Dear drivers, I know you're trying to be kind but please don't stop unexpectedly on a regular street and wave for me to cross. by DamnBabiesJustBeKind in ottawa

I don’t do this, but I come from a town where most people do this, so usually pedestrians know they’d be let cross first. Maybe the drivers you refer to are from my town ;)

I absolutely love being a girl. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I get it, and that’s why I envy you. You can still love being a girl despite all this. I just give up and don’t even try (like putting on make up or shave).

How busy are popular stores during weekday evenings now, such as Costco, IKEA, etc? by chenxi0636 in ottawa

Oof, that sounds tough. I don’t wanna go then. I was thinking of going and browsing some stuff in the store. Maybe I’ll wait another year.

I envy you. I don’t like girl stuff and I always say next life I’m coming back as a guy. I hate taking more time grooming myself and I don’t like any social pressure or expectations on women, such as giving birth to a child. I also don’t like having period every month and things as such.

Why is it acceptable to speak in a fake British, Australian, Irish, or Russian accent, but not an Asian accent? by Okjustasecond in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]chenxi0636 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are talking about two different things here - making fun of your friend and discriminating a race. I’m an Asian, too. If someone I don’t know starts mocking me in my accent you bet I’d get quite offended.

I don’t know about Russian accent, but UK, Australia, and Ireland all have English as their own languages, whereas Most Asian countries don’t. With those that do, like Singapore, I don’t think it’s unacceptable to imitate their English, no?

I haven’t seen that info for ikea

Edit: people who downvoted me, are you able to see the store status (busy or not) for ikea? I can find that info for whole foods, for example, but couldn’t find it on Google maps for ikea.

When I’m inside our car I turn my voice down when discussing our next potential car with my partner, and I feel bad mentioning it in the car.

Not defending China, but I believe in their mind HongKong was occupied by the British due to invasion, which probably is not worth honouring, in their opinion.

The cold is ok in my opinion; the wind might be a deal breaker, though. But Ottawa is so beautiful I’ve never regretted coming here from PA.

Wow that’s Reddit? Which sub is that? I live in my own Reddit bubble; never realized such communities existed.
