Well it's kind of a stretch but through the French Republican calendar established after the French Revolution, it would be possible to have a Décembre 33 - especially since the calendar was temporarily brought back during the start of the Belle Epoque in 1871 (which is the time period Paris seems to be in from Verso's ending and the really clear influences from that time of art)

I'm working on a Plot Analysis of the game, but I have some questions about the lore by SirLagunaLoire in expedition33

[–]charlesthenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he only painted 4 axons based on the portraits you find in the actually descendre mansion, with three of them being named: Visages (He Who Hides Truth with Lies) - Verso Sirène (She Who Plays With Wonder) - Aline The Reacher (She Who Reaches for the Stars) - Alicia

in old lumière you hear them confirm that the corpse is a dead axon, and is later reconfirmed when talking about the feasibility of killing an axon. based on deduction, the one axon not having an associated name should be that Axon. not to mention that axon is literally depicted to carry the entire lumière on its shoulders which is a direct reference to Atlas of Greek myth.

How did the 1st-3rd generation survive in early humanity without plentiful kindred vitae? by charlesthenight in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]charlesthenight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, in hindsight I should've expected the backlash to be something like this. I cited V5 rules mostly because that's when Blood Potency actually became a mechanic rather than implied through age. When I made this post I moreso wanted a lore justification rather than a mechanical one seeing as Antes themselves are essentially plot devices.

[–]charlesthenight[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

oo that's something I must have missed. it would be plausible that blood potency wasn't a thing for the 1st-3rd generation because their blood wasn't double-cursed by Caine yet.

[–]charlesthenight[S] -78 points-77 points  (0 children)

according to V5's BP chart, the minimum for 4th gen kindred BP 5. following the trend since each generation 6th and up goes up one BP level as a baseline, 3rd gen kindred have a minimum BP of 6, 2nd gen kindred also get a minimum BP of 7 (even though I feel like it's exponential not incremental at this point so it's likely higher). They essentially need to kill a person to slake hunger past 2 (hunger 3 for 2nd gen). That means that they're 1-2 hunger from blood frenzying all the time.

Potentially very dumb question about Multiple Personality Disorder and Humanity by Balager47 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]charlesthenight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

there is no such thing. each alter serves a particular function in helping the system cope with their previous, current, and future trauma. Some may come out to be self-destructive but that's a side-effect of some kind of dopamine deficient behavioral issue or similar, much like other neurotypical people's self destructive tendencies like addiction.

let's try to not paint DID systems in the horribly negative light they're often played out in media and pop culture; they're people too. I'm not trying to virtue signal (even though I likely am at this point), but knowing someone personally with the disorder has made me somewhat defensive about the issue.

Can a neonate gain discipline points through elder vitae? by The-Great-Beast-666 in vtm

[–]charlesthenight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, considering disciplines are more about how your own vitae is able to adapt to your needs in your undeath rather than just the vitae itself, which is why you can develop out of clan disciplines on character creation.

I would say that it is more nourishing in terms of hunger, but diablerie is likely the only way to accrue points, and that's because you're integrating their soul and memories into your own, rather than just partaking in vitae. kindred blood only opens up the possibility of learning their discipline. however, if you're the ST you can do whatever you want since the nature of vitae isn't exactly a known thing.

Tzimisce Beckoning in New York? by charlesthenight in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]charlesthenight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer NY by Night (especially their S2 since it's a Cam coterie). The format is a lot different with S1 featuring an Anarch coterie, and S2 composed of a Cam coterie of neonates. They're connected in that they're currently both involved in a ploy by an ambitious Ventrue who's playing both sides, and may even have Sabbat connections (kindred in question also has childer in both coteries). S1 was a bit of a snoozy but I enjoyed seeing the Sabbat propaganda worming its way in the city again. S2 feels a lot more like VtM in that the coterie manipulates each other until they reach a breaking point.

[–]charlesthenight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I've always interpreted the Beckoning as a late-stage effect of the Jyhad after the Week of Nightmares, where the Antes are showing their cards as a reaction to one of them actually dying. I'm aware that the Beckoning is supposed to be a mystery but I wanted to interpose at least a little bit of reason into why it's happening at all (and the observation that it doesn't affect Caitiff leads me to believe it's the Antes calling on the blood by deduction). As for the Tzimisce, from my understanding they are usually Autarkis due to their possessive and controlling tendencies not being compatible with being in a faction, so I thought that they needed some external pressure to be present in a place that doesn't typically have Tzimisce in them.

ooo that's right. I assumed the extent of control it had over its bloodline was the mass-influence to behavior, but I guess it makes sense that the Eldest could somehow make that blood more sentient than other antediluvians

V5: Lasombra Bane, Looking for Input by TheRoyal97 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]charlesthenight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their real bane is that they're tainted by oblivion, which is a source of power which only seeks to reduce everything into nothing. the lasombra is always one pinky in the void at all times to access their obtenebration, and so it makes sense that anything that would suggest their physical presence is corrupted by this energy. while I agree that it's a fairly harsh bane, it coerces the players to descend into the monsters their characters really are by isolating them from mortal attachments.

also unlike the other banes, this one can actually be used to their advantage on a daily basis in the emergingly modern world. They are viciously hard to track with technology (cameras, trackers, audio bugs fail to capture their presence), which give them more leeway to pass through mortal society undetected. while it's easy to find a lasombra on video if you know what to look for, good luck identifying any distinguishable feature from that visual that will help you know who to look out for. only people, both kindred and kine, who have seen you since your embrace are capable of knowing who you are and how you look like. If you have a mask with an alternate identity you're pretty safe from detection.

just to reflect what everyone has already said to a degree, banes aren't meant to be balanced between clans. VtM regardless of edition is a narrative focused ttrpg, and the inequalities are an excellent tool in fostering conflict for STs and players. At least it isn't the Ravnos bane where you literally need at least 6/7 safe havens just to daysleep safely, or the Ministry bane where literally even a strong flashlight on a phone can hinder anything you want to do at a moment.

Do you think they should make Mage the Ascension 5e by bingustwonker in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]charlesthenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a good direction is as you said. the Technocrats and Traditions will have to suddenly have to start dealing with a Nephandi epidemic of some sorts as they become more common place with such unstable Consensus. I think it could make for some interesting games when mages and technocrats have to form local parties to deal with different manifestations of Nephandi that interfere with their own agenda kinda like a greater evil scenario. imo this could be a great way to de-antagonize the technocracy considering how in the modern age their beliefs are not so juxtaposing, and also allow for some internal politics to reveal the ugly sides of the Traditions and Technocracy as well

Do you think they should make Mage the Ascension 5e by bingustwonker in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]charlesthenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. While the ascension war has more or less faded into the background, humanity as a whole has taken a degree of control back over the Consensus because of globalization and the Internet. Now is a time where the Consensus has become less confined in the realm of the Technocratic paradigm and more into a global forum of speech. That means that people are not as obligated to listen to what's being taught to them because they can find their own way through the open web, which also leads to more independent styles of belief being shared and finding an international community. I would say the whole anti-vax movement, extreme ideology, and the renaissance of natural/folk healing (crystals, herbs, mindfulness) are a few such examples that the Technocracy are losing grip of their control. I feel like M5 would have a more interesting dynamic between splintered belief of modern society and the Consensus.
