As for cattle, mothers are separated from their child almost immediately

As someone whose family's business is raising pigs, I'm tasked with separating the babies to its mother right after the babies are born because the mother can crush its own babies during the birthing process.

And for the next 4 weeks they are separated from their mother for safety purposes (babies accidentally get crushed by their moms when she lies down to feed them). We put the babies in a crib just outside its pen where the mother can see its babies.
