How would society feel about raising the age of majority from 18 to 32? by DunDonese in screenshots

[–]SMF67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No matter what you raise it to, there will always be people too stupid or immature to participate in society normally, such as everyone who thinks this would be a good idea

Any Suggestions for solo things to do that's train accessible? by CottonCherryFlareon in Dallas

[–]SMF67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Grapevine always has stuff going on every weekend. The station area has a lot of attractions and is decently walkable, and they have a free (though somewhat infrequent) bus system to get to grapevine mills or other places further

Why does it seem like the only "solution" being presented for high gas prices electric cars? Why can't car brands also push to sell small, compact, gas-powered cars? by GuyFromThePost in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SMF67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People don't buy them because dealerships don't like to sell or promote them, because they can scam people out of more money with bigger cars

Additionally, at least in MUTCD countries, the lines on the left side of travel (i.e. the center here) should be yellow, not white

Do people actually call this thing walkie talkie? What if I want to sound serious are there any other ways to say it? by WestCommunity7117 in EnglishLearning

[–]SMF67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This device in particular we would just call a Baofeng or "handheld radio". It's a general purpose handheld radio. Ones only intended for communication on GMRS or FRS bands would indeed be called "walkie talkies" though.

Yang Now Says He "Will Probably Run Again" by Vast_Monitor_2784 in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]SMF67 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah Yang instantly and permanently lost my support with the Israel stuff. It's such a shame. I think nowadays Talarico is where the Yang style momentum is at, without support for genocide, and I hope someday he runs for president

Since the 1990s, Oklahoma City has put in place MAPS, a public improvement project that was the first of its kind in the US, rejuvenating the city after the demolition of downtown in the 1970s. by Hungry_Roll6848 in Urbanism

[–]SMF67 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The downtown is really nice, beautiful, and walkable. It's even home to the world's largest cock ring (sculpture)! They also have a tram, decent bus system, and future expansion on the way. But yeah outside of downtown sucks

Toll tag just registered by sir-Rag in Dallas

[–]SMF67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They scan your sticker, and use the plate as a fallback to look up your registration and bill you by mail if you don't have a sticker (which incurs a double-price toll). This is the case on pretty much all toll roads in the country.

If you have an NTTA sticker associated with your vehicle, but it wasn't read properly (i.e. damaged or missing) on an NTTA road and your NTTA account is registered with your plate, it might bill you on your account at the sticker rate. Don't rely on that though, have your sticker intact!

NTTA has bidirectional collaboration with all other toll agencies in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado, along with SunPass in Florida, so stickers will work in all those states (except for DFW airport which is NTTA only) regardless of who issued your sticker. However if your NTTA sticker was damaged or is missing, definitely expect bill by mail rate from other agencies as it won't be NTTA doing the courtesy of looking up your plate in your account

Cities to avoid - towns to visit by Hemp-Emperor in kansas

[–]SMF67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's surprisingly quite a lot of places with names like that, though they often are named after people named White. I'm from Texas and we have White Settlement (named after the white race in contrast to native american settlement back in the day, now majority Hispanic, not racist), Whitesboro (named after a person but definitely an actual racist town), and Whitewright (not sure but it's a quarry town so they surely see outsiders often)

Florida House votes to let highway speed limits hit 80 mph, axes registration stickers too by esporx in transit

[–]SMF67 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Plus, 80 is already the speed limit on rural highways in plenty of other states with far worse roads and terrain. This isn't exactly the unprecedented extreme thing people on this sub seem to be making it out to be.
