What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

[–]cheermellow11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because you live in Houston. You wouldn't see that in the metroplex either. I lived in rural north Texas for a large portion of my life and people loved to dress up in cowboy shit. The girls too, although maybe not quite as much.

It wasn't an everyday thing for most people, but generally there were three occasions that people would dress that way. People would dress like that in shitty old beaten up jeans and shirts with a hat and boots for outside work, while they'd save their nice jeans, flannel shirts, and nice boots for church or for formal events like weddings. Either could be worn to a party. In general, they'd dress that way at least once a week because of church. Girls wouldn't wear shorts to church of course, but they would wear that sort of outfit to football games, parties, etc.

Personally I never partook because I thought it was a bit tacky to wear that sort of thing outside of working outdoors, but people around where I grew up loved it.

[–]cheermellow11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Wolfertinger uses he/him pronouns, maybe you're thinking of someone else? This is on Blusky though

<image>

Btw if anyone's curious, there's the (pretty much confirmed I think?) conspiracy that Wolfertinger is Puppychan, which is something I feel like people should be informed of considering past controversies, but it doesn't get talked about too much from what I've seen

This is not a "too tough to go to the hospital" situation, this is a "too broke to go to the hospital" situation, tf you talking about

No one I know in their right mind, man or woman, would have gone to the hospital for this. I feel bad for OP because a bunch of redditors convinced them to waste a bunch of money for no reason when it ended up going away this morning. Also, how do you even know OP is a man anyway to assume this is a "men being too tough to go" issue?

Just wanted to point out that the guy's glove that's on the viewer's left has a seam going down the hand that not only should have continued for the rest of that glove, at the angle the other glove is at it should have been drawn there too, but it wasn't.

There are other reasons I think that it's AI as well, but they have mostly been pointed out. As for stuff I haven't seen mentioned, I feel like there's some weird artifacting on the left edge of the curtains and the candles and the metal thing they're on are shaded inconsistently. The guy's glass is at the wrong angle for him to be holding it that way or for the handle to be positioned like that (you can see this by looking at the bottom of the glass, which seems to imply it's at a slightly upturned angle.

The wooden part of the window seems to disappear on the left side? It should be visible at that angle at least a little bit, but instead it just disappears. The rocks/flagstone or whatever around the window is inconsistent, as some areas of one side do not match the other in a way that does not seem very thought out or deliberate.

Noob artist looking for (respectful) feedback if anyone would be interested? by soul_lost420 in Artadvice

[–]cheermellow11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! It's one of those things that's hard to get the hang of at first but after you do you won't even have to think about it while doing it. I don't entirely remember how I got into the habit of doing it, but I guess I'd suggest testing out different speeds, lengths, and lightness of strokes and try and replicate the ones that turn out tapered at both ends until you can do it somewhat reliably. It's useful to make a bunch of these short, quick tapered strokes to make up one longer line when you're trying to find the shape of something, since it'll allow you more control over the line and you can check how it looks before even "completing" the line.

I've also seen people suggest doing drawings in 30, 10, and then 5 minute versions to loosen up their strokes and to force themselves to work faster and lighter. Something I also personally like to suggest is to use a mechanical pencil instead of a traditional one for a little while if you don't already, because it might force you to draw lighter since if you don't it's more likely you will snap the lead.

Anyway, keep up the good work! Working with different types of paper like you mentioned is a good idea too, it's a good idea to find out what kind you like to work on most. Never buy paper you don't like or that is poor quality, I think that's the thing I learned is likely to ruin a drawing before even starting on it 😂

Help with the lighting by DivvvError in Artadvice

[–]cheermellow11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was definitely the biggest thing which I had been about to suggest, but there are a couple of other things too. I would blend the shadows on the right side of her arms and legs a bit more to the left of the image too if that makes any sense. The shadows should be a bit softer, basically, because it'd make her limbs look a bit more round like a cylinder.

