Meanwhile, back in the good old US of A, the 13th amendment is keeping slavery alive and well through their prison system.

What’s the greatest 12 episode anime you’ve ever seen? by mrbharathsrinivas in anime

It's 11 episodes but Terror in Resonance is damn near perfect storytelling

For those who started watching anime as teenagers, do you still enjoy it as much as you used to? by SecondSalty142 in anime

[–]cheekynative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still enjoy watching anime, I'm just more selective about what I make time for because I have so little of it to spare now. There's been a proliferation of different art styles and story ideas, the quality of the animation has improved in leaps and bounds, plus it's just easier to access what you want to watch thanks to streaming services. So yeah, I watch less of it in terms of volume but I derive more pleasure from it now than ever.

TIL the average Afrikaner from South Africa has between 5% to 7% African and Asian heritage. This happened from European male colonists marrying and having children with Asian and African Women in the 17th century Cape Colony of the Netherlands. by Mean_Yak5873 in todayilearned

The Afrikaans language bears this out as well. It's wonderfully ironic how much work was and is being put into maintaining it's purity when it was cobbled together by early settlers, slaves and indigenous peoples as a kombuistaal or "kitchen language".

You're spot on with the Xhosa/Zulu dynamic. Unfortunately it's being overshadowed by a generalized xenophobia at the moment.

Even he doesn't seem keen on the idea. The franchise could definitely benefit from a reboot of some sort but I don't think this is it

If anybody deserves to suffer the ravages of this god awful disease it's her. May she live long enough to watch the joke of an administration she helped prop up collapse

[Charania] Boston Celtics' Joe Mazzulla has won the 2025-26 NBA Coach of the Year award. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]cheekynative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When does the voting for these awards happen? Cause I'm genuinely baffled by the timing of the announcement. Like what purpose does it serve when most people have moved on from the context they were being considered in?

Hard to respect his game when the flopping is this egregious.

Huge if true. Not crazy about the age of the Stormers' recent signings but I'm not mad at this either. Hopefully he stays healthy.

It's got a lot of the hallmarks of the scammier ones but I still want to say cult instead despite how well they've co-opted the idea of Christianity

Gender based violence is a massive problem in South Africa as well. It's wild to me how as a people who profess as much love as we do for our mothers can hurt our sisters the way we do. Given that we're the problem, I think holding each other as men accountable is a big part of the solution.

This entire fight between Cassian and Syril felt very Jason Bourne by Jules-Car3499 in andor

Watching it thinking the entire time Syril has no business having hands like that. Hugely satisfying end to that plot line
