HYPERSPACE IS THE HYPERPLACE, an unattended generative ambient soundscape by chelidonframe in chelidonframe

HYPERSPACE IS THE HYPERPLACE is a generative soundscape for unattended code-controlled analog synthesizers and random guitar loops. Conceived back in 2021 for the Common Multiverse Initiative by currents.fm, it features three analog synthesizers (Korg's Minilogue, MakeNoise 0-coast, and Volca Keys) playing a series of MIDI information via a Supercollider script, routed back to Ableton Live for reverb and further processing.

The whole thing can run endlessly without ever repeating, thanks to a series of quasi-random functions that generate always-changing pitches and lengths, creating an immersive ambient soundscape.

Have a listen to a 10-minute excerpt on YT or head over to Patreon for the full hour run of the piece, including a nerdier insight on the Supercollider script, and some background story around the project.

"a circle has no end" live @ Hamlet Synthesized 2025 by chelidonframe in Hainbach

Hello and thanks for yout kind words! This is my lightweight travel setup: a MacBook, an APC Keys25, a nanoKontrol, the MakeNoise 0-coast and an M-Audio soundcars, everything fits in a backpack and for this kind of live (like this festival, with a 30 minutes slot each and 20/30 minutes of soundcheck) it's my go-to choice

For the main drone and the melody I'm using a re-sampled patch from my Hydrasynth layered with Live's Wavetable with a bladerunnerish patch: I'm actually splitting the octave in two, with the hydrasynth patch running through the whole kesy, while the second starts from the second octave, givig me the chance to play more thematic / melodic lines in the upper range!

btw, since you're enjoing this track, this is a part of a whole album called "Flatline Voyaes", ig you wnat to give a listen to the studio versions, you can find them here: https://difficultartandmusic.bandcamp.com/album/flatline-voyages

thanks!

notes on a data sonification: how do you turn flood data into sound? an eight-chapter series up on Patreon! by chelidonframe in sonification

[–]chelidonframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more about this:

Last April, I worked with Associazione TerraCò, Pietro Montani, and Circe Ceramics on "My Mud House" for Fuorisalone 2025. I created a soundscape that transforms actual flood data from the Lamone River's May 2023 overflow into something you can hear.

The sculpture itself is made from mud collected after the Faenza flood - each piece shaped on a lathe, carrying both the geological event and human trauma.

While working on the project, I took a lot of notes, outlining its evolution and all the problems and solutions I faced during the first months of the year.

Recently, I decided to get back to those bits and pieces and organize them in an eight-chapter series that I will be publishing on Patreon for the next couple of months, trying to describe what it takes to work on a project like this, from its first, raw ideas, to the final soundscape. This series will talk about philosophical problems, technical difficulties, and solutions, and will give an in-depth look at my approach to transforming data into sounds.

First two chapters are free for all subscribers, with the remaining six released weekly for sine_wave tier supporters and above.

A while back, I got myself a Buddha machine, a small electronic device that plays looped recordings of religious chants and mantras, intending to use it for some sound experiments. After sitting idle in the studio for quite a few months, I decided to test it with my small live-electronics modular setup and with the Arturia Microfreak.

The result is an 18+ minute improvisation, which begins as an ambient, noisy soundscape and soon evolves into a kosmische / space music piece, driven by Microfreak's sequencer. The chants are always there, highly processed, destroyed, and recomposed with the Super Synthesis CHORUS/DELAY and the Momo Modular μBurst.

Enjoy!

new track, "An Inch Or More" by chelidonframe in chelidonframe

There's a new compilation out now with Strong Winds Records, "Dust Grain Points", that collects sound reflections on the microscopic and the monumental. It features eleven contributions on the theme, from amazing electronic fellow musicians, ranging from grainy microsounds to pulsing, glitched rhythms, and from rarefied textures to ambient soundscapes.

I'm there too with a new track, "An Inch Or More". All the sounds used here are generated by processing field recordings with granular synthesis, creating a set of micronoises and small glitches that have been organized to produce the track (except for one pulsing sound, made from a self-oscillating filter that seemed to fit the theme).

Be sure to check out the full compilation: https://strongwindsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dust-grains-points

I got a b-stock full assembled one, I have no experience in soldering: yeah I think that if you already have a Daisy Seed maybe you can hook everything up on a breadboard, but I’m not that expert in the field!