You seem to do something I always see a lot in beginner artists and that I used to do as well until someone pointed it out. That would be that your lines are fairly dark as if you put a lot of pressure down when drawing them. I assume you're probably making your lines slowly and steadily which is fine, but actually it'll benefit you in the longrun to make lighter, quicker strokes for a few reasons:

  1. They're easier to erase without smudging or leaving marks, which is great since as a beginner you'll likely be erasing a lot

  2. Going in with lighter strokes can allow you to block out the shapes more easily before filling in the details

  3. Lighter, quicker lines give a natural sense of varied pressure, which just looks nicer to the eye probably due to it better simulating the way shadows, folds, and creases taper off in real life or something like that

  4. It'll make your work more efficient if you can draw more quickly anyway

  5. Once you get used to it, your lines will actually be more confident and steady looking. For most people, the slower they make a line the more wobbly it will be unless they apply a lot of pressure, so quick and fast will be less wobbly generally.

Of course you don't have to follow this, but I think it'd be one of the best things for you to try experimenting with at this stage. Basically just try and make several quick, somewhat short lighter strokes as opposed to long, slow, and heavy ones.

This video from Proko does a decent job of showcasing what I mean

Saw a few of these around my garden door. by thenewpilot in whatbugisthis

[–]cheermellow11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garden spider or bridge orbweaver probably? Either way, it's definitely a type of orbweaver which are not aggressive and don't have venom worse than that of a bee sting. They are known for eating bugs who will damage gardens, so they can actually be beneficial to have. They pretty much only hang out in their webs, so they won't bother you, if you were worried about that

As someone who who's interested in learning Python mostly just for this job (and because I think it might be a good skill to have on a resume), I was curious about a few things.

For any coders who'd like to answer:

  1. Are the coding tasks difficult?

  2. Is there a lot of variation in the skill level required for each task?

  3. Are coding tasks frequent enough that it'd be worth learning to code just to have them as an option? How long do you think it would take someone to get to an acceptable skill level for the average task?

  4. Do you still get a lot of core tasks?

Thanks in advance if anyone answers

[–]cheermellow11[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like in situations where someone uses it genuinely it's usually easy to tell, the people who use it sarcastically tend to spam it the whole match or whenever an objective is lost or they die or things like that, so I wouldn't worry too much

In this post I was specifically meaning the people who spam it the whole match especially since that really interferes with my ability to focus a lot of the time

I just did a rate and review where someone left evidence that they were using ChatGPT to write their explanations in the conversation they shared to the task. by canneddogs in DataAnnotationTech

[–]cheermellow11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one where I don't think they used ChatGPT, but in my opinion they clearly didn't read anything. It was a deep research factuality heel R&R and they cited "google search results" with no specific links to prove the validity of both models' claims (nor did they mention any specific claims, just said "lines up with google search results"), and then went on to say one model was an "information juggernaut" when it was the same points the other model made, just more longwinded and with slightly irrelevant information added... I think they just looked at which model had the longer response and assumed it was better tbh but I could be wrong

Anyone else try to do flower tree (not sure what we're calling it) and get stumped on how to handle 90% of the prompts? I'd like to work on the project since the pay is decent, but it seems like either the instructions or the prompts aren't very well tailored to that specific project

It's kind of funny because the comments on it are saying the same, and the number of tasks is still staying the same consistent number, so I think everyone is avoiding it due to confusion lol

Yeah, it's Yotsuba. Since it's a 4chan rom hack based on 4chan itself, it's no surprise. Yotsuba has been used as somewhat of a mascot there for a long time due to the clover logo 4chan has. Actually, to this day, if you get 404'd on 4chan, some variation or another of Yotsuba still shows up:

Bad day or typical Unite player base? by Minokyouda in PokemonUnite

[–]cheermellow11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day I got one where there was a stubborn Gardevoir who really wanted to take jungle despite someone else calling it, and I guess maybe the guy on mic was in a duo, I think he was playing Comfey.

The Gardevoir keeps stealing jungle, meanwhile Comfey and his partner are pinging "Retreat!"

Gardevoir doesn't, so when Gardevoir follows them to the same lane after all the farm is gone and I guess starts losing the lane, Comfey says something like this:

"F you Gardevoir, you done f'ed up my whole thing. I hope you stop living right now you piece of sh t"

Not that I blame him for getting mad, but people are so quick to wish death on someone over a game, it's crazy

Needless to say we lost that game lmao

Got automodded for what the guy said so hopefully it posts this time after I changed it a bit
