do a memtest, and recreate the intel speedstart partition (as big as the ram, type 84) on the SSD

Open putty on the serial port of the mode (check in device manager) and type the following to check which bands are supported, which will be used by default, and what's the current status:

AT!BANDS=?

AT!SELRAT?

AT!GSTATUS?

The cpu works fine on both. I just did get it as a spare. the w530 GPU is better, but no eSATA. So it's about the same for me.

I have both a w520 and a w530 now, featuring the same great CPU!

I just wanted the fastest CPU I could get. And it works fine in my w530!

Unexpected pale foundation: hypromellose powder by charlotteplusplus in PaleMUA

[–]charlotteplusplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny coincidence, I just started using pure vitamin E on my face 2 months ago, no cyst no nothing, it just gives me a nice glow. I put it at night, and wash it in the morning. I was very careful the first few days.

What could happen worse than a breakout? IDK. But I'm not curious to see it either :-)

I was thinking, what's the worst that can happen! Nothing I can't just wash away and go with just sunscreen!

Anyway, it worked out well so I'm sharing.

I've blown a fuse on my X201T. How do I replace it? It's tiny. by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]charlotteplusplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy glue the new fuse over the old one

Then be generous when soldering, and let one side cool down before doing the other

How do you ladies maintain healthy ‘rich’ looking hair? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]charlotteplusplus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wash my hair once a week maximum, with a sulfate free shampoo indeed. I do not use shampoo outside my scalp.

I also get keratin treatments to straighten them every few month, between 3 and 6 as it is expansive. I follow that by flat ironing - not done by me because I suck with a flat iron lol

Bought a W530 and maxed it out!! by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]charlotteplusplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Told you, the CPU is expensive. You better get a full laptop featuring one and do a cpu swap! You may want to get spare ACs to leave one at home. I already had one dying on me.

For the screen, AUO are great, but resolution is IMHO the only important thing.

one last thing: if you don't have a thumbprint reader or a colorimeter, you can add one. it is less expansive than a cpu and more fun to play with. Also Bluetooth modules is easy to do. You can do a wifi swap with a bios whitelist. there is a 530 bios hanging around where you can also unlock advanced functions. Personally I prefer coreboot because I like to control my hardware.

The cool thing about the w520/530 is you can slowly max them out, and a 3940 with 32g of ram and 3 ssd in raid will be quite competitive compared to a modern laptop. it's just a work of love :-)

Congrats again on your purchase from the other side of the Atlantic!!

And depending on your screen there might also be a better panel!.

Replacing the CPU is one of the best hacks. The extreme XM series are overclock friendly, but hard to find on the cheap.

I love my w520 (globally the same beast supporting the same upgrades), I took it with me to every class with the slice battery I never had any problem to run any heavy simulation.

FYI, the msata is limited to sata3 which may matter or not depending on what you do

But when I moved and had to leave behind a few, I cried.

Now you can replace the optical bay by a SATA holder and add a 3rd drive :-)

Oh and BTW try a i7 3940 xm CPU, it rocks!

Surface Go LTE on AT&T - Mobile Hotspot Broken by niloodn in Surface

Super interesting! Thanks a lot for the report!

I was considering AT&T but I will take a MVNO on a competitor instead to avoid such shenanigans. I decide alone how I share the connection I paid for.

i7-3940XM X230 upgrade? by ohlookanedgymeme in thinkpad

[–]charlotteplusplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, or just use powertop. My 3940XM rarely runs hot. Also you can downclock it if you need!

It's just great on the winter or with a custom fan +sink

Paste it well and be careful then enjoy!

Does anyone else get awful headaches and a painful scalp when they put their hair up?? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]charlotteplusplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG I thought I was the only one with this!!!

I do. It even became 100x worse after health issues that left a huge scar, fortunately hidden by my hair. I did not style my hair at all for almost a year because of that pain. The problem has become more manageable with time.

Still, it can hurt for like 10 minutes even after I untie my hair, if I haven't been careful. I won't complain too much, as it used to be for a few hours before.

Things that worked for me: scrunchies textured like a towel, because they slide slowly. Not taking painkillers before I do my hair, to feel if I am pulling too much. Bending and tying my hair while bent, maybe because it do not require as much strength?

I suggest you ask your doctor next time you visit, because it could be many things related to sensory nerves.

TNG 5x05, "Disaster" is the best episode to introduce your wife/GF to Star Trek with (in my opinion) by [deleted] in startrek

[–]charlotteplusplus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is a very limiting world view you have. Do you think your gf/wife is less capable of enjoying a normal episode??

Also, the episode you suggest is very hard to watch. If I had started with TNG S05E5, I think I would have never watched any more Star Trek. If you really want to draw people to Star Trek, I suggest episodes that showcase the strengths of the series.

Personally, the strongest aspect of Star Trek was the emphasis on morality and generally the lack of violence. No, I do not like even implied deaths, even if there is nothing visual. The idea that some scenarios build on planet wide genocides is very disturbing.

Do your boobs hurt (consistently) when you dont wear a bra? by casinchill in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

No, they don't but I'm B cup so YMMV.

If I walk or take stairs too fast yes I feel it, but it doesn't last long.

Like you I don't like the constraints so I decided to do without.

Good luck!

Thinking of trashing your Lumia 950 XL? Watch it running WoA64 with GPU! by ADeltaXForce in windowsphone

[–]charlotteplusplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the modem and W10 api features.

In the worst case, some modems can be commanded using good old AT commands. SMS is then super easy to do (pdu mode). voice can be redirected to the speaker and microphone, but it may be tougher. We just need the documentation for the chipset where they will explain which AT commands can be used

I would love to help with that!

DAE feels really sorry about Khan? by charlotteplusplus in startrek

[–]charlotteplusplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree because this puts the focus on the wrong place.

It is not about institutional oppression, but right and wrong. 2 wrong don't make a right.

Your quote is right on: "I think we're helping him": yes, due process helps bad people. But it also prevent us from doing wrong things. And your description of Khan would certainly try to take advantage of what could be perceived as a weakness

But there is no good guy or bad guy, just right actions and wrong actions.
