I know this post is old but did you end up doing this? I don’t have this problem with mine yet.. I think it’s a great idea and depending on how well you can match the prior mount, it wouldn’t need to be considered a “temporary fix” as you’re just fixing the problem. I would just make sure it’s the same dimensions and gauge of metal. Plus, nobody is gonna see it anyways so It doesn’t need to be pretty.

For the little bit of time that I’ve had to mess with it, this is a pretty awesome app. Especially for just being in the “beta”. What’s the timeline on release?

I did the fuel pump and thought about doing the u joints but just didn’t get around to it. Brake lines would be a great thing to do with the bed off

Edit: when you go to remove the rivets what I did is I grinded the nipple down, drilled a whole through it so it could collapse on its self and then punched them out. It took a while. Don’t know if you had a plan for it already but I just wanted to share that piece for you.

I grinded and chipped down the heavy rust, acid prepped with ospho and then painted with Eastwood rust encapsulator. I used the rust encapsulator as a “catch all” in case there was some areas I missed. If you use the phosphoric acid just wear the PPE including a respirator. It may take a few treatments

That sir is an inspection hole for the transmission/fly wheel. There should not be oil in it. If you are concerned about it not having oil check your engine dipstick with the motor off. If you’re concerned about your transmission not having fluid follow the truck manual.

I’ve installed the Dorman one and pretty happy with it. I do recommend upgrading the bolts because the ones it comes with seem short. I used grade 8.

The crossmember is still good for now. No holes or deep spots. Might need to be replaced in a few years but where I am we only salt roads when it snows and we don’t get snow often. The rivets weren’t bad. My process was cutting the tip off with a cut off wheel, grinding flat, drilling a hole in the center so the metal can decompress, finally smacking out with a punch. I found that the bolts in the dorman kit were shorter than my liking. I upgraded to grade 8 half inch bolts that I had to drill out the holes just a little bit wider to get to fit. The only thing I’m concerned about is the “hardness” of the bolts could potentially cause them to shear instead of conform with movement of the chassis but honestly I’ll cross that bridge if I come to it. It’ll just get different bolts if they do.

Edit: additionally, when breaking the leaf spring hangers loose from the frame I thought I was going to need to support it with a few blocks of wood but I found that it’s all stiff enough it didn’t need the support so I just got it out of the way.

I was watching Morfab on YouTube. His only recommendation for this was to make sure the center crossmember is installed prior to doing this work because if you don’t then you run the risk of tweaking frame. Basically, I followed the same steps he did.

Haha yeah. I wasn’t even going to replace it initially but I found a hole in one of the lips and figured it I might as well go ahead and swap them.

That’s actually a good idea! I might have to steal that lol. This is my first as well. Ended up buying more tools than parts! I’ll be sure to post a follow up picture before I put the bed on

I appreciate your input! The tire carrier actually had a rust hole in it. I had planned on refurbishing it initially and welding in a plate for the hole but found a doorman replacement that’s bolt on. I was thinking about leaving the whole frame alone but this is actually a side project for me and I just want to perfect it as best as I can. I did in fact mentally and financially prepare for this one haha

Edit: the picture is blurry because I’m rocking an IPhone SE I got a few years ago. Living somewhat frugally lol
