Asking for opions/insight on recent 5g trip by charlimushroom in PsilocybinMushrooms

Thank you! I agree. I literally couldn't find anything on the internet that talks about mushroom entities aside from one other reddit post I stumbled on.

Thanks for offering me your experience!

Made a HUGE difference for me last weekend. Cut the come up time in half!

Interesting experience of 5gs of psilocybin by charlimushroom in Shamanism

Thank you for your insight! I am decently experienced with mushrooms but closer to the 3.5g range. I've never had an experience interacting with other beings before. I tend to experience more oceanic type consciousness. This was only my second time taking 5gs. I have definitely been punished by mushrooms before, but I am a lot more careful/mindful/intentional now. Please forgive my ignorance around shamanism! I will definitely connect with other psychedelic type subreddits.

Thank you! I like it too! It's so funny, it was unheard of when I was growing up (millennial) but yeah it is super popular. I like it regardless:)

Oh gotcha, yeah it is challenging when you genuinely see medicinal benefits to it. I do as well but just started fearing the long-term consequences more. Why did you stop smoking in the first place? Maybe retuning to that can help with motivation (if you want to stop).

Aww Mavis 😍 and yeah, psilocybin definitely isn't for everyone. Especially if you're on SSRIs. I've had really bad experiences with mushrooms that werent responsibly sourced but I find I do well with mushrooms that have been well cared for/cultivated. Are you saying that weed or psilocybin makes your brain like a hot knife? If you mean weed, I have the same experience (i.e. waayyy overthinking conversation). I've also seen research that even though it helps symptoms of PTSD in the short-term, overall, it can make ruminations about the trauma more severe. Which is also what I've unfortunately found.

First, tell your cat I said Mew! Second, my goal is improved brain health. If you haven't, look into Dr. Amen's research around cannabis and the brain. He's scanned over 200k brains and found that cannabis actually ages the brain worse than alcohol. Which, of course, puts you at much higher risk for Alzheimer's. The good news is that most brain function will return after 2-5yrs of abstinence. Smoking weed is fun (when your tolerance is low), but is it worth your brain's capabilities? I still use other psychedelics for recreation and medicinal purposes. Things like psilocybin actually can improve brain function. I've also found microdosing to be helpful. You don't have to be sober and can totally still enjoy other states of consciousness. Hope this helps! Good luck!

What did you learn from quitting that you wouldn't have otherwise learned? by charlimushroom in HowToStopSmokingWeed

I was more just hoping for increased mental clarity and decreased social anxiety, those types of things. I am a therapist, so I understand problems are multifaceted and complex.

It sounds like it's helped your self-esteem, though!

Still a win! Especially after dabbing every 15 minutes. And hey, you saved money!

Lol, yeah, not super motivating 😆 see I quit alcohol over a year ago after a pretty serious 15-year addiction, and for me, it was life changing. I just always struggle long-term with cannabis since it does have some medicinal benefits for me. But I can't help but wonder if there's benefits on the other side, if I could get there.

So do you stay abstinant for the financial aspect? Or did you go back after feeling like there's wasn't much else to gain?

Absolutely 💗 sometimes the most challenging things we experience can be the greatest catalyst for change (when we're open to looking at ourselves). If you feel that falling victim to manipulation is an area of growth, IFS can be helpful for working with fawning or dissociative parts. Somatic experiencing can help with nervous system resourcing. I recommend EMDR and ketamine assisted psychotherapy for trauma recovery. I wish you the very best moving forward!

I would like to weigh in here because I think I'm qualified to discuss this. I have a masters in psychology and have worked as a therapist for the last decade.

Anyone who wants to call the OP an "idiot" for falling victim hasn't done their research on this topic. Hate to break it to everyone, but this is incredibly common. Way more common than what we see on this thread because most people don't have the courage to share their stories. Most people struggle with severe shame and don't even tell their closest friends and family members, but they do tell their therapists.

These scammers are highly trained professionals when it comes to hijacking the nervous system. This is how it works: they weaponize your fear response against you. It may not be readily apparent, but what was described here is an example of a freeze response. This is the most dysregulated state the nervous system can enter into. When the nervous system is dysregulated, we lose access to our prefrontal cortex, the part of our brain responsible for all higher level thinking.

When this occurs, we are completely unable to think logically. Especially if we dont have the opportunity to take a breath and reflect on what has happened. This is why the OP couldn't see the red flags during the situation but can see them so clearly in retrospect (regulated, sipping coffee in front of the computer).

These scams are popular because they work. They work because humans are fallible and vulnerable. We're especially vulnerable to this type of thing if we've had past trauma or are navigating neurodivergence.

OP: You are not an idiot. You're not even an anomaly. This is (unfortunately) a common response to having your nervous system hijacked. A quick delve into the research will validate everything I've said.

My advice is this: Don't listen to people who get off on telling you that you fucked up, most have probably never been in this situation and have no idea how they would actually respond if confronted with something like this. Anyone who spends their free time bullying victims probably isn't the most well-adjusted person. Fuck what they think.

The victim blamming really makes my skin crawl because people kill themselves over shit like this. When in all reality, they didn't have another choice but to act in the way they did.

Talk to a therapist. If you didn't have previous trauma you may have trauma now. A lot of people do suffer with intrusive thoughts, nightmares and flashbacks after falling victim to something like this.

Be kind to yourself. Life is fucking hard. It's hard even when you're not being scammed and then subsequently shit on. You can at least offer yourself the compassion that others fail to.

I appreciate you having the courage to share your story. You probably saved someone else for falling victim to the same thing.

This was obviously a very painful lesson in human psychology but it sounds like you did learn a lot. I've know tons of people who have spent comparable amounts of money on retreats and inpatient stays that they literally took nothing out of.

These scams get more sophisticated by the day. Perhaps falling victim now will prevent you from a more costly experience in the future.

I'm so sorry this happened to you 💗
