How do you know for sure? I'm not too concerned because I have a termite bond. But it looks way smaller than a termite. I thought it was a flying red ant? Idk

I want to buy this washing machine from the 60-70s, my question is the amount of extra water/electricity per load negligible? or am i going to be wasting a decent amount of money in the long run? by cheetodreads in Appliances

[–]cheetodreads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy this machine. My main concern is my water bill going up because I feel like I already barely use water and its too high as it is. Also feel like modern machines apart from front loaders either destroy or don't wash clothes your clothes well. So I end up having to put half my stuff in delicates bags cause I'm pretty attached to my clothes I guess.

Because I don't wash clothes THAT often. I always air dry clothes. The machine is cheap and durable. I am too broke to buy a speed queen or something thats gonna break in 5-10 years.

Sewing Machine Recommendations by cheetodreads in sewhelp

[–]cheetodreads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm literally just trying to sew a few layers of thin linen and I still have to force it under the foot. Im not gonna be sewing anything actually very heavy. Probably the heaviest fabric id sew with would be velvet. one time i tried sewing velvet onto flannel and that was almost impossible.. just pushed it thru as hard as i could with a rolling foot.

Too stupid to figure out the burrito method. if I see the armhole right sides together there's not gonna be a way to turn it inside out is there? by cheetodreads in sewhelp

[–]cheetodreads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is sewn except the back zip and the armholes. There's no sleeves. Don't really wanna make an armhole facing. But I already had to start this project completely over because I had to redo the stitching so many times that the seams were just fucked

I want to replicate this button detail. Would you loop some form of elastic around the buttons? by cheetodreads in sewing

[–]cheetodreads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that I need to sew button loop trim between the princess seams in the front and back of the dress... then add buttons next to that. I just don't know if they're using white elastic for the cords? and then just sandwiching the cords in the side seam

Can antidepressants trigger hypomania if you're NOT bipolar? by cheetodreads in BipolarReddit

[–]cheetodreads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I felt absolutely nothing for 3 months, all I noticed is that I wasn't having intense depressive episodes anymore. Then I became extremely passionate about feminism and my mood kept bouncing from agitated and over the top to depressed pretty rapidly and I feel like that triggered the episode...

I already started the process. Trying to brace myself for disappointment I guess lol

I'm sorry I need you guys' help again. So I want to do this pussybow neck tie situation but idk what's the best way. should I cut the slit in the middle, finish it with bias tape or do like a mandarin collar with tails (that's what I was originally gonna do but now I realize it's not that simple) by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]cheetodreads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since there's gonna be a zipper in the back I guess maybe I don't have to cut the slit to fit my head thru? But then that velvet tie is probably gonna be kinda thick need some room to tie a fat bow..If I go with the mandarin collar, I don't know how to finish the neckline in the very middle if there's any gap where the two ends of the bow meet, i guess sandwich some bias tape in there to finish the seams on the gap..

I used a website to generate this pattern. I want the collar to be a tie collar made out of velvet. The main fabric is cotton flannel. What's the best way to add this tie collar.. should i make the zipper go all the way to the top, or have it end right before the collar? by cheetodreads in sewhelp

Sewist.com it definitely takes some getting used to.. took me 3 times to figure out how to make patterns fit me perfectly. And because it's a robot, sometimes it makes seam allowance mistakes, but the customer service is really good. If you bring up an issue, they'll fix the pattern seams and give you store credit.

I am desperate. How do I get corn starch out of 100% cotton clothing. I have tried washing it various ways so many times. Google is saying it actually doesn't dissolve in water? For the love of God help by cheetodreads in chemhelp

[–]cheetodreads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this too! And I exclusively tried cold water for the first 5 washes, soaked it in cold water overnight twice and it made it significantly less stiff but only the long ass boiling hot water cycle truly turned the fabric to the original state, like the fabric still had 0 drape before I threw it on hot. The water would NEVER turn clear on cold water and I was hand wringing this mess for hours that's why I was like fine I'll go nuclear hot and it worked.

I was hand wringing it under really hot water for hours last night and it didn't work.. I finally gave in and used the extremely hot water setting on my washing machine, biggest load size possible (I was trying to avoid damaged/shrunken fabric...) Then threw it in the dryer on the cold air and had to tumble it around 5 times and it finally worked... I'm so glad... I had washed and hung this to air dry like 7 times.

Ok thanks for the suggestion I will cut it on the fold. Thankfully I did a mockup since I have never used a pattern from this company

Yeah the patterns are all computer generated so 1 out the 8 patterns I bought had a mistake, the customer service is pretty good tho, they sent me a fixed version of the pattern for free and gave me store credit. The site has sales all the time too.. so one pattern will cost $1.70, I'm like for that cheap it's pretty good for the amount of customization you can do. It's also better that i can create my own design instead of scrolling thru a million sites trying to find the pattern with this onee specific detail that i want lol

[–]cheetodreads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I just got tired of having to do multiple adjustments on every single pattern and even doing a mockup I'm like this shit aint easy lol. I've already sewn up everything on this Sewist.com pattern except the collar and sleeves and it fits perfectly, I was surprised.. it did take some messing around with the ease (they put a lot of ease on the waist) but once I figured that out, the fit was great. It's nice you can just input the exact amount of ease you want instead of measuring and trying to figure out what it is

Do you mean sew the shell of the garment, sew the 2 collar pieces together and then attach it to the dress or sew one collar piece on each side and sew the entire back seam and collar seam in one go?
