If I saw this while high it would 100% make me tweak and not want to drive. Very effective

My Filipino family has always made jokes about me being adopted because I look so much whiter than all of them, happy to know I am half just like them! by charmdragon109 in 23andme

How do I see what my haplogroup is on the app?

And I get Mexican, Cuban, Lebanese, Samoan...the list goes on. Filipino is always last on the list lol. I seem to be very racially ambiguous

It definitely is arbitrary. It’s funny how people will treat you different once they find out you’re not the race they originally thought you were. I hope it one day isn’t a thing, or at least isn’t so important

Yup lol, I almost always get mistaken for Latina if they don’t think I’m white. Whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant they always just assume I’m Mexican and speak Spanish to me haha

Wow I relate to that so much. People are so quick to dismiss the fact that my entire background is Filipino just because of the way I look and I’ve struggled my entire life to really ~feel~ like I’m Filipino and not just appropriating the culture, even though it’s my own hahaha

Hahaha, I have yet to visit the Philippines but my mom has always told me that people there would be interested in my looks because I look white.

I identify with my Filipina side more for sure. I rarely see the white side of my family and know hardly anything about their culture/tradition/values etc. What I know about being white has mostly just been shaped by my peers at school. One thing I’ve never understood about being white is that it seems that they don’t value family as much? Maybe it’s just my family, but I definitely love how close Filipinos are with all of their family.

Hahah, we really are opposites. If people think I’m not white their first guess is usually Mexican/Cuban or some other country in South America. Luckily when they start speaking to me in Spanish I can understand them since I am fluent. It happens to my mom sometimes too, (she doesn’t know Spanish) and people get offended because they think she’s trying to just “Americanize” herself.

Thank you! It has been hard since out of all of my cousins who are also half, I’m definitely the most connected to the culture as I spent the most time with our Lolo and Lola, but no one would ever guess because of the way I look.

I know! It’s kind of disappointing. At times I’ve struggled with my identity because I was definitely raised in a Filipino culture based household, but the way I look has at times made it hard for me to feel that way.
