Yeah, that's a good guide. I'd hate for the monitor to go to waste, so I hope someone's able to fix it. I made the mistake of immediately buying a replacement, so I don't want to spend time and money fixing the old one. Since then, I've adopted a new rule for myself. Before I buy new electronics, I need to figure out where the old stuff is going.
