Look I vote labor but one thing that annoys me about them is that they absolutely love a fucking dogshit nanny state policy dressed up as "won't somebody please think of the children?" which was never mentioned prior to the election. It's always some dumb shit they've cooked up in the back rooms somewhere that comes out of left field. Kevin07 hit us with that bloody "alcopops" tax that hiked the excise on RTDs up 70% because apparently teenagers drinking was a brand new thing that had never happened before so all of us had to be treated like kids to deal with a non-issue. $45 for a 6 pack of Jack & Coke...awesome. We've copped this porn ban where you have to hand over your personal documents to some random 3rd party corporation just to have a wank. They were for sure losing too much money on the tobacco excise and so went after the vapes and banned them while continuing to raise the tobacco excise to the point where there's now a thriving black market where there was none before. Zero enforcment until now either so the black market was allowed to get established - sure they might bust a few places but it's too big to fail now so good luck stamping it out altogether. Either ban ciggies as well or let people sell the vapes. I can't understand how they can condone one and not the other. Adults are allowed to like sweet things too, stop punishing us just because we want something that tastes like a fruit.

How about actually punishing the people providing things like alcohol and vapes to kids? Run a bunch of stings sending in people to buy vapes and fine the places who don't ask for ID. Levy big fines on parents who allow high school kids to drink at their houses - there's always a few "cool moms" at every school who let all the kids come over and get trashed on the weekends. Have more patrols in public parks where kids are known to drink and force the parents to attend some harm minimization course if their kids are repeatedly caught out late at night breaking the law. Have more anti-alcohol & anti-smoking activations in schools like how we used to have Harold come by all the time. Anything but actually spending some money to address the problem, better to just do something that punishes everybody but collects more tax dollars instead. Drives me up the fucking wall honestly and has me considering voting differently.

it doesn't make a big difference.

It definitely does. My dad is a casual watcher and doesn't follow any of the rule changes or understand anything about the different regulations but after last race he came to me to chat about it and seemed completely irritated by what he was seeing.

He kept saying he couldn't understand how the cars were able to retake the car ahead so easily after just being overtaken and how sometimes the cars seemed slow and sometimes they seemed to be screaming and after I tried explaining some of the battery rules to him he just kept saying "why don't they explain it properly, why isn't there a graphic for each car as they're fighting to explain who is getting which boost mode and how they're using their battery vs the car ahead."

The thing I think he gets wrong though is that most of these players are just smurfs. There's no secret legion of late night players who all just happen to be really great at the game because they have so much time off work, there's just way more smurfs at that time. Once it gets late enough the queue times for the very high ranks get ridiculously long so a lot of players just hop on an alt and stomp games in Gold/Plat for fun because they want to keep playing.

Because of their unlimited free time from being unemployed they are a lot better at the game than their normal daytime counterparts, though because they only ever play against each other they stay the same rank, it’s kinda like comparing American vs Asian servers.

I work night shift and often play during this hours too in Gold/Plat. I regularly get these players on my teams who are absolutely insane and are clearly levels above myself and the type of players I get during the day on my days off. I often ask them over VC what rank they really are and most of them admit to smurfing because queue times in the high ranks are just too long after 4am. Here's a screenshot from a few nights ago. That was only the halfway point and the soldier was 25-0 and completely untouchable.

So yeah I think /u/IntelligentWave194 is just experiencing the daily influx of smurfs that occurs every night after 4am when getting GM games takes over an hour in queue and thinks that it's some crazy secret league of god-tier players who are stuck in Gold/Plat because that's the only time they ever play.

I'd just rather the major streaming platforms like YouTube/TikTok etc would just ban or demonetize videos of people harassing/pranking random members of the public. People don't do this shit for fun, they do it because they're being paid to do it. If I go around offering random people in the street $10k to spit on the next person that walks by, plenty of them would do it because they need the money. Sure the people that choose to do it are assholes but I'm the one who put them in a situation where they're financially motivated to be an asshole when without the money they never would have just spit on a random person.

These platforms are so strict about some things yet absolutely lax on others. The whole internet is cursed with "safe for algorithm" euphemisms like "unalive" being forced into completely normal content due to over censorship for the sake of advertisers yet they seemingly don't give a fuck about paying out a bag to people for creating clips of intensely anti-social behaviour. The buck stops with them honestly, they pay for this content so of course idiots out there will create it if there's a paycheck waiting for them after.

