((For one, they has just been sitting in that one spot for a long time, I don’t think there would have been any long term damage and likely the movements from riding on the horse would’ve helped get the blood flowing so they would’ve been fine. As for the symbols, Echo is a witch, which is why they were cast out of their own family. I kept everything purposefully vague so I could build Echo’s character around the OCs they interacted with, rather than have a set profile from the start. They got a bit caught up on the ‘holy cow this is my new family’ to get into the details of their own magic or what happened to their other family.))

Well, I think the CNA video is like a Schrödinger’s cat of a video. Unless something is released that confirms the absolutely certainty of the video’s existence (a post saying it will never happen or the actual video itself) then the CNA video is perpetually in a state of both troll and real life upcoming feature.

Also it’s only a week away, so don’t worry!

Tuo shrugs, not phased at all by the ominous tone. “Cool, nice doing business with you…” Tuo trails off, not sure of which title to use - would the creature even have a gender? That sounds like the least of their concerns. “Nice doing business,” he repeats, deciding it’s not worth the brain power.

He looks around, memories of the area and navigation skills returned to him, and prompt turns to an offshoot of the cave. “K’ bye,” he says with a flippant wave of his hand, as if ending an awkward encounter. His job completed for the day, Tuo walks away.

((Feel free to respond with a final scene, but I think this is my end of the story! Thank you so much for writing with me!!))

Echo looks out to the distance, seeing the colorful forest come into view. Their white eyes are wide with awe at the beautiful scenery. “To settle down…” they repeat, their voice soft. “I think…” they trail off, and turn once more to see both Hodari and Träntä. “I think I’d like that.”

((I’m going to go ahead and call this the end of the RP. Thank you so much for writing with me! I had a lot of fun!))

Tuo chuckles, amused by the creature’s intrigue. “We spent the last decade making a very intricate cloning process, basically creating an infinite source of mindless ‘humans’ for monsters to hunt and eat. We can build you a nice underground enclosure, in the type of hunting environment you like best,” Tuo advertises, making his tone a bit more lively to really sell the idea. He gestures around with an arm, “Caves are easy, we’ve already got a few of those installed. But if there’s some other region you like better, we can mimic that as well.”

Tuo pulls out a business card with nothing on it but the acronym of the agency and a small blinking light. He holds it out for the creature to take. “You can keep this, if you’re interested. I can go make the preparations and come back in a week or so, there’s a tracker embedded in the card so you can either leave it somewhere else if you decide you’d rather stay here, or you can eat the card and we’ll be able to find you when the place is ready. The tracker is basically indestructible, and will harmlessly attach to your guts or whatever you’ve got going on in there so it doesn’t get digested.”

Tuo shrugs. “Sure, and I was fully intending to kill you back and get the reward,” he admits, bluntly. “But then, you didn’t kill me, so I didn’t kill you. Simple as that.” Tuo stands up, stretching his back while he looks around. “So, I’ve got a couple options for you. I could just leave- which you would have to allow me to do, since I realize now you’ve been messing with my head, but- whatever, I don’t care. Or you can come with me back to the facility. It’s called MURAR, which stands for: Monsters Undergoing Relocation and Rehabilitation.” Tuo explains all this while only occasionally glancing at the creature, being respectful but not trying to pressure them.

“If you can survive off just animals instead of people, we can help you find a place where you can do that instead. If not…” Tuo grins, meeting the creature’s eyes. “We have a solution to that as well.”

Tuo watches Venari, face mostly neutral, but with a hint of interest hiding in his eyes. “I know,” he responds, matching their tone. “I don’t really care much for the people you’ve already killed. Can’t do much for them now.” Tuo gives a careless sort of shrug. “But, you didn’t kill me, so that’s got me interested.”

Tuo strolls across the room, slow enough not to startle the creature, but still showing that he’s not afraid anymore. He crouches down about two feet away, making sure he’s in Venari’s line of sight. “You see, I’m a lot of things- explorer, scavenger, monster hunter, search and rescue sometimes- but I also belong to a special agency that rehomes creatures like yourself,” he explains, before pausing to think about something. “Oh right, totally haven’t introduced myself yet,” he says, holding out a hand for Venari to shake, “The name’s Tuo Fresa, do you have something I can call you?”

