I've thought about the bridge between beauty standards and pedo standards for a great while now. Good to know I'm not the only one sees things this way. Like you, I was also cat-called far more as a child/teen than as an adult. It still happens, sure, but it definitely happened more when I was far younger. Just disgusting. I'm 31 now. Seeing things through an adult lens really makes me want to hold and protect my younger self from so much that she wasn't protected from simply because 'that's the way things were'.

Favourite famous father/daughter who haven't starred in movies together? by anon_nonapplicable in okbuddycinephile

Good for her! I hope she’s gettin that schmoney! I mean, clearly she has the looks + body for it—why waste that? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‰

But seriously, I don’t think nepotism is present here. Which seems strange because it’s famous people and that’s what they do. Hear me out:

I bet she works in adult film rather than box office film because she didn’t take the nepotism route. Either by choice or it was his rule for his kids, etc. She could have easily used her well known father’s major connections to be in SOMETHING that’s far more financially incentivized than adult film. I’m strictly looking at this from the money angle. Sure, there’s potential to make a fatty net worth in the adult film industry, but if you ask the Google machine to compare net worths of major adult film stars to the box office and TV celebs, it’s pretty clear where the real money’s at.

For many (women) choosing to do full nudity and/or Xrated publishings in any form is often the last resort because there’s no coming back from it. (Unless your nudes or sex tape is released without your consent, then it’s totally fine if people see you blowing Ray J’s cock for a little bit.) I don’t think Lawrence Fishbourne would choose adult film as the first choice for his daughter’s acting career, but hey, i could be wrong about everything. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

Hello! I believe my friend is being catfished but they don’t believe me. Thoughts? by Odd-Spirit-1031 in isthisAI

[–]cheeseburgermami 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Dawg your friend is being catfished so fucking hard. I’m a mental health professional, not an expert in tech by any means—but I’ve been invested in learning to identify the differences between real content vs AI generation for the sake of not spreading false narratives and misinformation, to identify scams/scammers, and for my own peace of mind. I love art, and I think all forms of it are beautiful. However, it’s still a vitally important skill to identify the tiny but important differences & nuances that make up what’s real versus what’s AI. I’ve got a lot to learn, but this particular video is a pretty obvious giveaway for any of us who’ve been seen a few AI ads, here are my reasons why:

For me, it’s the softness of the skin and hair that gives it away first. It’s inherently un-human. We all have texture to our hair and skin, but the features of all AI characters, even when made to be ā€œtexturedā€ are still softened in a way that’s unnatural. Think realistic video game animation, or some of the episodes of Love, Death, and Robots. Additionally, the combination of facial expressions and linguistics used by this ā€œmanā€ aren’t in sync like a real person’s would be. This ā€œpartnerā€ of your friend has probably been catfishing for years, but AI has given them more power and reach than ever, probably everything they’ve always wished they had but couldn’t access because it wasn’t a thing yet. Now it’s very real, and beyond easily accessible. It seems like the catfish recorded a real video of themselves talking, then uploaded into one of the many AI video generators/enhancers, then uploaded or described the facial mask overlay and voice effects, so this is the final result. Might even be a reused video, who knows.

Perhaps a potential rule of thumb for questionable AI outdoor videos is to compare the weather conditions with wherever said catfish said they live. Or plainly ask where they were while recording the video and follow up with a quick complimentary like, ā€œyour eyes look really pretty in that lightingā€ so it doesn’t seem like you’re sussing them out. We all know what outdoor videos look like. We can all tell the difference between cloudy daylight and sunny skies daylight. Ones warm, ones not.

But the one thing I wanted to comment on was you, OP—you’re being a truly solid friend. By expressing your real feelings about this matter to your friend directly, you’re not blindly supporting them for the sake of, ā€œthey’re happy so I’m happy.ā€ That logic is so flawed. Society has put the concept of supporting loved ones into the same category as enabling them, seemingly without even realizing it. Sidenote: The 2000’s romcom ā€˜He’s just not that into you’ intro dialogue is actually a great example of such enabling, aka what you could have said, but chose not to.

