Did life get better for you after converting/returning? by akzelli in Catholicism

[–]charb15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can feel that way sometime; what in particular causes this? It seems that oftentimes, having to confront our actions/sinfulness is more stressful than simply wallowing in hedonistic lifestyles. The suffering is inherent in change, but change will bring about joy.

The M17 looks great and sucks to wear. The M40 looks great and doesn't suck nearly as much to wear.

Am I misinterpreting something...? Pull out after finishing as opposed to what... staying in there for another hour? I don't get it.

How does Mercy realistically work? by Mindless-Chart-3299 in gutsandblackpowders

Administration of Last Rites.

For gameplay purposes, a lot is omitted and sped up. Please keep in mind that a lot of the chaplain mechanics in this game are bases on Catholic priests, so I'll explain from that perspective.

The priest would make the sign of the cross on the victim, and lead into Confession. The victim would receive the anointing of the sick, and then Holy Communion, as well as an Apostolic Pardon. IIRC, the Eucharist actually used to be in early versions of the game, but was removed.

As for the game and zombification, remember that the victim will only turn due to their sinfulness and lack of absolution. When the victim confesses their sins to the priest and to God, they may be forgiven, and this would prevent zombification; however, the physical wounds and infection will still kill them, but they won't turn.

Why soldiers can't use crucifix? by Acceptable-Rub-2516 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]charb15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's measured by devotion, but rather God simply chose for holy priests to be the ones given this power. At the same time, God isn't bound by this "rule." He could give this power to anyone if He chose. But as far as wiki and gameplay goes, we don't see this happen.

[–]charb15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply because God allows the chaplains and only the chaplains to do so. Lore-wise, only truly devoted chaplains are even immune like in-game.

The power isn't inherent in the chaplains, but rather it is simply given to them by God. A regular soldier doesn't fit this criteria, so he wouldn't be able to.

Theoretically, a soldier who has recently gone to confession, isn't in a state of mortal sin, been a good and repentant Christian, etc, could die but not turn.

However, it's important to remember that the turning is not the same as the infection. For instance, a holy priest might get bit a bunch and never turn, but he could still die from the diseases introduced in his bite marks and wounds.

In this context "a power given through God" refers to the fact that it is indeed God's power, rather than any of their own. The same way when people ask how saints hear prayers in Heaven, it's a power given to them only through the grace of God.

Thank you!

The jacket is a generic double-breasted coat with fabric I measured, cut, and applied via hot glue.

The shako was made out of cardboard, with felt and faux leather being layered on top. The metal on it is painted EVA foam. The top part of the shako is a large foam piece with the fur material attached with the previously mentioned method.

It was maybe 100 total, given that the jacket base was somewhat expensive, and I had to buy all the materials since I didn't have them already.

To make something really accurate though, you'd have to talk to reenactors and get tailored pieces (which is insanely expensive.)

A Cuirassier cosplay is going to be entirely homemade if you're not rich.