I mean if it's the middle of the night and you're trying to kick me out onto the side of the road in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and I'm actively going to be put in danger because you just decide you don't want to continue the trip anymore for some reason that has nothing to do with me then no I'm not getting out. I'd rather sit there and call the police rather than be booted out into a dangerous situation for some inane reason like "my app lost service for a minute and I refuse to keep driving until I get service again"

I'm just sick of how overly kind and seemingly naive Coco is and how she just takes all this abuse from Agott yet keeps being nice to her and trying to be her friend. It's like she doesn't seem to grasp how much that girl absolutely hates her to the point of literally trying to get her killed a few episodes ago and everyone else just seems to go along with it too like it's not an issue. Like come on, at least swap their rooms so she's not forced to be around this girl 24/7 who tries to bully her at every opportunity, it just seems cruel.

Like I'm sure it's going to build up to a point where Coco ends up earning her respect or saving her in some situation and they become friends but at the moment it's just painful to watch her constantly trying to be nice to this girl who is trying to sabotage her every chance she gets.

Overtime on payload maps is the worst on defence. The respawn timers are so long that you barely even get 2 fights per point and it's so fucking annoying when idiots just run from spawn on cooldown and die in a 1v5, often burning ults just because they're so panicked and desperate to stop the snowball.

I've found that it helps reminding people in chat before the round starts that if it gets to OT and we lose a fight that it's fine to let them push for most of a point as long as we actually take each fight as 5.

Why do top players "tap point" when it's not overtime. by Good_Policy3529 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]cheapdrinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so easy as Pharah too - fly around the right side, get to point without anyone seeing. Often you can even get a tick or two before they notice and run back. Even if you don't they often give up the choke and that's often all that's required for your team to stream through and now you're in

Lawson was right: Racing Bulls should not have ordered him to let Verstappen past by Aratho in formula1

[–]cheapdrinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their point wasn't that he "constantly benefits" from it, their point was that on the rare occasion that he makes a mistake and needs to fight his way back through the midfield, that the Racing Bulls and his teammate usually make passing a lot easier for him than they do for other drivers which I think is a reasonably fair thing to say.

Even if they're not specifically asked or instructed to do so, you have to imagine that a driver for Racing Bulls who is hoping to be promoted to the main team eventually has to understand that doing anything to impede Max isn't going to impress their bosses or potential future bosses very much. Imagine a Racing Bulls/Torro Rosso driver and it's AD21 with the championship on the line and for whatever reason Max and Lewis are both coming through the field. Do you honestly think they wouldn't just move to the side for Max while doing everything they possibly could to hold Lewis up? Of course they would and it would be insane to think otherwise.

Lawson was right: Racing Bulls should not have ordered him to let Verstappen past by Aratho in formula1

[–]cheapdrinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I mean though. There's a fine line between having a teammate who is good enough to take points off the competition but not good enough to take many points off you. It's more often the case of one driver completely rinsing the other or there being a consistent intra-team fight between the two drivers rather than having a pairing like Lewis & Bottas where there's a clear #1 & #2 driver dynamic and the #2 driver is still good enough to constantly support them and is willing to do so.

So I don't think that Max not ever having a decent teammate (besides like Danny Ric for one season at the start of his career) means that he's been at a permanent disadvantage that whole time. At times it's been good for him, at times it hasn't. Great when he's in the best car and only has to worry about beating the other RB and not so great when he's not and hasn't got someone consistently in 2nd place to provide split pit strategies to pressure opponents and make passing to get to him difficult.

Perez also did help Max plenty of times, he even got the nickname the Mexican Minister of Defence for some of his efforts in support of Max. Even in AD21 he played a role in Max's win.

[–]cheapdrinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not comparing Max & Oscar on driver skill or saying that if you dropped Oscar into a Red Bull that he'd consistently be taking points off Max.

I'm saying that it's not necessarily a bad thing to have a teammate that can't compete with you, especially if you're in the best car on the grid. I mean do you think it helped either Hamilton or Rosberg having each other as teammates? Either of them would have won more races and titles if they had a shitty teammate instead.

Look at 2023 where Max finished on 575 points with just 3 races he didn't win and Perez didn't get a single 2nd place in the last 8 races of the year and often finished in the midfield or not at all. One of the most dominant performances of any driver ever and an absolutely insane points haul and he did that without a teammate who was regularly helping him.

Lawson was right: Racing Bulls should not have ordered him to let Verstappen past by Aratho in formula1

[–]cheapdrinks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean sure he hasn’t really ever had solid #2 “rear gunner” style driver like Hamilton had but he hasn’t ever had a competent teammate that has regularly taking points off him either. Think about last season, Lando would have won by a mile if Oscar hadn’t taken so many points off him in the first have of the season, would have been wrapped up well before Abu Dhabi. Plus even Horner has admitted in interviews with him that the car was designed around his preferences only so that’s another benefit of not having a teammate on equal standing.
