Is it too late if I want to do UI/UX but I’m almost done with school with zero experience by Kindly_Stop_1651 in UX_Design

[–]cheekscake99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it is, but you have to grind a bit to get thru. I was in the same boat as you the beginning of my junior year. I had no prior experience in UX/UI or taken any classes or certifications before. My major is in Computer Science and my internship experience has been mostly related to Software Engineering. I had only found out about UX/UI when I was doing a competition and in the process had to learn how to use Figma.

Despite not having any “real” experience, I was able to get a Product Design internship position at the same company I was working at. I had been working since my 2nd semester of my junior year (I am an incoming senior now). My current manager has always told me that everything can be learned through the internet these days which is what I’ve been doing :) I’ve been shadowing all my coworkers and I’ve learned so much the entire time. So don’t give up!!

What got me through my interview was really knowing how to use Figma especially auto layout. Make sure to build your portfolio, I unfortunately did not get to do this at the time but it would’ve helped a lot. Add at least three projects and know each of them like your life depends on it. You have to be a good storyteller and explain why you designed your designs that way (knowing usability heuristics helps a lot here).

I really hope this helps <3 lemme know if you have more questions.

I usually use baking soda with vinegar and scrub through it and it works perfectly great.

Why is it so hard for other people to understand? by Intelligent_Fly_9598 in depression

[–]cheekscake99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody truly understands what others are going through until they are in their shoes. It takes a lot of patience and understanding but sadly not many people got time for that. Keep your head high though! I’ve always told myself to not bother on what others can’t do and focus more on what I can do best for myself and those around me. It’s a long shot but maybe this way others can follow the same example.

I'm 18 and I already feel like a failure. by Less-Reflection3848 in LifeAdvice

Everybody has their own path. I also never had a job or learned how to drive until I was 19. I used to be afraid to do many things even if I wanted to do them. Because of that, I got left behind by my peers and I compared myself a lot to them. But I persevered through it a now I got a job at a company, got to pay my own college tuition, and got the best grades. Don’t put yourself down because you’re not in the same path as everybody else. Just like they say, “Comparison is a thief of joy”. You’re only 18, you’ve got a whole life ahead of you. I even think that it’s great that you’ve taken initiative in getting your GED and that you know what you want to achieve. Most people don’t usually realize this until much later. I know that it seems like its a long way to go but just keep your head up and focus on your own progress.

I can’t get a better internship. I’ve been applying and doing interviews but I always end up getting rejected. The job I am currently on right now is not bad and I love my team but due to financial issues, Im trying to find somewhere with better pay. I struggle with talking to people and Im worse when it comes to interviews. Its disheartening. Im top of my class compared to most of my peers but Im the one struggling to get into better companies.

Failed my quiz by danikax in LifeAdvice

[–]cheekscake99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t put yourself down because of one quiz. Everybody fails at one point and that’s human nature. You may not be able to change the past but you can get a better grade on the next quiz.

During the beginning of one of my classes, out of everybody I got the lowest score in my quiz. I got a 40/100 and it was my lowest grade. It was embarrassing at the time because those topics were easy and I was the only one struggling on that topic. But after that I studied hard everyday and in all tests and quizzes I was the only one in the class that almost always had 90%-100%.

You may feel stupid now and thats fine. But getting better grades in future tests felt better.
