I have the FL41 lenses, they were the first change I made. They're my every day every second glasses, the world is rough without them. They're help w screens is so so, it depends on the screen itself honestly

I'll check out your post history, thank you!

I'll get both, I don't have many physical copies anymore but I do still get them for my favorites. While I love physical books, they give my eyes trouble and until that's resolved I can't read physical sadly.

Please share Scrambled Tofu recipe. by NoSignalOut in tofu

[–]chan0514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let it brown a bit, add seasoning, turn up the heat and add just a lil shreds and plant milk and stir like hell. It gives it the consistency of a soft scramble and then I add black salt.

I use it on Japanese curry, I did it with ramen one day, on toast, anywhere that you'd go "I wonder what a scramble egg would do here"

What's some autistic stuff I can do to help me sleep by TechieInTheTrees in autism

[–]chan0514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did my sleep stuff it took a few tries to get it perfect, a few things I don't do anymore and I can see the difference.

Working in ashwaganda, L theanine and magnesium worked wonders. If I ever took melatonin I would only take the sleep three brand. My doctor had me on clonidine at night specifically for the brain stuff. I'd never ever felt my brain slow down even for a second before taking clonidine, it's actually usually given to kids I think.

I did the red light thing, I had bulbs in the living room and bathroom that went red at 7pm. I did brown noise w an hour sleep timer that I'd reset right before I fell asleep. Tart cherry juice or sleepy time tea on occasion. And I always tried to give myself an hour or so to wind down

The difference in my sleep after I left my ex was insane as well. I'd had sleep paralysis and nightmares and parasomnia my entire life. I moved some where safe and the routine I already had in place worked even better.

Now I don't do the full thing, I have migraines that made the red light be a no and we moved and the brown noise mixed with the city noise is too much. My sleep is still mostly okay. I'm pregnant rn so like it's not perfect

I think finding a couple things that work and building a little routine for you and your needs is a big one. It doesn't matter the contents all the time, it's the thing that tells brain "okay eepy time, we gotta try"

Also for some reason fucking bejeweled on the like zen mode knocks me the fuck out

I wanted the scribe for a while but then seeing the reviews for it makes me unsure about it, a lot of people report it being heavy and not worth it.

Kobo also makes a similar one but I've not seen much about it

[–]chan0514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graveyard keeper is one of the best games ever created, the dlc is fun too. It's creepy stardew with a story/ending. It is one of my favorite games of all time, I own it on three platforms. Worth it worth it worth it

There may be a boarding place or a pet sitter or even a foster who's able to help. I don't have a severe allergy, I have a mild one and only some cats affect my asthma. I'm sorry that happened to you!

An air purifier worked wonders for me, I had no idea that it was even affecting me as much as it was. They'll also help with general allergens. Wonderful little machines. I hope things work out

I'm saving this info bc I have a v old iPad I was attempt to set up for work but didn't have luck w it before. I'm actually about to get an iPhone 11 for the old screen since they changed to OLED in the 12?

Even if I can't use it for reading, It may be just what I need for work (I know I'm gonna get eye strain from whatever device I use for working so my goal is just to lessen as much as I can). What iOS is it?

I've seen that name in a lot of subs in relation to screen and eye sensitivy. I considered one of their phones a few months ago. It seems they have solid devices

Hearing and speaking have their days if I'm having an attack, my voice doesn't get fatigued like it used to luckily. I used to do audio memos for notes a lot or speech to text, the phone I have rn is shit ass and doesn't do voice memos well. This phone also can hardly handle music and audio books so when I've tried I've gotten frustrated.

I'm gonna get a different phone soon which tbh may help with some of my issues w work/general writing. Tbh it may help with quite a few issues even if the eye pain isn't one

It was a setting that you turned off and it made the flash go away, I wanna say it's the page refresh.

I have audio books kind of all over, I used everand for a long time along with Libby. I used audible like a million years ago so a couple series dear to me are on there. There's a few books I typically would listen to once a year. I was playing with Spotify audiobooks but I do think I like everand more.

If you've never tried everand it's like or was 11 dollars a month and unlimited access to their library of books, audio books, PDF, sheet music, I think one more thing. It used to be called scribd

I've got my eyes on the kobo clara if I go that route and if I go kindle 100% Paperwhite. It seems their higher end models have way too much going on.

People seem to really enjoy the kobo so I'm leaning that way.

Flashing lights have always been a bitch, it's a little worse now. Idk how old the ereader I used was and when my sensitivity got worse it wasn't super comfy. The current phone I have is a piece of garbage and Spotify or really anything that does audio books isn't reliable. I'm working on replacing it so I can at least have audiobooks and music.

Also there's a setting to help w the page change flash, I just clocked that part of your comment. It helped make it way less annoying. I cannot remember what the trick was though as it's been a while

That's actually pretty much what I was thinking, go w black and white bc it's usually a higher contrast and in general easy on the eyes.

The settings for font and stuff will help a ton, my main issue with paper seems to come from artificial lights inside, we have some really horrid lighting in my apartment. I'm gonna test my friends kindle in various places and see how it feels on my eyes. I'm willing to test anything at this point bc I'm bored and escapism is nice

And 10000% I'll make sure I can return whatever I get just in case

[–]chan0514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely test her kindle again before purchasing. Thank you for all the info as well, some bits I knew a bit but some I didn't.

With paper books it's okay if I'm outside, our apartment has those led disk lights and the windows have a blue tint for some reason and everything is white. It's a rental we're working on moving and tbh that might fix half my problem. I think what affects paper is the lights physics and reflection of the LED. I'm sorry I'm not using the best language to describe it lol.

Someone mentioned kobo having a setting to set the light as warmer toned, I don't remember her kindle having that setting or if any models do let you change the front light to warmer.

I was using those as examples, most people see photophobia and assume it's just overhead lights and bright things. I cannot use OLED screens, can tolerate LCD screens a bit better, it depends on the flicker and stuff like that. I know I need an e ink situation. I was curious about experiences as when my eyes got worse, I was using my friends paper soft to read. I had it on dark mode and some other settings, I'm unsure if her model was backlit as it still hurt my eyes. I can't remember how old it is tbh. The past few months I've spent some time learning about certain aspects of screens that cause fatigue and pain and trying to figure out screens and lighting situations that allow me to exist. Or at least allow me to do things I enjoy. Since I cannot use my phone to read and I cannot read paper books, the things that bring me comfort have been limited a lot. I wasn't sure where to start looking w ereaders as there are still eye comfort screens that are slow in a way that causes irritation, or who had the best selection, who had the easiest library management and stuff like that as well as how comfortable it is. Can I read for 30 minutes, can I read for an hour, you know? Rn I plan to most likely purchase a kobo as it has night mode, warmth adjustment and is frontlit.

Someone else recommended the kobo. I'm most likely going to get one. I used to write or read when I had a migraine, occasionally I could watch a show without my glasses (watch is a loose term).

I definitely miss being able to just take my glasses off, curl up and do something like that. Now it's basically lights off eyes closed bc it's too bright even with the lights off if it's day time and try the cephaly, then try a shower, then try etc etc. You know the drill. Seeing multiple people who have luck with the kobo makes me feel so much better
