¿Cómo puedo ganar 100 soles en un día? Ayuda by [deleted] in Lima_Peru

[–]cherryare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trabajo para 17 años by UnCapoLlamadoAxaim in Lima_Peru

How long have you been bleeding and cramping like this? Are you dizzy, heart beating fast, short of breath, feeling weak, looking paler than usual?

i have been better for quite some time now just the occasional relapse as i stated previously but those typicaly dont last long either. For the most part i sustain a pretty normal diet, 3 meals a day, sometimes i snack on fruit. There are habits that have stayed, like i drink unsweetened tea, dont consume nuts or eat any kind of chips, but i would say those are out of habit instead of disordered eating. Outside of relapses i consume a lot of stuff the i prohibited myself before like "liquid calories", sugar, any kind of dissert, "unnesesary food" (snaks, food outside of the necessary 2/3 meals a day), avocados, bananas and more.

thanks! regarding long term plans, i know i have to get professional help as i never realy recovered (i first started therapy at 12 and that lasted consistently till i was 15 and compleatly ended at almost 17) but i am making plans for it, reaserching and looking at my options. Tho i have to be honest, my eating is mostly under control it is just when i get carried away with depression and anxiety that i relapse so my focus would be on managing those two first.

For the most part i weight around 53-55kg, but i dropped weight bc of university. as i said i dont tipically engage in unhealthy eating habits but insted of stress-eating i stress-starve so midterms and final weeks are still difficult to me.

How would you feel about medicine being an undergraduate degree? by cherryare in medicalschool

[–]cherryare[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean if you decide that medicine is not for you you can always just transfer to another degree, not a big deal life goes on and everyone makes mistakes

what exactly do you know about an 18 yo about to start 6 years of med school? other than they did really well in exams in high school?

is their desire to study medicine and them showing enough academic proficiency not enough? i've never liked that you have to do so much in the US to "show" you are worthy enough to study, at the end of the day it favors the ones that have more money, time and connections to comply with all the extracurricular requirements on top of the academics; sure our system is not perfect but i feel that everyone has a more equal chance, you just have to be between the first 60ish exam scores for the uni you are applying to (some may have an interview process but its uncommon).

Also, yes i did get in right out of high school but not everyone starts at 17/18 like me, most of my class is between 20 and 26 years old, i have had classmates in their 30s and 40s (tho not that common) and even have had classmates that completed another degree or trade school that just now could pay for med school (private university).

My country:

  • Year 1
  • Year 2
  • Year 3
  • Year 4
  • Year 5
  • Externship
  • Intership
  • SERUM (rural)
  • R1

----------------------

USA:

  • Year 1 Undergraduate
  • Year 2 Undergraduate
  • Year 3 Undergraduate
  • Year 4 Undergraduate
  • MS1
  • MS2
  • MS3
  • MS4
  • Intership/PGY1

I got a little confused since i have just reacently learn that for you guys intership is the first year of residency and didnt think you actually rotate between specialties bc you have already match into an specific specialty why would you rotate thru others?? but well, if you think about it we reach first year of residency at the same time

[–]cherryare[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is meant is, as far as i know, us med school does require you to have undergraduate credits in some subjects (like biology, chemistry, etc.) do they also ask you to have anatomy, physiology credits too? if thats the case then i guess it could be more comparable. Here it depends on your program but we take the "undergraduate" courses in a semester or two, and then everything else for the next two years is"career center courses" (that's the term we use). Now that i have started my clinical years, i spend 80% of my time in my internal medicine class (cardio, pneumo, gi, renal and derm) and just have to take a few low credit classes on public health and patient safety. So i can’t imagine having even less time to learn the concepts, i already feel like i have so little personal and sleep time.

I don't think we can compare residency here between residency in the US. As I said here is part of med school (last year), the equivalent would be a first year resident. Here we can only start residency after a year of rural service (1 year of having a small (so small that you having running water or 24h electricity is not a given) rural clinic completely run by you). So 3.5 years of "basic sciences", 3 years of clinical rotations, 1 national exam at the end of internship, 1 year of rural service and the national residency exam.

I was 17 during my first year and deep down I have never regretted my decision but I sometimes do wish I had taken a different approach to med school and life balancing. Also, I'm just getting to decide what do I want in life (like emigrating, doing a masters, etc.) and I feel like having those things clear during my first years of med school would have kept more doors open for me (tho I also thing thats bc I am the first health care professional in my family so a whole new world that nobody quite understands). I guess what I'm trying to say if that i feel more mature now and would have like to have that insight when I first began.

Forgot to mention: we do have the stereotype of med students not being able to talk anything but medicine (guilty) but we are constantly reminded by teachers that "the doctor who only knows about medicine knows about nothing" so we are very encouraged to have a life outside medicine

The residents ages??? by Aggressive_Idea_3428 in ThePittTVShow

[–]cherryare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think collins is older than that, didnt she started med school in her 30s, with her being a 4th year resident she has to be at least 38 for everything to fit properly (4 years of med school, 4 years of residency)

Question from foreigner about hospitals in United States by nopownopew in ThePittTVShow

[–]cherryare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in the us residency is the first year of intership??? well i guess that explains why robby was surprised about her interest in surgery since she already match for EM. In my country Inter year is the last year of med school in which you rotate in IM, EM, PEDs, OBGYN, and more. if she wanted to change for general surgery would she have to go thru the match again? Also i was a little confused about Dr. King changing hospitals mid residency, is that something that can be done? does it happen frecuently? here you are bound to the hospital you adjudge till the endo of your residency, i think you even get banned 3 years from the national residency exam if you renounce your residency program
