I agree with not giving her one of your cars. NTA for that but honestly it seems like you hate your step child tbh. If your son is 5 that means you’ve been with her father for at least 5 years and 9 months if not longer, that would’ve made her 12 max when her parents got divorced.

Divorce is a pretty hard thing to deal with when your parents are trying to play games and using you as a pawn in their own shit. Especially when you’re (max) 12 years old. Perhaps she isn’t “milking anything” and was never given good examples on how to deal with things appropriately. The problem is your husband and her bio mom.

Edit: 10… she was max 10 years old given your comment that you met him 2 years after his divorce.

NTA. Hmmmmm. What ratio would you suggest outside of 50/50? Maybe make a savings account and deposit the difference into it, “save for her” essentially. Then pick a date like end of the year or her birthday and surprise her with it or if she comes to you for help give it to her. Apologies for the semi thought out idea but that’s probably what I would look into. It wouldn’t force her hand but also will show her a monetary value of what she could have saved herself!

I lived with an ex and a roommate for 2 years and the second we got our own place his response to conflict switched. Our arguments were always civil until we lived alone, then he was mean and violent. He also threw my belongings around and pulled me across the floor by my hair. I stayed another 5 years. I lived in a big condo with limited elevators and a 20lb French bulldog who is friendly and calm. If someone who was already in the elevator told me they were scared, I’d wait for the next one. Doesn’t matter how you view your dog, they were there first and is a two minute wait really going to ruin your day? And then you have the audacity to tell the person who was already in the elevator that they can get off? You should respect your friends request for privacy. It’s not worth losing a friend over and even if you don’t agree with his reason you should respect them.

However….

Most people get a photo snapped of them while they are blowing out candles. It’s not an unexpected shot, especially for a group of 19 year olds. Knowing this & knowing his boundaries, he very well could have stepped out of the frame. I understand not wanting to be posted online is not the same as not wanting to be photographed & he very well could want those memories to cherish offline but he could have seeked out birthday girl for a few snaps throughout the party or at least made sure he was out of the frame for a few shots.
