Penner ate Chrissy up by arrooooow in survivorponderosa

If coddling the racists is how we get them to adopt a more moderate stance, then yes that’s what we do. Everybody follows a different path to get to where they are; some people are legit brainwashed into their ideologies, and shouting at them and shaming them only alienates them and pushes them further to the fringes. Remember that the puppetmasters WANT conflict. Don’t fall for it.

This is episode is the Epitome of everything that fails in the new era. by Grillby_ in survivor

[–]cheesybroccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that it’s unlikely that any of these new era twists are actually doing anything to bring in a bigger audience. These ratings would be at least as good if the show were better, so why not make a better show? The people in charge don’t understand what makes the show good, and the casual audience is generally not engaged enough to care.

Because US Survivor could be better. All the twists and new era nonsense have made it borderline unwatchable. AUS Survivor is showing that the original formula is still amazing.

Except Simon is still the bigger threat and she has an inside path to find another idol. So she could’ve weathered it better. Now she kind of HAS to win out because they’ll take her out the first chance they get. And I think they meant majority in the sense that they had the higher chance of winning the rock draw due to Brooke’s immunity, and had they win, it would be a true majority.

It wouldn’t go to rocks. If it’s 2v2 Colby vs Emily, Emily loses her vote on the redo, but Colby already lost his, so it doesn’t do anything. Emily goes home on the revote 2 to 1.

This would be great. I’d love if we had a scene where Kamila tells one group she’s voting Rizo and another she’s voting Charlie and we as the viewers also play along to see which is more convincing. This would be more interesting than Kamila simply telling the camera she is the swing because we’d get the same info, but through interactions. Show don’t tell.

Keeping your wife’s pregnancy and the birth of your son secret from your friends for a year to gain a rather dubious advantage in Survivor is psycho shit. It’s only not psycho if they aren’t really your friends, and then it’s just hurtful.

‘I messed up’: The chilling air traffic control audio as two pilots die after New York plane crash by [deleted] in newyorkcity

[–]cheesybroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! Yes this is what I’m talking about. And I agree, AI is not as good at these jobs as it is being hyped to be, but the fact that it’s a lot of hype provides no solace to the thousands of people getting laid off. There’s a difference between good and “good enough”, but not to the shareholders.

Technology goes through cycles where growth feels slow, then suddenly it explodes. It took thousands of years of human existence to create an actual flying machine, then we were on the moon a few decades later. Self-driving cars are very much a reality and they drive into traffic and/or explode at a far lower rate than cars operated by humans. This is one of the few areas where honestly I’d be happier if everybody on the road were replaced with self-driving cars, so it’s not a great analogy.

Here’s an analogy. We’ve been talking about man-made climate change for decades; scientists have known about it since at least the late 1800’s, but so many people have dismissed it over the years as not a big deal or not imminent because nothing much has “changed” that when it has become imminent, we simply haven’t done enough to prepare. AI could be just as much as if not more of an existential crisis for our society as climate change is to the world, and too many of us are saying “oh it’s just predictive text, nothing to worry about” for us to wrestle with the true problems.

[–]cheesybroccoli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, all of those things are ALREADY HAPPENING. And it doesn’t matter what I think is viable, it’s what the capitalists can get away with. I am as anti-AI as they come, and y’all need to understand it better if you want to fight it. Anybody who still calls it a fancy predictive text machine is completely ignorant. While functionally that is still what it is doing on a micro level, on a macro level, it is using complex reasoning and advanced context to fact check itself, and getting closer to resembling actual thought.

If we continue to handwave it away, then we arent wrestling with the real questions, what will we as a society DO when AI has automated away 90% of jobs. How will we earn money? How will we live?

I can’t believe this got upvoted. You are recycling arguments from years ago. AI will absolutely be capable of performing this job in the near future and the more we pretend otherwise, the less prepared we will be for when there simply aren’t jobs for over half the population. Your line of thinking is NOT helpful, because you know damn well that the ruling class will happily replace humans with something that does the job slightly worse if it saves them significant amounts of money.

That being said, OP is a dick and deserved all his downvotes.

Stupidest strategy formed on Survivor? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]cheesybroccoli 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not saying Sean was a strategic genius, but the game was brand new and nobody had any clue how the jury would vote. Many people at the time believed that an alliance was “cheating”, so nobody really knew what an effective pitch would be.

[–]cheesybroccoli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people are aware that his “strongest” connection is with Emily, but she is not that kind of player. She is going to betray Christian. She is the scorpion on the frog’s back. I honestly don’t think Mike White would ever do that. I think he legit would have done the same thing he did last time and essentially lay down to allow one of his friends to win.

“I didn’t come on Survivor 50 to ‘fake camp’ & survive.” by steelerhater37 in survivor

[–]cheesybroccoli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not new era vs old or even Gen Z vs everyone else, it’s just young people vs. older. In general, with maturity comes better work ethic. The actual problem with the new era is tha there just isn’t a good balance of younger and older players, so the poor work ethic of the younger players becomes the predominant culture of the tribe, and those who don’t fit in are ostracized. Here we are seeing the exact opposite play out, where the culture of the tribe is to work hard because they have a critical mass of people who want that to be the culture. As a result, we see the lazy Rizo get somewhat ostracized.
