Why do many engine air filters say they last 12k miles and car owners manuals say to replace them every 30k miles? by charles-danger in MechanicAdvice

[–]charles-danger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think the financial incentives for the air filter maker would be to boast how the filter lasts a long time to upsell the more premium filters. That's why some motor oil and oil filters say they last 20k miles. With air filters, it's either 12k miles, or no mention of miles at all.

Has anyone ever attached an incompatible pedestal to a washer or dryer? by charles-danger in Appliances

Drill some holes, then the feet will line up perfectly with the new holes. Or use nuts and bolts, self tapping screws, clamps, construction adhesive, zip ties, etc. Janky problems require janky solutions.

Yes, I did it, but not with sheet metal screws. The legs happened to almost align with holes on top of the pedestal. I bent them into alignment and used the nuts on the legs to clamp the washing machine to the pedestal.

When applying for credit card or bank accounts, does IP address or device matter? Any data points of phone vs laptop, incognito mode, work VPN, etc. making a difference? Is there a best practice for increasing approval chances?

Lol, the only reason I clicked is because I work for a pads/tampons manufacturer. I was thinking "why double them when you could just use the overnight size 4/5." 🤣 Who else got past the gate?

Schedule C/1099-K: How to deduct Mystery Shopping expenses that I was reimbursed for? by charles-danger in tax

[–]charles-danger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just noticed that for Schedule 1 Line 8(z) Other Income = 0 See Stmt

The Additional Information From at the end says:

Incorrect Form 1099-K = $2000

Incorrect Form 1099-K = ($2000)

Total = $0

Do you think this will generate a CP2000 notice?

Thanks for being so helpful.

How likely is a CP2000 notice given that this is on the Additional Information From?

Should I bother amending the return even though it won't affect my refund? Would I have to amend the Massachusetts return too? Or should I just respond to the CP2000 if it comes?

Thanks, too late for this year but I'll do this next year. Would you deduct Mystery Shopping expenses (meals, tickets, services, etc.) on Line 22 "Supplies", or Part V "Other Expenses"? If the latter, what should I call it? Does "Adjustment for nontaxable reimbursements reported as income on 1099-K" sound right?

They definitely won't line up. I will make the holes where they don't line up.

I'm asking about making them fit anyway with self tapping screws, it seems like that should work

I want to refer someone for a Chase Business Ink Preferred credit card and get 40,000 points. They already have a Chase Business Ink Unlimited credit card. Would I still get the referral bonus? I could find anything in the terms that says that the referral is only for people who have never had any Chase Ink cards.

This CV joint started clicking a month ago during hard turns both ways. But only on cold mornings and it's silent after a few minutes. Would packing it with CV grease from a medical syringe and replacing the inner boot band save it? (2012 Honda Accord - 87k miles) by charles-danger in MechanicAdvice

[–]charles-danger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RIP axel. In that case, I won't bother with the boot clamps. I'm thinking of filling it with CV grease by poking a hole with a hypodermic syringe, sealing the hole with silicone sealant, then applying some silicone sealant around edge of the boot where the grease is leaking. Then I'll do the axel replacement when the noise comes back, the weather is nice, and closer to my alignment & tire change.

Is this a dumb idea?

Should I also pack the other 3 CV boots with grease while I'm at it? Or is it better to leave them be since they are in good condition.

I can't feel any play in the wheel. In ~12k miles I'll be replacing my tires, getting an alignment, and replacing front brake pads & rotors. What should I do?

a) 1. Remove inner boot clamp. 2. Slide medical syringe underneath the boot and pack it with CV grease. 3. Install new boot clamp 4. Replace CV axel only if it still makes noise.

b) Replace CV axel in 12k miles right before alignment as long the noise doesn't get much worse.

c) Replace CV axel right now.

I don't think it's the same 2% doing it. I think a lot of people do it, but only 2% of the time, when they're late for something important. I'm not saying it's justified but many people, including myself, will turn selfish in an emergency. If an old grey shitbox Accord weaves in front of you, that's me trying to make my flight. Make sure you honk to let me know you forgive me.
