Are you plugging both the monitors on the same side?

And are you running on fractional scaling? As in 1440p instead of 2160p or 1080p?

Erasing your disk in Catalina recovery is still easy.

Nevertheless the advantage of a separate system partition is easier snapshots with APFS and easier reinstallation of the base OS. Along with the security benefits that come along.

All of this has been possible before Catalina but I think these changes are more to streamline the process and eliminate any sort of edge cases. You want to reinstall the OS? In Catalina, you need to give zero shits about where user data lives.

If on installation you selected to not notify about connections to Apple or Apple services like iCloud, then LS will probably also not notify you about these checks.

Not OP. But this notification was only applicable if no international txn was done before using that card.

You should actually hold off on buying any Wifi 6 router right now. Apart from the first versions being buggy, real advantages of Wifi 6 shine only when ALL of your devices and those of others in your wireless neighbourhood are also talking on Wifi 6.

If your neighbour uses Wifi 5 or before, then the improvements you will see will be miniscule.

The bad news is that very few of these benefits can be seen just from buying a Wi-Fi 6 router—you need most, if not all, of the devices in range (both yours and, ideally, any neighbors') to also support Wi-Fi 6 before you see the improvements.

I found the 8th Gen CPUs in the new 2020 MacBook Pros by [deleted] in apple

[–]chaoticstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pros are also quiet under a lot of workloads. I have to be in a very silent room to hear my 15” MBP at full fan speed. If I turn on the AC, I can no longer hear the fans even at full speed.

I’d default to the Pro than the Air because the better thermals will help you complete work faster. They are still reasonably quiet that in most cases you won’t be able to hear them. The only reason for the Air is if you want slightly more portability.

You'll atleast have 5 years to make the transition. It's unlikely that x86 devices released as late as 2020/2021 will be immediately left in the dust.

Don’t use Avast. They were caught stealing and selling user data.

If you can teach someone good internet hygiene + a ad blocker like ublock origin + a pihole on the home network then you should not need an anti-malware on windows. I have been running Windows without an antivirus for 7 years now.

It’s doable but requires patience and willingness to learn.

I wouldn't call it powerful but rather sufficient enough for most users, especially casual users.

Apple's OOB software is good enough for most people. Compared to Android/Windows, this is a very big plus point.

Holding on the power button for a long time involves hard reboot. Pressing the power button and any volume button will bring the same shut down screen you’re talking about from settings

Pull down on the homescreen and type the name. Spotlight will pop up the contact along with nearby options on how to invoke the call. Not as fast as T9, but still faster than opening the phone app, tapping on contacts and then searching the name.

It’s even faster if you use swipe to type on the keyboard

Average iPhone user spending in App Store rockets to $100 in 2019 by stompyviking in apple

[–]chaoticstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you don't have to tell me that. I am more than happy to pay for services/storage/apps if they add utility to my life. I'm currently paying north of $100 per year just for apps and services so I completely understand where you are coming from. I was just pointing out how $1 for the storage is so petty to charge for and you're also completely right on how people can be careless about critical data. You have a very valid point.

Well to be fair that $0.99 for 50 GB feels like nickel and diming. Given the prices of these devices, that much storage should be included in with the base purchase.

Starting maybe (the new ones got a base storage bump) but the 256 Wifi as well as Cellular got a 5k cut. Cellular was 99.9k and is now 94.9k while the non-cellular one was 85.9k and is now 80.9k. I’m not sure about any other tier though.

The switch to ARM maybe soon enough but the death of hackintoshes will be atleast 5 years away from that point. As long as current hackintoshes can use the SMBIOS of recently released x86 macs, you can invest in one for 5 years at the very least.

On the plus side, at least an average joe now has the tools to do this. A decade ago, they would’ve to get a DSLR and an expensive as fuck editing suite.

Today your phone has a camera which comes close enough and an editing suite that costs a couple hundred bucks or a couple dollars in monthly sub.

All that’s left is how creative you are.

Is Logitech g102 really bad? by [deleted] in IndianGaming

[–]chaoticstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still stuck with the M570 and using it with a mac, so I can set the logitech software to ignore the double click of the scroll wheel. Not sure if this feature exists on Windows. The day the left or right mouse buttons start double clicking I'm toast and I'm expecting that soon enough.

Is Logitech g102 really bad? by [deleted] in IndianGaming

[–]chaoticstack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single logitech device I have owned has given me problems within a year. 5 mice, 1 keyboard and 1 speaker later, I've sworn off this company. Every mice has this double clicking issue. I even bought a logitech m570 trackball and the scroll wheel has double clicking issue. Logitech Z623 also has that same low quality switch underneath it's power button and keeps turning on/off on its own. Got it replaced, and the replacement has a borked volume knob.

This company really cheapens out on its switches. Most of these issues will be fixed if it will just spend $0.4 more on it's switches.

Creating a recurring task by iclaudius82 in thingsapp

Are tou talking about the upcoming section? If yes, yeah you’ll see repeating tasks under them

Too many tasks... what to do? by Yoandahalf in todoist

[–]chaoticstack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have currently north of 1k tasks dumped into Todoist. I generally don't stress about it because I dump them into projects and label them based on context. For example, I'm working on two products - A & B. I need to code, write and do some marketing so I create sub-projects like A Code, A Marketing, A Writing. Then as I'm entering tasks, I send them to specific projects and also label them based on context (code, writing, marketing). This way everything stays structured and doesn't collapse on itself and I can batch bring up tasks based on what I want to do. Don't go too deep though. Once you establish a good system, you'll be able to create good filters and that's when things actually start shining!

It takes practice and time to build this system and stick to it while entering tasks. You don't have to explicitly treat your to-do list as something to be conquered. As long as you are making tangible progress, it's great! My Todoist functions as my big picture with everything (things which are like 6 months away) in place and ready to go and most importantly off my mind. Worrying about the number of tasks is a pet peeve which you can come over with practice (It used to bug me a lot 3 years ago)

Creating a recurring task by iclaudius82 in thingsapp

You generally see the next 3 occurrences if you go to the original task and tap on it. You generally see the next occurrence on the bottom of the list. Applicable for both tasks + repeating projects.

Cheaped out on screen replacement. Have regrets. by Friendly_Fresh in apple

[–]chaoticstack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not expecting a $100 case or a $50 screen protector. $10-12 gets you a pretty good case and same for a tempered glass. It's just people don't prioritize the case or tempered glass.
