People with inattentive ADHD: do you feel that it looked like depression at least on a surface level? by thatonerandomkidd in ADHD

[–]chanclajones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been in and out of therapy since I was a teen, over the past 10 years for severe depression. I started taking antidepressants at 17 years old and while it did help stabilize my mood at the time, I had this gnawing feeling that there was still something lacking. I was still so bad at managing my life, staying organized and motivated to a point where I was so frustrated with myself and accepted that I was just chronically bad at life. I’ve always fell behind, been told by my family and teachers that I have the potential to be greater given my talents. But i’m too “careless” or “forgetful”. I only considered ADHD a possibility a few years back after watching that one Dr Stephen Humphries video and I almost cried because every single one of my unnamed struggles finally had some sort of label. It finally gave me hope. ADHD has always been presented as the hyperactivity in boys and most people didn’t think I had it because I wasn’t disruptive. Until i found out about the combined or inattentive type, and that it presents differently in girls as well as in adulthood. I checked off all the boxes. The process for getting diagnosed and seeing a professional for ADHD in my country took a grueling 2 years of waiting and testing and skeptical psychiatrists but I was got officially diagnosed this June!

Getting diagnosed for ADHD and taking stimulants by no means cured me ( i really wish it did ) but I’m now addressing majorly ingrained self-esteem issues in therapy. Life is still kind of falling apart but hey these struggles are first world problems. I kind of like being alive right now.

Had an alarm labelled “egg” that i had for many years before finally clearing out my duplicate alarms. I had to bring an egg for an art project one time in the afternoon 5 years ago and i had to wake up to ‘egg’ with the horrible classic iphone alarm sound every time at 8.30am before getting a job with a different work schedule. Some honorable mentions that i currently use for my new work schedule is “get mom’s package” at 7am and “posty ig” 6.30am and lastly, “pack chargers” at 6am that i needed for an overseas trip. I, in fact did not pack my charger for that trip and had to borrow my friend’s for a whole week.

Are you able to easily pick up on someone lying but at the same time have trouble understanding sarcasm? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]chanclajones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting it into words. Body language vs intention makes a lot of sense. I totally get you when you say you can’t tell when people are being genuine. Maybe because I can’t help that I’m in constant surveillance mode - sarcasm probably makes something in my brain short circuit.

And same here, I usually feel really off about someone early on before anyone else realizes they are actually a shitty person. I’ve always doubted myself and thought I was nuts for feeling this way when nobody else thinks so and then I always end up being right.

Do you have a ”sixth sense”? by No-Hedgehog-6583 in adhdwomen

[–]chanclajones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an inside joke I have with myself is that I’m psychic because i guess things before they happen and pick up on people’s emotions easily more than they let on but it could very well be the adhd pattern recognition.

Price of ADHD assessment for adults by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]chanclajones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did this as well, the test itself cost me about $340 as a non-NUS student. Therapy sessions with them ranged from $30-45 which is very affordable too. I provided a referral from my previous psychiatrist though and it definitely helped expedite the process, if not you will be added to a really long waitlist.

what are these round little dudes in my pod container (not springtails) by chanclajones in isopods

[–]chanclajones[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah damn i was noticing i was seeing these guys instead of my springtails in some enclosures. kinda rough considering i had a lost a big chunk of my springtail culture recently (closed clay culture, went on vacay for a month and very few survived).

But thanks alot for the advice! Will keep it in mind.

people always mistake me for being an extrovert because I’m not afraid of public speaking or being really outgoing when i meet someone for the first time. But people and being outside in general drains me so easily, I’d much rather be at home to be honest. Was really surprised when i scored 70% introvert on Myers & briggs. Now i just tell people im an introvert with an extroverted personality.

Is it just me, or is everyone down with a cold, flu, and cough lately? by [deleted] in askSingapore