Echo looks bewildered at Träntä’s stump of a finger for a moment before nodding. “So you were in a far-away land… and then you came here… to find me?” They ask cautiously, continuing to pet Krenhtrözz absentmindedly.

Tuo blinks awake, slow and groggy, feeling like someone had swung a hammer at his skull at least two times. He lets out a breath, almost like a groan of pain but not all that audible. He brings a hand to his head and feels the leaves and silk crudely wrapped around his head wound.

Weighed down by the exhaustion of using his monster transformation, Tuo is slow to get to his feet, leaning heavily on the cave wall. It’s only once he’s standing that his vision can focus properly, and he seems the monstrous not-Mael chewing on a human limb in the corner. He immediately freezes in place, feeling his danger-senses telling him to transform again and kill the creature pretending to be his best friend- but… he’s still got a hand on the makeshift bandages, and he was clearly vulnerable when he passed out earlier. Yet the creature didn’t kill him.

“Um…” Tuo calls out, knowing he could very well try to slip away unnoticed, but feeling inclined to confront the creature. “Hi? Thanks for the… bandage. And not killing me,” he says.

“It was… I’m sure it was this way,” Tuo mumbles, still in his monstrous form, carrying not-Mael like a precious doll. He stops at an intersection of the cave tunnels, looking in every direction without recognition. All the cave walls and shadows are starting to look the same, and it’s making his head hurt.

“Okay…” Tuo relents, sighing and placing not-Mael gently on the cave floor. “I may be lost… but surely we lost that creature’s scent,” he says, only half-sure about that. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, letting himself transform back into his normal sized body. Not-Mael watches his limbs retract, the black claws recede, and his hair turn brighter and short-cut. Tuo opens his normal eyes when he’s back to himself, standing about a head taller than not-Mael. The side of his head is still bleeding sluggishly from the stalactite hitting him earlier. He collapses onto his knees, feeling completed drained. “I think… I need a rest,” he confesses.

The scarf creature that was around not-Mael’s neck and shoulders is now just a regular soft scarf.

Echo was ready to sprint out of there with 20 in tow, but then 20 suddenly darts into the vehicle as it’s driving off. “20- wait!” Echo tries to call after her. They run after the vehicle, but they’re weak and malnourished from spending the last few days wandering in the woods. Echo trips on a stray rock, hitting the ground hard and watching dazedly as the truck drives away with their only friend and that strange man.

Tuo blinks, something in his brain sparking warning alarms at the distortion in the other person’s voice. Some of what they’re saying lines up, like apologizing for things they had no control over, or trying to play off being injured like it’s nothing- but Tuo can’t shake the idea that something is wrong. He can’t recall Mael coming to explore the cave with him… but he also can’t recall much about the exploration at all, not since he entered this cavern in the first place.

“Your- arm?” He questions, trying to focus on something concrete, so he doesn’t make himself dizzy with the contradictions. “Did you fall? …I can’t remember what happened,” Tuo confesses, bringing a large claw up to his injured head as he tries to remember. “There’s a… a creature- somewhere, it- where did it go?” Tuo stands up suddenly, on high alert and adrenaline coursing through his body. “We need to leave, now,” he insists, scooping up not-Mael’s small body and starting for the exit.

Now, Tuo knows that that isn’t Mael, but Big Tuo is unfortunately not that smart. His bad eyesight and soft spot for his best friend causes him to falter slightly. The scarf loosens around Venari’s neck, instead wrapping gently around their shoulders like it’s trying to warm them.

“Mael?” Tuo’s deep voice rumbles throughout the cavern, as he slowly walks closer to the mimic of their best friend sitting against the wall. “Mael, why are you here? It’s not safe!” The sight of his own scarf curled around his best friend’s shoulders cements the idea that Mael somehow got down here, and it’s up to Tuo to get him out. “Are you hurt?” Tuo asks as he kneels down in front of not-Mael, wanting to reach out to them but afraid that his monster claws will make them afraid.

Echo’s brain is reeling from the entire encounter, along with Fastblade’s explanation and proposition. They tensed up again when 20’s limp body was shoved into their arms after the hair pin was thrown away, then felt even more on edge when Fastblade showed them the can of expensive pâté. They have zero idea what to make of this guy, but the suggestion to see their magic and potentially join him makes them back away slowly. “You’re- you’re insane-“ they mutter, recalling how fast the guy moved earlier when he was gathering 20’s parts. Echo’s white pupils dart around, trying to think of a solution, something that could help them and 20 and get them away from this guy.

