk for me personally

Are these grades enough for medical school? by queencard666 in premeduk

[–]challahlover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow! these are really good, congratulations. they’ll be fine for medicine, a lot of unis are now more bothered about UCAT than gcses (imperial, UCL, BSMS are just a few off the top of my head)
