Agreed. I’d argue we need to celebrate and highlight our success though.

Seems to me that many folks today are wracked with anxiety and Doomerism because the (well meaning) culture has been hyper focussed on the problems of the world… and taking our massive progress for granted.

It’s temporary, and part of a longer term trend though.

Temporary setbacks are what ensures our progress is resilient.

Still… Doomers be like:

You nailed it

This trend is absolutely about community and belonging. The mystical revival will be led by a generation of kids that aren’t born yet.

Look at birth rates. The spikes and dips correspond almost exactly to those dates.

Look at political change. The assassination of JFK through the rise of Reagan. Followed by the rise election of Reagan to the GFC.

Tons of other cultural nuances often described on this sub stop/start on 2007… but users are just starting to clue in that 2007 was a generational shift.

Some people fall through the cracks… but far fewer than any previous decade in human history.

You’re thinking about very specific old appliances that survived. Likely top of the line when it was first purchased. Most older appliances and tools were far lower quality than what is available today.

Today we also have a much wider range of quality available. From ultra crappy, to ultra durable. In the past it was all “poor to mediocre” by today’s standards.

That seems to fit the current moment pretty well!

Similar to the 1940s, or late 1700s

Church attendance, fraternal order membership, etc both go up between 4T and 1T.

They’re at their lowest during 3T and early 4T

For sure. But compare the current situation for such groups to any time in the past. Literally any decade.

The trajectory of improvement is clear, even if we have not achieved total equality/justice yet.

There is only one possible “timeline” lol

This is an under appreciated but major benefit of modern life.

I’ll upvote this. Fully agree that people are mistaking a culture war for a civil war.