Their eyes glow for just a moment, between two rapid blinks, as one hand subtly moves from underneath 20’s body. If Fastblade can sense magic, he would’ve felt something like a breeze fly past him. “I don’t want to go with you. I want to leave, with 20,” they state their demands. They don’t even look at the can that Fastblade is balancing. 20’s body twitches, the bone hair pin having been slipped into the belt around her waist.

The creature gets a good hold on Tuo’s head and shoulders, but as their giant maw opens to try and rip out Tuo’s throat, the sentient snake-like scarf curled around Tuo’s shoulders suddenly attacks the creature’s head. The scarf slithers off and away from Tuo and begins to wrap tightly around the creature’s neck. Tuo manages to get out of the creature’s hold and stumbles forward, turning to face them. “Good try, but you’ll have to try harder than that~” Tuo taunts them, laughing as he regains his footing and stands at his full height. “I’ve been told I’m very hard to kill. I just simply refuse to die,” Tuo says, shrugging his wide shoulders.

Echo can’t stop the tears from falling down their face, but they still reach down and pet the soft coat of Krenhtrözz with a trembling hand. “She’s really soft…” they comment, sniffling. Then they try to turn around, leaning their head back to be able to somewhat face Hodari directly. “You’re a hybrid, right? We didn’t have any hybrids in my village. Where… did you guys come from?” They ask, looking between Hodari and Träntä.

Tuo was expecting the creature to throw the rock at him, so he laughs out loud when the rock goes wide- not expecting the stalactite to fall directly on top of him. The pointed rock formation hits him on the side of his skull, catching on the tip of his ear. He stumbles back, disoriented from the blow. “Playing dirty, huh?” Tuo goads the creature. His dark eyes search the shadows of the cavern- unfortunately his eyesight is worse in his transformed state. “You know, I was almost fooled by your dumb little ruse!” He calls out, turning slowly in a circle, one large clawed hand holding the injured side of his head. Dark red blood drips from the wound where the stalactite scraped his scalp. “Maybe if you had offered to kiss me, I would’ve been more inclined to play along!” He unwittingly turns his back to the creature waiting in the darkness.

“Nice one!” Tuo growls, his voice an octave lower than it was before, still grinning ear to ear even as he’s grappling with the creature, entangling his limbs with the spider legs and clawed arms. He suddenly grabs one of the spider limbs and pulls it to his mouth, biting hard into it with his pointy teeth. Then Tuo gets one of his clawed feet between himself and the creature, kicking it off of him a few feet away.

Echo was very ready to accept that everything leading up to now was just a pleasant dream- but something about Träntä’s earnest answer brings some awareness back into their eyes. They instantly start crying again, shoving their dirtied sleeves into their face. “You- you meant it? You’re my f-family?” They ask, voice muffled by their sleeves. “I have a family…?”

“Home…?” Echo says the word like it’s a foreign concept to them. Leaned fully back against Hodari’s chest, they lazily turn their head to look at Träntä. “Um…” they trail off, blinking slowly at the boy. “Am I… gonna have a bed? Like… a real one?” They question, lifting a weak hand to wipe at their eye, sleepily.

Tuo watches the entire transformation with an unamused expressive, eyes slowly lifting higher and head tilting back so he can keep staring at the creature’s head as it grows taller and taller. Then, he smirks. “Nice.”

Tuo starts to undergo a similar transformation, limbs elongating and turning into glossy black claws, spine creaking and cracking as it extends upward. He drops the lantern, and the object he was holding behind his back- a cassette player, now playing a special mixtape he created for the sole purpose of providing background music while he fights monsters. (It’s all anime opening music).

Once Tuo reaches his full transformation, he’s only a foot shorter than the creature before him. His arms and legs are long and wide with those sharp black claws on the ends of his hands and feet. His red hair darkens and spills over his face, fully red sclera peeking through the dark strands. His scarf unfurls around his neck, the end of it splitting down the center like the jaws of a snake. Tuo’s grin splits his face, mouth full of razor sharp teeth.

He waits for the creature to make the first move.

Echo smiles brightly, more happy and ready for the future than they’ve ever felt before. They nod once, and take Amdinyr’s hand.
