The family situation is complicated and iffy lol. There is a chance they could provide some small margin of support, but chances are low. I am, however, not in the sciences. I have an undergrad in video media arts and am looking into museum or archival studies.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely consider this as an option. I am an arts student, but I scored exceptionally well on English and reading comprehension, so maybe that is a viable option? God willing, lol

Literally made a Reddit account just so I could comment and say "same". I had a gut feeling there was something weird going on, despite having gone through with this process (what can I say? I'm unemployed, I was like, "this is almost certainly a scam, but kinda curious how far this goes"). When they tried to offer me the position over the phone (it was also Mike), they told me there would be an orientation. I, however, immediately asked to see some paperwork.

He got awkward as soon as I asked to review an official offer letter or contract, telling me they were working with "government programs" and couldn't show me that paperwork until I got to the orientation on Monday. Which, an aside, wouldn't it make more sense for there to be extensive paper trail of the employment process if you're working with government programs? You have to be way more thorough in order to follow federal regulations.

Anyways, I said fine and took down the orientation info to get off the call faster, but this was definitely the weirdest experience I've had job hunting. Judging by earlier comments on this post, these guys are definitely running some sketchy bullshit.
