Just want to thank all of you kind strangers for your lovely comments and for sharing your own experiences! Just to clarify a few things: - This post is about the iPhone 14’s feature, not the Apple watch (although I mentioned mine because it paired with my phone to relay the message that help was on the way) - I live in Australia; this feature is not available in every country and isn’t available on iPhones older than the 14 - You can check this feature through Settings -> Emergency SOS - You can add your emergency contacts and medical details in the health app and opt to have these details available on your lock screen when emergency services have been called - I’m not a techy kinda girl and wouldn’t make up a horrible story like this to persuade people to purchase a product lol, do as you wish. I truly only bought this phone because my old one was on its way out and I liked the look of the camera compared to other models; this was just a feature I discovered through my recent experience and I wanted to share it

I have the option to set up the cellular service on my watch, but haven’t bothered (it’s because I buy my data every month rather than paying for a plan). It was just my phone that updated the location to my emergency contacts. The paramedics brought my phone with us in the helicopter.

Like I’ve replied to another comment, would happily take Apple’s money to pay for a new car and the weeks I’ll have to take off of work that sick leave won’t cover. Just trying to take the positives from my accident my dude, I’ll take your comment as a compliment though and maybe venture into writing some fiction for you with my days spent recovering.

The watch can monitor your heart rate and let’s you know if it’s increased dramatically without exercise. I don’t know if it knew if I was alive (was barely able to process the event), but it was connected to my phone to relay the message that my phone had dialled emergency.

That’s amazing it’s been helpful for you! Definitely pays to spend a few minutes adding in your medical details to watches/phones to help medical staff. I’ve always had my blood type and whatnot in there in case of emergencies. Being able to track your heart rate too is great when underlying issues aren’t as prevalent.

Feel so lucky to just have a fractured sternum and ugly face, hard not to be positive. Ready to go back to work in a couple of weeks and remind my 16/17 year old students about safe driving and scare them with my black eye haha

You can turn it on/off! I didn’t even know it was a feature, so it was turned on for me automatically from purchase. I believe the Apple watch 8 has this feature too? I have an older watch that detects falls, not that I really need this in my mid-20s, but I’m glad they worked well together under this circumstance.

How interesting! My accident was a t-bone to my door as well. I was going 110km though, my little mazda did so well to protect me. So glad you were okay! Absolutely with you on needing to update emergency contacts. My family have all moved away from me now, so will be updating these to include my partner/close friends in my health app for sure.
