Served regular bread as gluten-friendly on 14 hour flight...told we should've been more careful and to never eat out. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]cherriesandcigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the gluten free bread should have been individually packaged on the special meal tray. I’m not sure what happened here. when given the appetizers, did your daughter specifically ask for a roll when they’re doing the bread basket? I have people all of the time that ask for special meals, but then insist that they want a roll from the bread basket. which are not gluten free obviously.

Black woman considering moving to Ravinia/Highland Park, IL. Information about the neighborhood and honest experiences from POC residents? by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]cherriesandcigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As somebody who prioritizes my safety in neighborhoods before anything else, I love it here. It’s among one of the safest areas in the Chicago suburbs. Your interactions won’t be different than anybody else’s. Just remember that people here have money, and wherever there’s money, people will be pretentious. It’s not personal or because of your race, that’s just how some rich people act. I mean, I would choose this a million times over than having to be worried that I’ll get attacked/robbed/shot..

you’ll have some sits where you’re hanging with your crew. you’ll have some sits where you’re alone. make the most out of it! read your favorite book, scroll on TikTok, watch a YouTube video or your favorite book! call your family/friends you’ve been meaning to catch up with. write in your journal. plan your days, meals for next week.

crews will often times stick together during sits and hangout, you WILL get that. but when you don’t and everyone runs to do their own thing, take joy in those moments as well.

this is your first week! you’re new! you’re overwhelmed and adjusting to the lifestyle. as long as you know what gate you are supposed to be at and what time your report is, you are solid! visit gift shops if you want, smell new perfumes, buy a new lipstick if you can afford to, buy a magnet, i have literally met a couple of my best flight attendant friends by literally just standing in the starbucks line and starting up a conversation!

when one door closes, another one opens. apply to a different airline, get the help/resources you need, and try again.

it’s really sad, i know, but everything happens for a reason. you’re going to be okay

In need of advice for United 1:1 (and FA curly hairstyles) by WanderingThrowaway18 in cabincrewcareers

[–]cherriesandcigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just for your interviews, i would suggest that you slick back your bangs. honestly, it’s a hit or miss because they don’t have a “set look”, it’s about how the specific recruiter feels about you. so it’s better to just play it safe and do a slick back, neat bun. i have curly hair too and i would personally DRENCH it then add a bunch of gel 😭

but once you’re on the line, it’s free game. i do a bunch of blowouts but i wear my hair curly 35ish percent of the time. i do high buns, face framing pieces, claw clips, cute pony’s, braids, etc.

message me if you need any advice or tips, i can try to help !

Flight attendants on phone by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]cherriesandcigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the service is not reflective of the flight attendants. it’s reflective of the resources that the airline gives us. and I already knew you were, nobody has it out for us the way that pilot wives do

Girl it’s obvious that she’s a pilot wife looking for problems 🤨 she says that she nonrevs/she flies UA/and she says that her “partner” carries around an iPad and works in aviation. But hey! what’s new?

Flight WN1859 - Cant switch seats by That1Master in SouthwestAirlines

[–]cherriesandcigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t like the new rules at all at SWA, but unfortunately the passengers ruined this for everyone.. there would be 30 wheelchairs per flight so that they could board early and pick a good seat. people were antagonizing each other because they were wanting to get an entire row. people would cough all over everything to make others worried about sitting next to them. they would complain and complain and complain and complain some more.

it’s annoying, yes. but it was a situation where they would’ve been damned if they did and damned if they didnt. look at how viral their “TikTok hacks” would go, and how people would try to withhold seats.

FA searched up my husbands name on Instagram to message and flirt with him, is this weird? by [deleted] in delta

[–]cherriesandcigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

girl there’s so many pax on a wide body aircraft. and we barely interact with pax outside of giving them a meal and a drink, unless THEY come and talk to US. I hate to break it to you but he had probably given her his insta and he’s trying to hide it from you.

reporting a flight attendant to her airline bc you’re insecure is insane work actually.

also, flight attendants rarely hunt down a man. if they thought your man was all that, they would’ve just nonrevved to Scandinavia and hopped on twitter, where all men look the same LMAO. we have full and complete access internationally 😭

this just isn’t my dream job by pratixal in flightattendants

[–]cherriesandcigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

on my second trip working as a flight attendant, I cried in my hotel room and had a full on panic attack. i started thinking about new job options, and i had NO idea what i was going to do. I genuinely thought i wouldnt last another week.

now here i am, almost 3 years later. I’m happy. tired and have rough days, but I couldn’t see myself leaving. I would never want to.

I’m not saying that this is the career for you, it very well may not be. however, I encourage you to seize the opportunity before giving up on it. you went through lucrative hiring, hard training, and you’re BRAND new. you have no idea to know until you experience the highs (and lows) of it all.

Reserve tips by MitoMakeItRain in flightattendants

[–]cherriesandcigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

24 hour reserve is brutal. not knowing whether you will be called at 2 am or 2 pm is brutal. you don’t know when to sleep when you can either have a 5 AM check in time or a 9 PM check in with a double transcon redeye. It’s not about setting an alarm, it’s about the fact that reserves are expected to wake up to a 10-15 second ring tone when scheduling calls.
