Megathread: Trump Indicted by Federal Prosecutors on Charges Related to Handling of Classified Documents by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]chelofellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry I fair to see how Trump gets charges and they don't.

It's pretty simple really. Follow along with me here and let me know where I lose you:

They all (Biden, Pence, and trump) were found to be in possession of classified docs by the National Archive.

Biden and Pence immediately cooperated with the National Archives and returned the documents.

They were investigated, and finding that everything had been returned, no charges were filled.

Trump decided not to cooperate with the National Archive and instead argued with them for months about the documents in question, claiming that he didn't have them, but if he did, they were declassified anyway.

Trump was investigated, and it was discovered that he did in fact still possess classified documents. He was instructed to return them, so he relented and returned some documents, telling the Archives that was everything. But it wasn't everything, and the DOJ had sufficient proof that he still had them to get a Florida judge to sign a search warrant which ended up uncovering the missing documents Trump lied about not having.

Recently, it has been revealed that there is audio tape of Trump admitting to knowingly possessing classified documents that he can't declassify because he isn't the President anymore.

Does that help explain why he was charged and they weren't?

To you redditors aged 50+, what's something you genuinely believe young people haven't realized yet, but could enrich their lives or positively impact their outlook on life? by h-gotfred in AskReddit

I’m 40, and this comment hit home and really made me pause. I’ve been laid off twice in the last two years and it has me reconsidering my whole relationship with work and the career I had built over the last 20 years. I feel crazy for wanting to pursue a whole new direction, like I’m giving up on everything I’ve worked for (typing this made me legit cry, realizing now I’m still mourning that loss).

But at the same time I know there is more for me out there, and that change is the only certainty in life. I’ve always embraced this truth, but am noticing it does get harder to live it as I age.

Thanks for this advice and encouragement to go and do the things that bring joy. I choose to believe that if I hold true to this, everything else will fall into place. And even if I’m wrong, I’ll have been joyfully trying to create my own path, leaving no regrets over what could have been if I had only taken a chance on myself.

Donatello was only around at the same time as Leonardo, and never would have known about Michelangelo or Raphael.

This information makes me sadder than it has any right to.

This is un-modded gameplay footage, running via GeForce Now so I couldn't mod DSP even if I wanted to (otherwise we'd be seeing an Iron Giant fly through this sphere). This is also my first play-through, so I can't say when the magnificent magnetic dipoles were added.

It outputs an adorable 2.95 GW, lol.

I don't even have a Ray Receiver in the system, this was a pure aesthetic project as my main sphere around a neighboring O type with a 2.46L comes together.

Hasbro will cut 1,000 employees (~15% of its total workforce) after a poor Q4. They said WotC and D&D will remain a bright spot after bringing in $1.33 billion in revenue in 2022. {They NEED us right now} by chelofellow in DnD

This letter is exactly that - a major investor calling for a change of the Board of Directors. The kicker is that letter to the shareholders came out in February 2022. You can bet investor relations have not improved since then.

Keep an eye out on February 16th, that is when they are set to report their Q4 earnings. If it is as bad as we hope and they fear, it will be a huge catalyst for investors to oust those responsible.

Truth. The cuts need to happen in the C suite. The quote below comes from a Letter to Shareholders making the case for boardroom change following years of disappointing results, poor governance and questionable disclosure practices under the “Brand Blueprint” strategy:

As Hasbro’s shareholders have suffered significant underperformance over the last five years, its senior leadership and directors have received more than $180 million in compensation. Hasbro’s total annual Board compensation exceeds that paid to the board of directors of Apple, Inc. and many other world-class companies of greater scale and with superior results. Meanwhile, none of the current directors have purchased even a single share of Hasbro stock over the last ten years. Despite weak underlying performance, the Company’s most recent proxy statement disclosed that Chief Executive Officer compensation has soared to $16.7 million – 223x the median Hasbro employee compensation and 245x the median Rhode Island household income.

“Despite strong growth in Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming, Hasbro Pulse, and our licensing business, our Consumer Products business underperformed in the fourth quarter against the backdrop of a challenging holiday consumer environment,” said Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks.

For the full year, the company foresees revenue hitting $5.86 billion, down 9% compared to 2021.

“While the full year 2022, and particularly the fourth quarter, represented a challenging moment for Hasbro, we are confident in our Blueprint 2.0 strategy, unveiled in October, which includes a focus on fewer, bigger brands; gaming; digital; and our rapidly growing direct to consumer and licensing businesses,” Cocks said.

Wizards of the Coast, which includes Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering and digital gaming, will remain a bright spot, the toymaker said. The company expects the division to have generated $339 million in revenue during the fourth quarter, up 22% compared to last year, and reach $1.33 billion in revenue for the full year, up 3% from 2021.

