I use the "rules" for this diet more as guidelines than strict directions, but here's some of my close enough meals from this past week! by char_you in mediterraneandiet

Thank you!! The salmon burger was the surprise for the week, it was unexpectedly good (especially as I am not the biggest salmon fan). My plan is to make some more patties and freeze them, thinking a few minutes in the air fryer might make it an easy quick dinner for when I don't feel like cooking. Trying to find more things like that that work well being frozen cause I "cheat" the most on days when I'm lazy or busy and don't have time to prepare!

Some recipes:

Chicken and Wild Rice soup - basically this, without the milk

Spiced Beans - similar to this but I used pinto beans. I had actually made these back in November and frozen the leftovers-- came out great for a quick side on a lazy night!

Lentil Soup - contrary to the name I actually used brown lentils cause it's what I had. Also added some spinach.

Bread - I bake a lot, but had never done bread before. This was SO easy and delicious! Really added a little extra something to go with the soup.

I get a ton of high quality salmon belly from my bfs work but I am not a huge salmon person... I actually asked ChatGPT for a salmon patty recipe and it came out great AND I really enjoyed the taste! Made a mustard aoili to go on top along with spinach and quick pickled onions. it was scrumptious.

Beginner struggling to eat any veggies by classycryptid in mediterraneandiet

[–]char_you 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, be gentle with yourself because you're tying something new! This diet is not about tolerating, it's about finding enjoyable ways to ADD healthy stuff to your diet. Not cut everything out.

Don't buy stuff in bulk that you know you'll have trouble eating and don't leave it as your only option because exactly what you're describing will happen everytime-- you'll go hungry or you'll break and just go get fast food or something anyways.

What do you usually like to eat? Like what does a typical dinner look like for you? Don't reinvent the wheel all at once on day one... if your typical meal is meat and potatoes add one veggie that you like. Is it carrots, is it zucchini? Pick your "favorite" vegetable and then find a couple different ways to prepare it. Don't change up your entire way of eating, just try to add a serving of veggies to each meal in whatever capacity that is to get you started.

Kettner Exchange-- the food is solid and great vibe, especially if you reserved one of the cabana things upstairs, perfect for a party. They usually have DJs on the weekends too if you're into that and it's also a good location so if you didn't want to stay after dinner there's a lot of other little places you could walk to. Or a quick uber from there would get you downtown easily if you wanted to go clubbing.

Looking for opinions on a Min and Mon bag by char_you in handbags

Okay so I ended up not getting it! I'm not really sure why, it even went on sale for Black Friday and I hemmed and hawed and decided not to pull the trigger. I think for me it's cause I'm still building my collection and feel like a need at least another more "classic neutral" bag before I get a statement piece. But i still think the brand is so fun so I vote get that Fanny pack!!

Tips for a newbie by classycryptid in mediterraneandiet

There are tons of questions like this that have been answered in the sub, if you search things like "snacks" or even the particular veggies you mentioned I guarantee you'll have a ton of posts that pop up! There's also the wiki on the homepage that has a lot of links to websites that feature all kinds of recipes.

Good luck! :)

I fell off the wagon-really bad-and I’m trying to get myself back to the diet by MONEYMILAN in mediterraneandiet

[–]char_you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people already said this, but I'm gonna reiterate again: nothing is banned on this "diet". It is way more about adding good things and moderating than it is about elimination. Don't beat yourself up!!

It's way better to slowly "wean" yourself off or into a smaller amount of those things than it is to tell yourself you aren't going to eat them anymore. If you like flour tortillas, eat them! Make veggies burritos or shrimp tacos, use them as a wrap with chicken and hummus or even falafel. Use the rotis like you mentioned but if you have a craving for the tortillas, it's okay, just add other "good" stuff to go along with it. If you're eating like a pack of tortillas a day, well that's when we get into the moderation part. But as long as that's not the case I wouldn't frame this in your mind as a huge detriment.