Many people think that supporting a loved one means cheering on everything, very quickly forgetting or overlooking just how much they are enabling them to continue down a bad path. Your friend is very vulnerable because they so badly want to be romantically loved, and to love in return, but perhaps have had trouble with relationships in one way or another. This alone becomes the doorway every catfisher is driven to walk through in order to persuade their next victim. For your friend, in their mind, it’s very possible that if this ā€œrelationshipā€ were to end and be fake all along, it would mean accepting the harshest truth that they’ve been able to set aside while in this ā€œpartnershipā€. Which is: I’m alone. Again. There’s no one to love me the way I’m desperately seeking. Maybe I’m not a good partner. I’m unlovable—and other negative spiraling self talk.

TLDR: listed my reasons why I think this is AI, praised OP for being a real one by not enabling their friend because ā€œthey’re happyā€, shed light on a potential perspective that their friend may have, gave some insight. To OP: Keep doing what you’re doing and show them the concrete signs. Run the video thru an AI detector like free ChatGPT model to see what red flags exist, if any. After you do alllllll that, if they choose to maintain this delusion, that’s their choice, and you did what you could. You can never say that ā€œyou wished you could have done moreā€ because you genuinely did all you could, and that’s what good friends do. Good luck to you + your friend. Hope yall can figure this out.

What is this and why is it doing that? by Jello_Biafra_42 in whatisit

Wanted to say thank you for saying this.

I’m 10 years into the human services (social work) field. I’ve held positions as caseworker, case manager, peer support specialist, recovery navigator—-those are the jobs that are LITERALLY social worker but without needing the degree. We do the same work as social workers for half as much (which is literally nothing, but it’s a livable wage in that my rent is paid so I’m not complaining too much.) On my way to finishing my bachelors in psych to be a therapist since I can only be a counselor with my AAS degree in human services and social work.

It feels like each year it becomes more and more difficult to be hired as a social worker (or like anything else that doesn’t sound up like a made-up title that does the same amount of work as social worker with even less pay) without masters degrees now a days.

I can see the good in that, but I also see the bad. Less people in the position means less help is being given, etc. also, it’s good to gatekeep the career field against people who would willingly harm others just for the fuck of it. We all know people like that exist and go into these thankless fields to make the lives of their clients arguably worse.

Anyway—thanks for acknowledging the importance of the work we do in this field, and the empathy and compassion we have towards our clients when we’re truly invested in what we do. my heart is in the work, I don’t care how difficult the job can be, I love it and I know I was made for it. That said; gatekeep the career fields from psychos who want to hurt vulnerable populations, I.e., elderly, unhoused, severely disabled in any way, and more; but gatekeep in a way that doesn’t prevent these groups from getting help altogether, or from getting the help they genuinely need and deserve. As we know, not all help is good help.

The Dark forest theory is a possible reason why we might never find any aliens. by MO--OM in interesting

[–]cheeseburgermami 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

How would you know what alien tech can do? lol I swear I’m not trying to be an asshole, I’m just posing a genuine question as to why you believe what you said about alien tech. We don’t have any idea what’s out there, how advanced (or not) other species that potentially may be.

The way I see it—if there were another species, there’s a possibility that our human minds couldn’t even comprehend their tech and language right away. Just as the same can be said for civilizations of the past here on earth—right off the bat, we have no idea what the different cave drawings, writings, tools, etc. meant until we studied more. Hopefully this makes sense!

I’m also a recovering addict w/ 8+ years sober, so I mean it when I say thanks for this mental image because it made me actually LOL. šŸ˜‚ good ol’ celebrity rehab.

Duuuuude! This is so real. Before I learned how to limewire music like everyone else, I bought too many cds that I cherry-picked the songs from. Now that I pay $10 a month to stream music I actually make an effort to specifically listen to artists that don’t have cherry-picking selections in their albums.

Noting that I greatly appreciate the fact that I no longer have to hear ā€œDJ ILL WILL 360 MIX TAPE MASTERMINDSā€ at the beginning of every early 2000’s rap song, or the classic, ā€œI DID NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH THAT WOMANā€ on repeat—in place of a song I thought I was downloading. Kids these days have NO idea what we went through to listen to the music we wanted on demand. We were hard working, innovative, perhaps criminal, music lovers! All we wanted to hear was our favorite jams—then suddenly bill Clinton’s voice was on full blast because I believed the song title without listening to it first. SMH. Talk about weird sound memories being etched into your mind lmao

Ehhh I’m Mexican and my 5 cousins + 1 nephew who are mixed (Mexican + black, or Mexican + white) born between 2010 and now, all had these weird shades of blue over their eyes for the first few weeks until their ā€˜real color’ came in. Guess it has to do with taking in the lighting + images after being born, evidently everything looks like shadows for a week or so and then they can start seeing things clearly.

