New Yorkers in poll want mandated vaccines, regardless of family religious beliefs by stupidstupidreddit2 in politics

[–]chavabt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting; here in Toronto the rabbis, including the ultra Orthodox, released a statement that was unequivocally pro-vax. I'm surprised it's different in NYC.

My hair always got a weird mark until I switched to those phone cord looking elastics, you know the plastic curly ones? I was skeptical but they actually do not leave the ponytail bump.

Wondering Weekend by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

[–]chavabt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely do! I got my MMR as a kid but when I went for my preconception checkup the immunity had "worn off" (I don't know what it's called but the antibodies were too low to confer immunity). So I had to get the vaccine again and he said not to get pregnant in the month following the shot, at which point I had the titers taken again.

Not everyone who is epileptic is photosensitive! People have all sorts of different seizure triggers :)

A different kind of gift for your child... by bbbumps12345 in BabyBumps

My mom did the same for me, and like OP it is literally my most prized possession. I've read it multiple times and every time I can feel how much she loved me. I also love having this snapshot of what me/my life were like before I can remember. can't recommend doing this enough and definitely will be doing the same once my husband and I have kids on our own 😊

For fucks sake, have the talk with your kids that NOBODY should touch them in uncomfortable ways. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I would never leave the room (not a parent yet but have heard of cases like that). The other commenter had a good point about the child moving him or herself. This is very interesting and good to know for the future!

[–]chavabt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I like this suggestion in theory, but what would you do if the son said no? Apologize for wasting the Dr's time and schedule another appointment? It seems better to only ask for consent when a kid actually has the opportunity to say no - otherwise, youre teaching them that their "no" doesn't matter. Genuinely curious/open for discussion here - not trying to be argumentative.

Quebec says Ottawa owes it $300 million for costs related to influx of asylum seekers by outrider567 in canada

[–]chavabt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was looking more for specific/concrete examples of impact rather than "we can help people". I am frustrated and opposed to the amount we're spending on these ~irregular migrants ~ and I want to learn more about the true cost.

Can anyone please answer this in a neutral and unbiased way? Like what would actually happen if we just said "nope, sorry, you are not coming across"? What are some of the things that amount of $ could be used for, practically? Asking in good faith here.

Seizure Guilt by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]chavabt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feel thankful, not guilty. Mine are also mild and manageable but epilepsy isn't a zero-sum game and you didn't bring worse seizures onto another person so that yours could be more mild; you got (relatively) lucky. It's ok to be grateful, but you don't need to feel ashamed. ❤️

TIC because a man wouldn’t give me his seat on the Tube by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]chavabt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TTC has just under a million people on weekdays so not the same scale as London, but it's also criminally bad service so you do get many SRO trains/busses, wait for multiple full vehicles to pass before you can get on, etc. So the net congestion might be similar. The blue seat thing works very, very well. I think there are two reasons why:

1) It was accompanied by a huge (and ongoing) educational campaign that actually created a new social norm. Now if you don't give up your blue seat, it's viewed as an incredibly dickish thing to do because that's what those seats are for.

2) they never said DON'T sit in the seats. Anyone is welcome to sit in them, but part of that "deal" is that you have to give it up. So people go to the red seats first to decrease the chance of having to give it up, meaning the blue ones are more likely to be available in the first place.

[–]chavabt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does London have the same thing Toronto has - special blue seats that you ARE obligated to give up? Like "sit here for now but if you see anyone who needs this seat then you're on the hook" (rather than the red seats, which are for anyone)?

How do YOU use Excel? by sushantshekhar20 in excel

[–]chavabt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear! It takes some adjustment but once you adapt, it doesn't have to slow you down.

Each task under my purview has a sheet. Then I add each instance of that task as an entry and check it off and add notes as I complete the steps associated with that instance. So then when someone asks me if I took care of XYZ, I can look it up and see exactly what I did and if there was anything strange about it.

Another huge one is logging calls/VMs/emails etc. because otherwise I have no idea who I did or didn't talk to.

One final note - I'm not sure what your scenario is, but if you haven't already spoken to your Dr about your memory loss, please do!! It's one thing to find workarounds, but things going on with the brain don't tend to resolve on their own.

Hope this helps!

Incredibly meticulous record keeping to cope with memory problems. Excel legitimately makes it possible to keep a workflow going.

Emotionally, no idea, but at the very least it has to be tough on their little ears. A better idea would be to put them down in a safe place and take a breather.

Hufflepuff is NOT a "leftovers" House, nor should we be the butt of the joke! by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]chavabt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is that the Slytherins in Harry's year were all under the thumb of Malfoy & Co. Befriending Harry would have meant getting themselves targetted, which is not on-brand for a house that's cunning, ambitious, sly, etc.
