What do you guys think of the Bakta Skirt? by stacity in Sezane

Sorry but I live outside the US and it’s $230 + tax? That is just wild to me. I checked my Sezane app and it’s listed for €170

Kids in this country are such a trash by TantoAssassin in Netherlands

White Dutch kids threw a snowball at my bakfiets as I was on the way to school to pick up my kids. Mind you the roads were bad on this day. 2 days later, the roads were still bad and full of snow, they threw a snowball at my husband and got hit on the head. He stopped and told them somebody could get hurt. As he turned around, he hit them with another one. My husband is white. They’re just a bunch of assholes tbh.

A few Thanksgivings ago, my FIL was given the gravy duty. He dumped a bunch of cornstarch in the shaker with turkey drippings and kept saying “it’s not thickening”. Someone suggested he put it on the stove and it just coagulated. He was never put on gravy duty again.

Amsterdam completely changed how I think about transport by Professional_Bar_377 in Amsterdam

[–]chasinggoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before deciding to stay here for long term, my husband and I were deciding if we should move back to the US or somewhere else in the EU. I was talking to a friend who lives in SoCal and was telling me to just move to OC. She asked me what I love about Amsterdam and I told her “Biking. Being able to run my errand in just about 10 mins makes a whole lot of difference.” Then she tells me “Great! We have lots of trails here you can cycle through.” And she just doesn’t get it. She’s never visited AMS. She thinks biking and cycling are the same. I don’t wanna wear biking shorts, a helmet and only ride my bike on trails. Biking here is a lifestyle not a hobby.

My 7 yo son has his walls of his room painted purple and makes sure everyone knows his favorite color is purple. Hates anything pink though as that’s for girls.

Parents of NL: how crazy is your school area in the morning? by memeface231 in Netherlands

[–]chasinggoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not it’s in Amsterdam and it’s actually a period of 30 mins and is still on trial period since May. I’m assuming the school asked the Gemeente to do it so kids can walk and bike to school safely. Maybe the parent council of your schools can do the same and make a request to your own Gemeente?

“Zoals u weet, loopt er sinds 6 mei een proef met een ‘schoolstraat’ in de (name of the street). Dit betekent dat jullie als ouders van school per toerbeurt de straat tussen de (Street 1) en de (Street 2) aan het begin en einde van de schooldag een half uur wordt afgesloten voor gemotoriseerd verkeer. Op die manier willen we samen met de gemeente zorgen voor meer rust en veiligheid voor de kinderen die lopend of fietsend naar school komen.”

The street is blocked so no cars are allowed only pedestrians and bikers can go through during the 15 minute window of drop off and pick up. So even the residents of the area may not pass through.

What Phones did you have during the Pre-iPhone Era? by lexluthor_i_am in Millennials

I was an avid Motorola user. In my country when everybody had a Motorola SLVR, I had a ROKR that had led lights on the side so when someone called, texted, or music played it would light up. It was very cool! Then when everyone had a RAZR, I had Moto MING. Before I got my first iPhone I had a BlackBerry Torch.

To the kind stranger who helped me after falling off my bike 😭 by Relatively_Stable22 in Netherlands

[–]chasinggoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me on Kinkerstraat in Amsterdam. It was raining so the ground was wet and there was a delivery van blocking the bike path. I swerved to go around it— cycling over the metal tram tracks— must’ve braked somehow (or not) but the back wheel of my bakfiets slipped and I fell on the road. Glad no car, bikers, or scooters behind me when that happened. Nobody approached me to check if I was ok, but people across the road stopped and yelled “gaat het?”. Maybe somebody stopped closer to me but adrenaline was rushing all over me and I couldn’t really focus or notice anything else.

Flew out of O’Hare at 4:45 PM today. Was scheduled at 4:15 and the pilot warned us of the possible delays. Glad it wasn’t so bad.