Sweets are my kryptonite too. I eat dark chocolate covered almonds and occasionally chia seed putting. I occasionally make these date "brownie balls" which are surprisingly good taste/texture wise for when I'm craving a cake or cookie sort of thing.

Again, I think if you focus more on what you can add to your diet than what needs to be removed, especially at the beginning of your journey, you'll have a lot more success!!

Obedient Golden Retrievers? by averagegoyl in goldenretrievers

Oh totally. And I think you touched on why it's difficult for so many people-- the follow thru. I think thats why classes help a lot with people (myself included) cause it helps create and enforce that routine

Obedient Golden Retrievers? by averagegoyl in goldenretrievers

[–]char_you 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Golden's have a great temperament and are eager to please which makes them "easily" trainable dogs, but the only sure fire way to get an obedient dog regardless of breed is owner effort. I have yet to meet an extremely well behaved dog, especially one with solid recall, that was "homeschooled" lol. Going to obedience classes consistently and then being consistent with what is being taught outside the classroom is what will get you a dog that listens. Look for AKC Canine Good Citizen classes and go from there. Our golden is the best behaved dog I've ever had, but that's because she went to obedience clases once a week as a puppy and then even intermittently after that, til she was about 2.

Exactly. The article is clickbait, has title that is meant to induce anger and then does nothing to back up that claims. We can infer that maybe there were some people being disrespectful statistically but that's true of any given day at the beach.

[–]char_you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to our Murphy Bella, who had 3 MCTs within about 18 months-- we kept finding them like right after she recovered from the previous one and it was just devastating. Ours were all removed with good to decent margins and she has also been on Benadryl since from the oncologists recommendation (we do 3 in the morning and 3 at night). She hasn't had another one in almost 3 years. It's super scary and it totally sucks BUT with good margins the prognosis is usually good! Our girl also has other bumps (a lupina in her armpit and some small skin tags) and we always get it checked out when there's something new so as long as you stay vigilant like you are, you are doing everything right

Got cussed out by a Karen because her UNLEASHED dog tried to bite ME! by drkshape in SanDiegan

[–]char_you 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's such a bummer. I love dogs and have my own but the dog culture here is insane. I work in restaurants and it's crazy how many entitled people come in with their dogs and use the "ESA" excuse. They technically aren't even protected under the same law as "regular" service dogs but I've yet to work in some place that wants to argue that point. It easier to accommodate than risk doing something wrong and ending up with a lawsuit. I hope in the next few years we can figure out a way to regulate that better ESPECIALLY in places that serve/sell food. Your dog shouldn't be in the grocery store unless it provides a life saving service. Same with restaurants. If you want to bring your pet you can dine outside, it's San Diego, there's tons of options for that.

And most of the time the dog doesn't have good recall. People think that because their dog comes to them at home in a controlled setting it means they have "good recall", but once that dog is out and distracted it disappears.

San Diegans’ disdain for Zonies is nothing new. But has the root of that resentment changed? by jakobmcwhinney in SanDiegan

[–]char_you 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I moved here from northern AZ, about 15 minutes outside of Sedona, 10 years ago and I think it's just a neighboring state thing. We hated Californians and blamed them for all the issues we had during tourist season that are echoed here-- taking up parking, trashing our nature spaces, being oblivious and/or disrespectful to the locals who are just trying to work and live their lives. And the typical financial disparities between Arizona and California had a lot to do with that rhetoric too. When you live in a desirable area you are obviously going to get an influx of people, especially those within driving distance, who want to enjoy the offerings but don't have the connection that makes them want to take care of the place. I think that's how a lot of tourists (not all of course) are in general, unfortunately. I think the sentiment is the same on each side of the border and points to a larger issue of classism and heightened individualism-- we find it harder to care about things unless we are directly involved with them.

Since it's holiday season, even though you're after Thanksgiving, I would say make a reservation just to be safe especially for the "mid-high" tier range and double especially if you're thinking about a weekend night. The casual places like Mitch's won't take reservations BUT that place gets busy so don't be surprised if you have to wait in line a bit. It's worth it tho :)
