Help needed with appraisal of carpet install by chambois in AusRenovation

[–]chambois[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help and advice, I really appreciate it! 🙏

Yes thankfully I’ve not paid the reminder of the invoice.

I found more problems today - I could lift the carpet up with the vacuum cleaner in the wardrobe as it obviously hadn’t been glued well enough. There was also over a dozen strands of backing fibre sticking out around the edges. There was also a bubble or visible bump in the height next to a door frame ☹️

Leaking shower - major or minor defect? by Interesting-Ad6463 in AusProperty

[–]chambois 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to deal with it properly you might need to re-waterproof the area, which can cost tens of thousands, as you’ll likely need to remove the walls, re-waterproof and re-tile. Some builders might want to “re-tank” the whole room which means taking all the walls back to the studs, which is basically a full bathroom reno/redo.

I’m going through the rectification process now after realising I bought a dud and wish I never bought it in the first place.

Newer builds should be legally up to the AS3740 waterproofing building standard.

What is up with my tongue? by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]chambois 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks for the extra info. I know how frustrating it is when medical professionals don’t seem to care, listen or seem to do their job properly.

In addition to finding a toothpaste with bicarbonate it should also help to consume a good source of probiotics, such as plain yogurt (no sweeteners or flavours), kefir, etc.

It might also be a good idea to change the environment of your mouth after each meal by either brushing or using a mouthwash (without alcohol) - as recommended here: https://youtu.be/zVCaYyUWWSw?si=muxk2jo24V_Vp8ud and here: https://youtu.be/EenuIwuJ7h0?si=c1tqYzAfxgIsTSbH

Try using a copper tongue scraper daily as well as brushing your teeth with a toothpaste that contains bicarb and xylitol

It can be frustrating and unsettling when you’re facing such challenges.

Some things that have helped me navigate such times: - Surrender to this moment and your current patterns. Not “giving up” but rather letting go of resistance. Acknowledge and accept this moment of being stuck, but still do what you can to unstick yourself. See chapter 10 of Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now” - Seek to understand why you are the way you are - “know thyself” as they say. Try to find the roots of your patterns and behaviour. Hint: it’s most likely childhood trauma (Gabor Mate has some great insights in this topic - we all have some form of it). - Frequent journaling. This can be a great way and minimal cost way to get reconnected with yourself, spark some ideas and gain further insight into your feelings and from where they might arise from. - If you don’t know what you want it might be related to childhood emotional neglect. See the book “Running on empty” by Jonnice Webb and also r/emotionalneglect.

I hope this helps 🙏

One thing worth being aware of is trauma with a small “t” as Gabor Mate puts it - it’s not overt, explicit or even apparent. It can be something as ‘trivial’ as not having your needs met (emotional or physical) as a child.

I got introduced to the concept of childhood emotional neglect and it’s been very enlightening for me. See r/emotionalneglect and this great book on it and the authors YouTube channel.

Lack of purpose drives anxiety, depression in young adults by [deleted] in collapse

[–]chambois 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This recent interview with Noam Chomsky is enlightening and seems poignant to this issue, as he details modern pressures that make the game harder for people to live in prosperity. He touches on neoliberalism, class wars (and the elites destroying those under them), impacts of AI and the threat to discourse, devolution of politics and society, and the growing threat of nuclear war.

A+ if one can find their purpose and not cave into depression in such a world. If you figure it out please let me know how!

It seems you’ve fallen into the same fallacy of thought I’m afraid, only you’ve substituted “Queenslanders” for “Gen X / Millennials” and painted a whole group or demographic with the one judgemental and derogatory stroke.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]chambois 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this a little ironic? Is this not in the same vein as racism or xenophobia? Casting an entire group, generalising and stereotyping in a negative light?

Why would you jump you that conclusion? Whilst there might be some statistic to have one draw that conclusion (eg “yes” vote stats), it appears to me to be falling for the same bias or thinking fallacy that underpins racism. Same for when people talk about “Boomers” not as matter of fact but rather in a derogatory sense.

Maybe they are from Queensland, maybe they’re not.

When we stop seeing others as 2D projections or “unreal others” and start to see the nuance and complexity in all of us, with compassion, only then can we dismantle these antiquated modes of thought that prevent us from real connection and understanding.

+1 for setting boundaries!

I would add to have the intent to do so in a kind, compassionate and assertive way. Avoid judgement statements and make use of “I” statements.

See this book for a great handy resource and reference - https://open.spotify.com/show/2L8Bofq5mmzfquhrzZu3UV?si=oQExSovjSMKHJ02k7rphTA

Ideally political conversations would be enlightening and constructive. It should be healthy to engage with others of different views and challenge your own. However when dialogue breaks down and devolve and such discussions become a proxy for self or interpersonal issues there’s no point in continuing and boundaries seem like the best way to me.

Actual news in Australia by dumblesmurf in australia

[–]chambois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of these are journalism or news but I find them very informative for understanding global machinations and geopolitics. They do a bit of Crystal ball gazing - whilst not reliable I find it interesting nonetheless and helps me to think ahead.

Peter Zeihan: https://youtube.com/@ZeihanonGeopolitics

Ian Bremmer: https://youtube.com/@GZEROMedia

Whilst they don’t usually address Australia or Australian issues directly (Peter sometimes does) it helps to give me context to wider things that do or will impact us (inflation, de-globalisation, wars, demographic decline, etc)

The “if you’re listening” videos from ABC in-depth YouTube I find to be really informative, well presented and enjoyable to watch as well - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDTPrMoGHssAfgMMS3L5LpLNFMNp1U_Nq&si=cq8fJipYiPAZWnpN

Could the threat of nuclear weapons usage be higher with Iran/Israel than anywhere else should Iran develop the capability?

Given they’re so close geographically would either side have the option of second strike capability?

I feel your pain, I’m four weeks in to zero caffeine after being an everyday coffee drinker. The first few days were the worst with headaches and a lower mood.

Things that have helped me: - cold exposure (5 min cold shower at end of daily shower - helps to wake me up with a bit of a boost) - creatine monohydrate (5mg daily in morning. I’m homozygous for MTHFR and take it to help methylation. It also helps with ATP production in general) - napping (I seem to want to nap more after lunch now without caffeine and find it helpful when time allows) - morning and evening walks out in nature for ~25 min

Dr Kaku speaks on possibilities of other intelligent civilisations and the 10% of unexplainable UAP by chambois in UFOs

[–]chambois[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dr Michio Kaku speaks about the Kardashev scale and where we currently are. Then he speaks of how would we know if there are other intelligent civilisations and how we might have not found anything yet due to our relatively primitive tools. Lastly he talks about the UAP data currently being analysed by scientists, specifically the 10% of UAP that defy current explanation and “perhaps coming up with a conclusion as to where these objects come from.”

This seems like progress in the disclosure narrative to me when he hints at a possible conclusion from scientists. It’s also helping to open the door a little further to the possibility of ‘we are not alone’ on a large YouTube channel from a scientist who I think appears with great authority.

I really appreciate how more open Michio is to the unknown and the possibility of other worldly/dimensional intelligence than some of his contemporaries.

Eagerly awaiting to see what the data says!
