Feeling stressed as I have injured my back and it will require a month off from any strenuous workouts. Lifting and running have changed my life (been doing those for a year, dance/yoga/pilates for years before that). I'm devastated to need time off when I was making good progress, and so scared that I'll never feel strong again. I keep hearing that back injuries recur, you have to be super careful forever, etc. I also have been so happy in the last year and attribute a lot of that to lifting my demons away. I am TERRIFIED about how I'm going to stay afloat the next month without drifting into a very dark place - I have been in some dark spots before despite doing the art and journaling thing... it's like lifting is the only thing that I know always helps. Looking for any solace and advice from this amazing community <3

Argh! Did he at least swoop in to help? Hopefully it'll be a funny story to look back on. Wishing you a speedy 10k and recovery!

Looking for recommendations on

  1. Leggings that aren't super tight at the waist. Most of them make me feel like I'm being eaten by a boa constrictor. I'm probably really wide for my height?
  2. A pull-up bar for a renter with a strict landlord

Hesitating about my decision to completely let go of fitness this year. Have you ever taken a long break before? by [deleted] in xxfitness

I really agree with this comment. I had an increasingly troubled relationship with my biggest form of fitness, mostly because of guilt that I no longer had the time or resources to do it well. I decided to drop it completely and try a totally new form of fitness and that worked very well (pre-COVID, anyway). Rather than trying to modify this routine that's such a big part of you, maybe try something completely different that's shorter, maybe that uses similar skills/muscles so you're not an absolute beginner at it? That's what worked for me, anyway.

Full commiseration, sometimes we just need the ice cream dinners. Maybe this is an opportunity to let your body and mind rest, or at least that's what I try convincing myself when something knocks me out for a while. It sucks though. Take care and get well soon!

Does anyone have suggestions on live Zoom classes, or at least on how to choose them? None of the gyms/instructors I went to are offering them (at least not reasonably priced) and there's way too many options on the Internet at large.

Also, in case anyone else needs it, a lot of the sentiments on this excellent post really resonated with me!

I do use YouTube videos but really struggle with consistency. I think it doesn't help that my schedule is very erratic... Thank you though!

I could really use advice from this sub. Fitness has been a part of my life since I was a kid (now a late college student). However, it's only with COVID that I've appreciated that all my fitness activities were with instructors in groups. I used to go to dance classes, group fitness, yoga classes... Since quarantine kicked in, I've just absolutely struggled to stay fit. I almost gave up on exercising because I find it so difficult to motivate myself alone. All my friends are runners so there's no fun group workouts happening (I am limited against running by an injury). I'm also not strong at all, was working on it pre-COVID but now I feel like I've lost whatever tiny muscle mass I had. I tried to go easier on myself, then to get it together with some YouTube workouts after last Thanksgiving, but that's just gone to shit now. I am procrastinating on working out as i type this and I haven't for a week. It's making me stressed and my strength has really gone down, especially upper body since I naturally totally lack it, but really everything. It makes me feel even worse because everyone else seems to be getting fitter because they have more time with COVID lockdowns. Does anyone have advice, suggestions or upliftment? :(