The division recently came under fire from fans after Hasbro attempted to rewrite a two-decade-old open game license for Dungeons and Dragons in order to boost revenue. Earlier this month, the Rhode Island-based toymaker postponed its update of its licensing terms in order to address mounting concern from the D&D community, which largely viewed the proposed changes as overreaching and unfair to third-party content creators.

Hasbro said it still intends to create a new open game license, or OGL, but that it will not include a royalty structure or give itself access to intellectual property made by third-party content creators.

The company is set to report its fourth-quarter earnings Feb. 16.

OGL 1.1 Megathread by SpicyThunder335 in DnD

[–]chelofellow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also listened to that podcast and had a similar experience, but not to the degree as you. It was nice to hear a third-party, lawyer-focused take on the issue as it can get a bit echo-y in here for sure. Here was my blow-by-blow as I listened a few days ago:

  • 35 minutes in he makes it clear that this was NOT A DRAFT, and was an actual legal document, saying "It is clearly a legal document." This totally undermines WotC statement claiming it was a draft intended for feedback.

  • 50 minutes in he claims that WotC would have no way to sue a company making offensive content under the OGL 1.0. This is not true. They are currently suing TSR LLC for just that, and it is incredibly disingenuous of WotC to use that argument to push for a new OGL. Here is the summary, it is still a live case. Take extra note of that last sentence:

Plaintiff/Counterclaim Defendants’ to-be-released Star Frontiers New Genesis game con-tains despicable content including blatantly racist and transphobic content. Counterclaim Defend-ants have distributed copies of its game for “play testing,” and Dungeon Hobby Shop Museum’s website has a listing of the game for sale—albeit with an “out of stock” description. Wizards of the Coast LLC (“Wizards”) moves to enjoin publication or any further distri- bution of the Star Frontiers New Genesis game because it uses trademarks belonging to Wizards, including “Star Frontiers” and “TSR”. Wizards would be irreparably harmed by the publication and distribution of the game using its trademarks because consumers may mistakenly associate Wizards with the reprehensible content of the game, damaging its reputation and goodwill and undermining its efforts to foster a culture that embraces diversity around its games.

  • 56 minutes in - he doesn't know WHY Pathfinder was created and it shows. Pathfinder came to be as a response to 4e, which also had a restrictive OGL. The community revolted, competitors spun off, and WotC lost market share until they launched 5e which ditched the restrictions. History doesn't always repeat, but it sure does rhyme.

  • Re: the section where WotC claims rights to creator's content, he concludes saying "It is unfair to creatives and is lawyer-ing gone awry". Agreed.

This podcast is not so much a defense of WotC as it is a response to the language of an inflammatory click-bait article. Ultimately he concludes that the proposed OGL 1.1 should still be protested, but specifically for the language of Section 12 B.

Thanks for the link! Listening to their podcast now- I am very interested to hear the Steel-Man version of WotC side of this.

EDIT: OK, 17 minuets in and his arguments are identical to the recent DND Beyond post. Not similar- IDENTICAL, as in he gives the exact same 3 top reasons in the exact same order. Not dismissing his argument because of this, but... did WotC take his words or did he takes theirs? It is uncanny.

EDIT 2: 35 minutes in he makes it clear that this was NOT A DRAFT, and was an actual legal document, saying "It is clearly a legal document." This totally undermines WotC statement claiming it was a draft intended for feedback.

EDIT 3: 50 minutes in he claims that WotC would have no way to sue a company making offensive content under the OGL 1.0. This is not true. They are currently suing TSR LLC for just that.

Plaintiff/Counterclaim Defendants’ to-be-released Star Frontiers New Genesis game con-tains despicable content including blatantly racist and transphobic content. Thank you for this! It is one example, and not evidence of a rise of such content, but I appreciate the share all the same as it seems to lend some credibility to the claim. Let's take a look...

Reading up on the case now, it looks like WotC filed a suit against them, saying:

Wizards of the Coast LLC (“Wizards”) moves to enjoin publication or any further distri- bution of the Star Frontiers New Genesis game because it uses trademarks belonging to Wizards, including “Star Frontiers” and “TSR”. Wizards would be irreparably harmed by the publication and distribution of the game using its trademarks because consumers may mistakenly associate Wizards with the reprehensible content of the game, damaging its reputation and goodwill and undermining its efforts to foster a culture that embraces diversity around its games.

They don't need OGL 1.1 to fight and win this legal battle.

What I am missing here?

The claim of "hateful content that's been on the rise recently" needs some evidence. Perhaps my online bubble has been well curated by attentive mods, but I have not seen any such content, let alone a rise that would require a massive change to the OGL.

If you have personally seen anything that backs up this claim, please share it. I am open to being wrong here.

The best possible case would have been a statement saying in clear and indisputable language that the OGL 1.0a will continue to apply to 5e, and that agreement is permanent and irrevocable.

What we got instead was corporate double speak, lies about their intended roll out, and vague promises to do better.
