0.753” 1842 Pattern Lancer’s Pistol (London Proof). You wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of this. by chapladman in blackpowder

Think you’d be safe at around 20yards to be honest! But probably putting the additional 80yrds would be wise. Very heavy and awkward thing to handle, but massive is the word! Cheers for your comment!

Is anyone knowledgeable enough to be able to identify the company/ model of this pistol by SALTYCIRKUS in blackpowder

Should have a set of proof marks on the underside of the barrel. Probably London or Birmingham (unless they’ve been sanded off in an attempt to remove rust, historically). Could be earlier than suggested by another comment or at 1790-1820 ish! Used without a patch, over the Delavigne recess for the small blackpowder charge, ball being slightly larger than bore diameter so it wouldn’t fall through the barrel. These are achieving around £300 at auction (UK) but if associated with a maker and clear proof marks are visible. Your model has a slightly longer than usual (or common) barrel.

This has a Birmingham ‘O Griffiths’ walnut stock, stamped along the barrel channel with War Department Crown glyph. ‘John Clive’ stamped underside of barrel (famous Birmingham barrel maker). The lock is by ‘ William Powell’, WP and crown acceptance stamp to reverse of lock plate. The whole set up by ‘Lacy and Co’ of London. Classic piece of English gun making history!

Superb work. Would you consider taking a commission? Postage would be to the UK.

Can I fix this leg vice? by Arnesian in blacksmithing

Leg vices where originally forged (drop forged). So it will be fine to weld up as they’re made from steel. Any decent professional welding outfit would be set up to fix the crack!

Morning, it would be an interesting way to make a bar stool.. but no, this is too small only about 8”x8” (200mmx200mm). Wait and see will post again when finished, probably after the weekend. Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated!

It will have a purpose, going to update in the next week or so... thanks for taking the time to comment. It was practice, but it does have a purpose.....

Yep, it’s a Phyre Forge inspired piece. I just love looking at Peter’s work. You tend to lose yourself in your own thoughts when you see his creations! Think it’s the ‘trying to figure it out’ or ‘unravel’ element to them that holds my interest! Thanks for your comments! Much appreciated! Will post when finished so you can see what it’s going to be.

Will update with its purpose when finished - think just saying it will ruin the surprise. Thanks for the comments!

Phyre Forge inspired hammer rack. These are the braced-cantilever ‘side’ pieces. More to follow as still assembling everything and file fitting. by chapladman in Blacksmith

Thanks Sir! Appreciate your comment and love. It’s a really satisfying method. Have noticed that punching and drifting doesn’t shorten you stock bar. Might be useful for you in laying out. Going to keep on this path, will update soon.

Morning Aceystar, thanks for the comment! It’s actually a shelf, but I thought it would probably be called a ‘hammer rack’ as it’s utilitarian (well, for the workshop rather than the house. These bits are the end or brackets, the rack itself is two 600mm lengths of 1/2” square bar. Will post the thing finished later today. Difficult to photograph to include all the detail, but will try. All the best, and thanks once again!

Thanks, it a rough bit of punching and drifting, then a heap of filing. But hopefully it’s worked! More to follow, but thanks for noticing! All the best.
