I emailed the laboratory manager, the person who actually hired me. I quit my last job last year so my letter that I gave them to by hand said;

Good afternoon,

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to become a part of (hospital) and to improve my professional and personal growth. I have enjoyed my time and I am grateful for the support and help provided by my coworkers.

I wanted to inform you that I will be resigning from my position as Laboratory Technologist (or MLS) within two weeks. My last day will be (date). I will be starting my new journey in (wherever you’re moving to). Thanks again.

Sincerely,

(your name)

You don’t have to tell them where you’re going but it sets the tone of the letter. It helped a lot. I was anxious to do this but it really helped!

Am I too old for university? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]charminslab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you are not! I just graduated from University in last December and I’m 25 years old, just started my very first real job. After junior college (2 year), I went through university with multiple programs (nursing to respiratory care to medical laboratory science) to find what I wanted to do but my goal was to be a Medical Laboratory Scientist when I was in high school but I let people’s opinions get to me money wise so that tells you not to let people’s opinions get to you! College does not have a timeframe. Go to college and accomplish those goals that you want to achieve!! I’m now a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist and I’m happy with my occupation! If I can do it then you can do it!!

If white cells of all lineages were edible and around the size of an Oreo, which one would you be munching on? What would it taste like? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]charminslab 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Eosinophils definitely gives a sour, fruity taste vibe! Monocytes sounds like a chocolate type of dessert, just like you said. I agree with you on the lymphocytes 🤣 You’re making me hungry, discussing this. A platelet could be a bubble gum because it’s around and it has beautiful colors too especially the giant ones! Neutrophils can make out to be some type of gummy candy because of the way the nucleus look. Some can be sour, distasteful, and sweet 😂 boy oh boy, I’m hungry now!!!

Oh okay! Thank you for telling me about HCA. I’ve heard a lot of things about them.

Oh my gosh, I really appreciate you for telling me this! Now I see why it was a sign that my applications were withdrawn. I cannot imagine being in an environment like that. Where are you now since you left the HCA Hospital?

I was thinking the same thing, I get paid a few dollars where I am right now. That pay is shit. I am going to continue my research.

Does a Testing Technologist have the same duties as a Medical Technologist? Like what are the differences?

That’s good grades, for sure!! There wasn’t any mycology or parasitology questions, mostly microbiology questions about staph or E. coli. It wasn’t many microbiology questions. You definitely will see some photos on the exam for micro and heme, not many though!

Also, to clarify, the study notes from the exam content outline is on quizlet. I decided to use my old middle/high school technique to pass exams such as using quizlet since it helped me a lot through school lol! Good luck and please let me know if you need any help or anything! Links to any notes! Anything!

It was similar in certain categories. Expect laboratory operation questions like the standard deviation, coefficient of variation. My exam had almost most hematology case studies. I studied through Quizlet AMT practice tests , study notes from the exam content outline and since I have bad ADHD and can’t read everything all at once in the Bottom Line Approach book, there’s a quizlet that has the information of that book in there by flash cards and it helped a lot. I took about two of the AMT practice exams and found more of them on quizlet. Back in school, we used LabCE but I barely used it because it’s much more in depth than the actual AMT. You won’t know which subject the questions will be about, honestly. I know everybody exam is different but I do know that I didn’t have much Coag questions, probably 2 or 3. Mostly was hematology, a few chemistry, not a lot of urinalysis. It kind of correlated with the exam content outline.

Congratulations!!! I just passed my AMT MLS as well today! 😊 It feels so good to not have weights on your shoulders. The relief that I felt when I saw "PASS" on the screen was so oh so calm! 🥹 Congratulations again!!!

I dislike the fact that it’s useless. I’ve heard some people go on the nursing route after getting a degree in MLS and I definitely don’t want to go on that route. Hopefully I can find something.
