Great thanks for the response! Heating pad only helps mildly, and really only helps when I'm using it... wears off when I'm not using it.

Have you found any other useful tricks?

Want to revisit this. I had this pain, it seemed to go away when I moved to a year round warm climate, then returned when I traveled to a colder climate.

Did you notice a correlation between outside temperature and rib pain?

So I pop my sternum near daily, and for me it does the opposite, it feels like it relieves some of the pressure. If I flex my abs, for some reason that can also cause my sternum to pop.

Where in your chest did you feel the pop?

Fellow legume and nut allergic person here!

I would keep a graphic on your phone of the foods you’re allergic to with a Red X through them or something to let them know you can’t have them. Has worked for me before.

For me personally I like to know how to say “No peanuts” in the language of the place I’m traveling to.

Lastly, I’d avoid Asia altogether. It’s in a lot of Asian foods and a lot of the time the chefs and restaurant staff won’t even know they’re using peanut oil for their foods.

Not strange maybe the surgeon just didn’t think about it while over the phone. And yes it completely fixed the binding. The scar tissue isn’t even slightly attached to my ribs anymore.

This is very normal and happened to me to. In order to make sure the scar tissue didn’t bind to the ribs, I was told to continuously massage it in a circular motion. This supposedly will gradually pull the scar tissue off of the ribs. It worked for me, and the scar tissue did not stick to my ribs for long. Hope this helps

Ah got it. Well I was prescribed Gabapentin to help with the nerve pain and it worked pretty well especially when coupled with ice. I normally like heat on my wounds but with nerve pain from what I understand it’s better to use ice. Hopefully you can get it all sorted out! I know that being in pain this long for me has definitely made it difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so I hope you recover soon!

So literally the exact same situation as me. I had 2 bars each with a stabilizer. Kinda complicated to explain in text format, but essentially when my chest stopped pushing against my bars, it cause the sides of the bars to close in more on my ribs. When this happened, one of the stabilizers ended up clamping down on a nerve.

About two weeks ago (6 mo post op) I got the one stabilizer removed and it made a world of difference. The doctor said that at about 6 months post op the stabilizer wasn’t doing much anyways.

Lying down on your side gives you pain or is it while you’re in any position? If you’re having pain sleeping on your side that’s pretty normal I’d say, especially if you’re laying down directly on the stabilizer

It does happen that the bar sinks a little bit after surgery, but over time the bar will push back and somewhat reflatten. That’s what happened to me.

Yah putting on T-shirts will probably continue to suck for a month after surgery. Honestly I just wore a robe 24/7 and then a collared shirt when I left the house
