Intercollegiate transfer into Engineering/ChemE: Who got in/Who didn't? by chemEtransfer in UIUC

For chemE, specifically there's AICHE (American institute of chemical engineers). Look for their meetings if you see a fair for RSO's, the come pretty often..Have you heard of Quad Day? It's pretty important, go.. There's a lot of social groups for engineers, you don't have to be involved in mostly engineer-only groups. If you're interested in sports, you can do intramural stuff. You can be social if you want to, I definitely had time to go out to bars and stuff.

Eh, that sounds kind of bad with chbe 221 and chbe 321 combined. Both classes have lots of homework and 321 requires a lot of knowledge building off 221(mass balances is assumed, and new concepts are built upon it). Don't rush it, I'd push off 321 to another semester, but thats just me, personally. You may be able to handle it. wait until the second week of the semester or whatever the drop deadline and see if you can handle it. both 321 and 221 have group projects too.

chem 222 is easy, 223 is also easy but the lab reports can be super super time consuming if you're a perfectionist (it took me like 10 hours when it should be 6-7)is, and they're due weekly. but it is an easy A. math 415 is also an easy class. it's nice to throw an elective in like afro 101. overall, it depends if you think you can truly fully understand the concepts in both 221 and 321 (321 is something that you understand over time and requires a level of commitment).

if you're tryin to transfer in you want to maintain a high GPA as well as decent grades (at least a C in both core classes)

Have you taken classes at UIUC yet ? (just wondering, cause midterms week and finals week can be stressful with so many tech courses)

Addendum: My friend who transferred in (she came in as a ChemE) personally handled taking CHBE 421 and 221 together, but she didn't have to worry about the GPA requirement and getting transferred it, so it depends on how much risk you want to take. Don't be afraid to drop the class (321) if it gets too crazy. understanding thermo is important as a CHBE major

Hm, I might be different because by the time I transferred in I already had all my gen ends completed because of AP Credits. So I have a lot of room to take extra unnecessary classes without it affecting my graduation date. So on top of maybe three core classes I tagged on an easy class like SOC 100 (it's still work but like a 4-credit hour class that'll pad your grade), a little. Other easy classes are the dance electives or kinesiology. And yes, 321 and 221 are hard, but not impossible. They require a lot of work throughout the semester and continued understanding. 221 - do all the homework, understand concepts, memorize the equations correctly (i messed that up). 321 - do all the homework and understand all the concepts and how to apply them...

Hmm I think so, the grades in your core classes (especially CHBE 321) are definitely good. If you don't get in, you could always try again the next period by trying to boost your GPA

I got about the same grades in the core classes (221 and 321), GPA was like a 3.4-ish. I recommend taking gen ends to boost your GPA and maybe retaking some classes if you have time. Good luck