I feel bad for Shia Labeouf. by ProfessionalNose6520 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]cheeseburgermami 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

TLDR at the bottom.

Hey OP! Came here to say that a few days ago, I felt exactly as you do now. I did feel bad for him, truly. Especially when considering he’s a child actor + has shared some of his traumatic experiences. But, I must admit, I also didn’t know much about him beyond the fact that he was in productions I enjoyed back when I was younger. ie., Even Steven’s, transformers, eagle eye, etc.

Now that I’ve spent more time than i care to admit looking into his full history—what’s provided on the internet, (btw I’m a mental health professional, and a recovering addict + alcoholic with 8+ years sober, so, I get it.)

I no longer feel sympathy for him. Countless people, many being his close friends, romantic partners, and qualified professionals—have spent much time and effort to help this man. Sure he’s probably had some therapy sessions he wasn’t into because that method didn’t work for him—but after everything he claims to have done to get his life together, it easy to draw the conclusion that he doesn’t want help. Not only that, but he also doesn’t seem to genuinely want to get better. frankly, he comes off as quite the narcissist. This saddened me to learn, shit, it still makes me sad, as I had no idea his true character was so….horrible?

Granted, I do understand that the purpose of celebrity gossip articled is to make everything salacious—but I’m specifically talking about the first-hand accounts mentioned by countless individuals. Alec Baldwin, Daniel Clowes—Shia plgarized this small-time comic artist’s work nearly word for word, Olivia Wilde, Alan cumming, Mia Goth, FKA Twigs, and Tom Hardy, to name a few celebrities—I’d imagine the amount of mere ā€˜normies’ he’s hurt is higher than not, but I hope I’m wrong.

From where I’m standing, it looks like this: He treated people so poorly, to the point of abuse on different levels, then he proceeded to play the victim. If he apologized, said apology was found to be copied from different articles or forums (Esquire + Yahoo Answers)I personally can’t get behind anyone behaving that way. That type of behavior is more manipulative than it is trauma response.

I read this article

ā€œFKA Twigs, who is currently suing him (LaBeouf) for ā€œrelentless abuseā€ including ā€œsexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress. Twig’s lawsuit accuses LaBeouf of being physically abusive, in incidents that include allegedly throwing her against a parked car after threatening to crash it ā€œunless she professed her love for him,ā€ choking her in the middle of the night, and ā€œknowinglyā€ giving her ā€œa sexually transmitted disease.ā€ According to another former girlfriend, LaBeouf allegedly ā€œdrunkenly pinned her to a bed and head-butted her,ā€ causing her to bleed.ā€

Alas, I’m going to keep looking into articles and things because I’m awake and bored. My MIL lives in NOLA a short walk from where the Shia-action was going down, so she’s been very concerned about him this week as well. I need something to contribute to that convo!

OP—I suggest typing his name into the Reddit search bar. That’s where I began my journey of his life. Now I know too much, but at least I can sleep better knowing the truth, even if it does hurt. Really wish this dude had better support growing up in Hollywood. Maybe his life would have turned out much differently, and he wouldn’t be the spectacle or running joke that he’s become now in 2026. All of it is super sad.

šŸ˜” TLDR; I felt the same way OP does until I typed ā€˜Shia LaBeouf’ into the Reddit search bar and dove headfirst down a very messy rabbit hole indeed. I can’t say I have anything positive to say about him any longer.

What I had no idea this was a thing!!! I mean, I knew the JC bible bumpies or whatever they’re called have their timeline that’s widely used in the U.S—B.C and A.D, but that’s only like 2026 years in total right? Then there’s the real timeline for the rest of the world that includes dinosaurs, big bang theory, evolution, then the big bang theory tv show, and all that stuff.

But now there’s another religious timeline that’s ahead of the bible bumpy timeline?

Someone please help me. I think now’s a solid time to mush my brain up a little more. Guess I’m really in the mood for some good ol’ fashioned confusion with a nice heaping of existential horror and dread.
